My lego ship...
It seems to have Spanish/Tribal theme to it. Maybe Kahuka's Revenge. That's just a quick thought. I've got it now, here's the story: There were these pirates that stole a Spanish ship. And as they were sailing away in their cool new ship they crashed into a shallow reaf and had to be stuck for a very long time with some islanders and used the islanders help to fix their ship (or the pirates took over the islander settlement and took what they wanted and made the islanders fix it). After the repairs were made the repaired vessel sails away with hope to get more treasure and live happily ever after.

Weigh Anchor
Note to Mister Phes: I hope the image is small enough for the forum. This is my first post of an image and my first New Topic. Hopefully I haven't broken any rules of etiquette for this forum. Just let me know. I'm trying to make a lego aparatus that raises and lowers large anchors that is similar to how they're done in real life. This is my first attempt and would like some input. At first I was thinking of using those helicopter pieces that were used for the Skull Eye Schooner, but it didn't have the kewlness effect I was going for. I've figured out how to make two of them (one for each anchor) to be placed on my top deck of my ship, I just want them to look more realistic. It took forever to figure out how to make something round with six or eight sticks or poles protruding out of the sides evenly spaced. I took the other one apart and "posed" it in such a way so that everyone can see how it's built. Having this anchoring assembly four studs wide is about the right fit for my frigate that i'm building, seeing how the hull is about 140 studs long and 34 studs wide. I hope no one gets too offended that I mixed in one light bley 4 stud wide satelite dish with my classic gray. :-P

Warship Excalibur under construction
http://media.peeron.com/brickjournal/brickjournal3.pdf It's about a ship made by Richie Dulin called "The Miserable". It uses standard lego hull mid-sections, but they have been cut in the middle to make the ship wider. I'm considering this "technique" for my future ship. i saw what Richie had done and his ship looks great, however i personally don't ever want to put a hacksaw to my hull pieces. I got a little list together from mocpages.com on some of the best large mocs i've seen of pirate ships and mine. i'd much rather use bricks than hacking away on my precious hull pieces :P http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/21250 this web site uses 3x3 angled bricks, this is my favorite mega pirate moc online right now http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/23693 this is my web site, i used a similar way to build my bow as the first website i listed. i used the black 3x3 angled bricks as much as i could cause it's harder to see the brick lines with black than any other color. http://www.mocpages.com//content_block.php/5451 this web site uses mainly plates for the hull, i don't like it much but it gives you an idea as to what it takes to make a plated hull (tried to fix da links)

How much are you spending on pirate Lego
right now i'm only spending about $50-$100 per year on lego pirate. I'm pretty content with the amount of lego pirate sets i have right now. What i'm really focused on is trying to buy as many bricks as possible with as little money possible. For instance, right after christmas when all the sets are on sale i'll probably be spending easily $100 on legos at wal-mart and toys-r-us. It's usually been about $10-$75 per month on just lego sets. I'm a full time college student, so i can't afford much right now. Once lego decides to start making a pirate them again, my spending will easily increase

About those troops....
Hmm. Interesting, then i guess anybody can do anything they want with the blue coats and red coats and mix them up. I had some qualms with ppl mixing them up, but not any more. In my little circle of lego land, we'll probably continue to call the blue flag with four "Fleur De Lis"s french

About those troops....
i think of the blue coats as french mainly for the french type symbols on their flags. you've got to admit, all the flags with the blue-coat sets have that french symbol thingy on them. granted, i have no qualms with mixing up the uniforms to distinguish higher or lower ranks on the british side or may even the french side (if i found out the french indeed have some predominately red uniforms).

Warship Excalibur under construction
Captain Bonapart, it would seem that you may need to think "outside the hull" and make your own hulls as wide and long as you like on longer ships. A frigate, in my opinion, needs to be wider than the standard hull pieces. Just food for thought.

Custom Cannons
i've got a few attempts at MOC cannons myself. my favorite one's are the ones where i utilize my three black barrels (not painted they really came black) and make a 10 stud long cannon that fires black lego heads. These cannons would probably be considered 32 pounders. And i think they're as large as they can get for a broadside long gun These aren't too big to fit on my frigate back to back and they're going to be placed at the bow on the gun deck. My MOC cannons: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/23176 After seeing all these cannons in this forum i think that i could make better cannon mocs in the future. Thanx guys.

The Bomb Ketch Bloviator
I think that is a good moc using that particular hull. its got a good color scheme also. i enjoy the creativity in bow of the ship with the sloped bricks. i have never seen that done before. i'll have to refer to this ship for my bomb ketch after i'm done with my frigate. The only thing i don't like are the cannons. i just think they're too small for bombing the snot out of a fort or a small settlement. TTFN

Favourite Imperial Faction!
i picked blue-coats cause theyre what i have the most of right now. i enjoy picking the side (i.e. the french) that is out gunned by the british and then kick their butt with my superior mocs :capn:
