mahjqa replied to Nofer89's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFiddlesticks. Found it. Next goals: £100.000 Stair top design of the brick (can we get a look of what the non-stairtop design looks like?) £140.000 a profile designer to create remote control profiles £160.000 chiptuning features I would really like that profile designer. Hey, SB guys; now that the initial funding has come together, putting the stretch goals (using that exact term) on top of the kickstarter page should be a priority. Those are some really worthwhile features.- SBrick General Discussion
mahjqa replied to Nofer89's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSo, what are the stretch goals on this baby? I halfway remember something about an interface designer, but the kickstarter page doesn't seem to mention what happens when more money is raised.- SBrick General Discussion

mahjqa replied to mahjqa's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThanks to all of you for your great replies, makes it all that much sweeter :) Maybe soon, maybe later. This is supposed to be a proof of concept. Now that I figured it that it indeed can be done, the next step would be to make it even smaller and better. One L motor. One XL motor. That's all. None taken. I tried to go with a brickbuilt exterior (instead of just plates), but that would have meant at least a kilo more bricks. Would've hurt performance, you see. That's really awesome to hear :D Finding the right music can be pretty tough and time-consuming, but really finishes the job. Won't they have seen it on the frontpage already? Also, I'm not sure if the rules allow posting the same creation on multiple forums.- Gradior

mahjqa replied to Hrafn's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe process is remarkably similar to this: threepanelsoul link Identify the hardest part. Start with that.- Robust Building Techniques
Like everthing else, builds are a tradeoff. Simplicity, low weight and good looks usually go at expense of one another. A robust solution may not look very nice, or work very well. A complex solution may be flimsy. The lime car VMLN8R posted had a single priority: it had to work. It was built for a race at a meeting, so it could absolutely NOT be allowed to fail. So I sacrificed: - Complexity: I replaced the differential with two 12-tooth gears - Functionality: no differential usually means that steering won't work as well. Luckily, the race was held on a very slippery floor, so the diff wouldn't have made a difference in that case. - Looks: I limited the exterior to technic panels and flexible axles. I only used studded elements where they couldn't be knocked off easily, or where it wouldn't matter if they did. Also, I used big bumpers to protect the front wheels. This limited my design options somewhat. So.... it's all about priorities.- Pen-Dragon Mechanical Fractal-Drawing Device

Cost. Right now, they've got the stuff to make the kind of cars that work well. They've JUST overhauled the suspension parts. What you're looking for are a good load of very complicated to produce parts (4 to 6 molds per part), along with storage and so on. That YOU want. Plus, I'm figuring, about 50 vocal AFOLs. Hell, let's make it 200 AFOLs. And on the other side: the people who couldn't care less. How many hundreds of millions of kids were there again? How often does Lego release supercars again? Even including offroaders, I'm counting only six sets the last ten years. I want these as much as you do, but the chance of us getting them is not, if you'll pardon the word, realistic.- How about more 'Realistic' Technic Models?
Let's look at the priorities placed on an official Lego model, most important at the top: -Kids should be able to build it -The price shouldn't be too high -The model should be recogniseable and attractive -The functions should be fun to play with First things first, Lego is a toy. As such, things like "fun to play with" will always be a priority over realism. Sure, it's possible to make (for example) more realistic suspension setups in cars. As a drawback, this means the model would: -be a lot harder to build -require more parts, making it more expensive -require new specialised parts, making it more expensive All of this for a slight change in geometry that most kids won't see, understand or appreciate.- New part on Lego Education site?
