You can try to remove the central differential and you´ll have a 4x4.

I did this for centered and make symetrical the suspension. I used this brick (the Technic, Steering Arm 5.5 x 2 with Towball Socket Rounded, Chamfered) for it with some more normal pieces and a litle modification.

The Unimog is the largest but it is very simple, 8043 or 8258 are the best options. The 8258 may be the best choice for the wheels, sorry for my googlenglish....

My failed attempt, 2 steering axles and 2 pneumatic valves for control the 2 gears gearbox or the back or front pto. The moc is too heavy for the rc motor but it works on first gear...
