  1. Some of you might remember me winning Challenge 2 for Avalonia with my embassy. And some might even remember me promising to take adequate pictures of it. It took me quite a while - almost a year and a half - but I can finally present you my embassy in all its glory in decent pictures. You'll also find some behind the scenes pictures in here, as many of you asked me how I built for example the roof (all pictures link to flickr with higher resolution). The old thread can be found here. Some pictures of the details: 1. The front of the upper story. 2. The entrance and the ground floor. 3. The side of the roof and its bay. 4. A second view of the roof. The construction of the roof is fairly simple. The look with the cheese slopes is achieved by placing 2x4 plates (or any plate that is 2 wide) on another 2x4 plate with an offset of 1 stud. Then you use an abundance of 1x1 cheese slopes to cover these. After the whole surface is covered, we use this thing upside down and it will look like this: In order to achieve this angle I used quite an unusual technique: The roof itself just sits in there and is not connected to the house itself. It got me a very nice angle by using the 1x2x3 inverted slopes as a 'frame': A view from the back (yes, I only built half of it, you got me ): To make things not too easy, I also included the bay with the window in the roof. In this case, I achieved the angle by using hinges to which I connected the cheese slope surface. I left a hole in the big roof so that I could place the bay in it. Fairly easy I guess. I'm actually going to tear it down finally but I'm planning to build a 'version 2.0' for my city layout. There are some parts that I want to improve so lets see where I will end with that. If you have any suggestions, feel free! I hope I was able to give you some insight in how to create a cheese slope. The explanation is fairly simple so if you have any questions regarding this, feel free to contact me. Currently I'm working on a roof for a round tower built from cheese slopes and it is looking good - stay tuned! Finally: Yes, this building is almost one and a half years old but I would still like to get comments and more importantly critique. If you have anything to add, do not hesitate to do so! Regards!
  2. Thank you! That was exactly my impression. Just wasn't sure if there would be a problem showing the exact same moc again. I already uploaded it to flickr so I guess I'll get around posting it tomorrow or so.
  3. Lets say I finally dug out my embassy from Challenge 2 and got around taking the decent pictures I promised last year. Where would I post them? In the old topic, bumping it to the first page or in a new topic with a link to the old one?

Somebody is stealing my tree technique! (Just kidding - I just have to finally get around building and posting the moc that uses these trees! ) Nice little vignette, I very much like the angles. Simple but effective!
  5. I just dug up the box where I put in all my Challenge 3 stuff when I had to depart to Italy in a mad rush. I already made some changes and improvements Expect something the next days!
  6. Isn't mine probably the hardest to make with all the rare parts in it? (Do I still count as active? ) I'll be active anyway starting next week!
  7. I just wanted to thank the organizers for this wonderful event but theres also a big thank you to all of the eventees. It was great to get to know all of you, you're a bunch of such special people! I hope that everybody got (or is getting) home safely and has a good journey. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you again sometime, for some of you that is going to be Skaerbaek which I'm looking forward to a lot, for others its going to be the next EB event which I will attend for sure, if I'm allowed to I also have to send kind regards from my mom as I gave all the 2x4 bricks to her, she was very grateful to have them - and she even wants to come along for next years event. Thank you also for all the coupons you gave me, I somehow have the bad feeling (or is it good? ) that I will need and use all of them.. If any of you still have some of them that you won't need, I happily take them. Maybe some of you also want the collectable brick that is coming out in November. If you want me to get that for you and ship it that would be no problem. I just came back from Günzburg once again as I completely emptied the Fabrik of anything that was from the model builder department - if anyone wants something, shoot me a PM. Also if you ever need something that the Fabrik in the Legoland could have, shoot me a PM and I'll try my best to get hold of it. Thats the least I can do! I'm trying to update the Brickbuildr PaB inventory the next weeks so you should be able to tell whats there from then on by using the site. I would love the stay in contact with all of you, so feel free to send my a friend request or even more!
  8. Sounds like a fun challenge! I will try to enter, already have a nice and funny idea!
  9. Doesn't sound too bad, at least we are lucky in the south not to have the floods. I'll be joining the socializing between 5 and 6, will make a short trip to the Legoland before and join you afterwards. And: No beer for me, I have to drive
  10. Oh, what a lucky expensive day Thank you! That was probably the perfect start into an expensive week
  11. Interested!
  12. Are you hanging out in the Kirchbauernhof on Wednesday evening or what are you planning? I was going to join you not until Thursday but as its just 45min of driving from where I live I'm kind of tempted. Let me know what you're doing!
  13. Was thinking to include a harbor anyway. Dunno where you live but I'm driving from Stuttgart the day before so if your place is somewhere along the way we surely could arrange something. I'll message you once I have a definite plan what I'm doing.
  14. Yay! My list: I will bring: Cwetco: 30201 - 6,50€ (?) Dfenz: 30201 - 6,50€ Peppermint_M: Oola Scubacarrot: Series 8 Actor 2x Eiker86: 30201 I expect to get: Holodoc: 7573 - 50€ Peppermint_M: 2 CMF Encyclopedia - ~14€ Did I forget something?
  15. Its the 2nd Steinewahn in Berlin on 17th and 18th of August. There is no specific GoH layout planned I'm aware of - but we surely could stitch something together if enough people would contribute something. The moc registration closes 1st of July. I chose my city layout because of the fact that there were so many things that I wanted to build for GoH so I'm bringing them together in one large layout, depicting the town of my character. I guess its killing two birds with one stone. Lets just hope that my Lugbulk order arrives in time...!
  16. Very nice entry, Captain! I still don't like the usage of my precious cheese slopes on the sides of your roofs but I will turn a blind eye on that - again Apart from that The Lion's Den is stunning. Love the discolored roof and walls and the usage of the judge's hammer as decorations! Nice door arch as well. Your Kaliphinian tower is just awesome, insane and creative color usage, it is brilliant how all the green and tan goes together. I don't like the orange building next to it too much as its too colorful but the scene is just lovely. Good luck!

Very nice! Many details that I love, starting with all the clutter and the furniture in the interior (even though I'm against the usage of third party stuff, but still). Using the halfpipe pieces as a tent is brilliant, I just love the celebration scene with all the different things going on! I just think that your second build is a little below the average of your two other scenes but that could also be just because of the photography. Good luck with the judges!
  18. I guess that one is a huge understatement, isn't it? Nevertheless I'm going to honor that and your builds by dedicating time to a detailed comment. Marecroft Manor 'From a rocky ledge..' - what a beautiful start into this Challenge 6 entry with this manor. In my opinion this one is your best tudor style house / castle and the fact that it is build 'completely' in light grey makes it even better as the various textures make it still enjoyable. The steps on the right are just lovely. There are some minor things I don't like: In my opinion there should be more space on the right at the gate but I don't know the Challenge limitations if there were any. Furthermore mixing in the old dark gray bits in the rock work doesn't really work for me. Finally the water under the building appears to be too bright. (I had a look in flickr for more details) Marecroft’s Meeting Room Looks a bit too packed but the desk is done very nicely. I also like the tan bits not too much but the mosaic with olive, sand and dark green is very nice. Forest Watchtower of Circardia Simple and effective. I like the unusual top. The Forge Must be the first moc that uses the supports from the orc forge in a good way. The brick built columns complement the thing nicely. Looks very busy, I like it. Zakon's Secret Stash Compared to the original one you are are missing far too many mushrooms Nevertheless a lovely build with much character, very nice hut. Love the usage of the transclear dish from the TIE fighters as a mushroom! Hanging the lamp on one of the whips is another lovely detail. Siege of Cedrica To be honest, I like this one least. It is too busy and yet too empty. The walls are done in a nice style, I especially like the gate but everything in front of it looks kind of out of place. The rolling tower is nice, yes, but I guess there should be more soldiers to make it believable. I also don't like the editing on the picture with the dragon, too rough. Rellik's Last Patrol & Victor's Throne Very nice interior, wonderful flooring. For some strange reason I love the black gate as simple as it is. Love the statues on the outside. Same for the 'inside": Nice layout, even though I don't like the hand mosaic too much but I think that is due to the square shape the black background has. The different pieces of furniture are lovely! Civil War? Loved your story, Z, all along. But the best part has to be the open ending with the different factions. It is a very nice idea for the second chapter of GOH though I have no idea what I would do as I didn't take part in it for such a long time. Evilonia is very tempting but there are so many things I would like to do in Avalonia. Lets see what Chapter 2 brings and which Challenge 6 entry will write history. Awesome entry as usual, Z. I don't want to know where you're taking your inspiration from but: Hide it.
  19. I'm back for sure but at the same time I have to add that this will be only till September as I have to go abroad again for my second year of studies.
  20. You guys produced awesome stuff for Challenge 6! I will go through them in the next days and look at them in detail! I'm on vacation right now but there should be time for it! Next Monday I'll be back home from a year of studying abroad. I was home for two weeks a month ago where I sorted all my bricks so it is back to building! So much stuff to finish for Guilds of Historica but most importantly a layout for an exhibition in Berlin, Germany with a lot of Avalonian influence. 144x144 studs, filled with a bustling city layout and soo many cheese slopes you won't be able to count. I will start a new thread for this project to keep you posted about my progress with that as there will be different buildings and scenes that need to get built. I also might come back to my left builds from last year but I won't promise anything yet as my job tends to have assignments on a very short notice. Anyway, it's good to be back! If you have suggestions for my layout regarding buildings, scenery or anything else, feel free. I'm still planning How's the thing with Historica now? Whats happening now that Challenge 6 is done?
  21. And finally I'm looking for some odd things, too. Any number appreciated, nobody can fulfill the needs for my Underwater-Steampunk-Monorail-project.. 1. 47299 in Pearl Gold or Flat Dark Gold 2. x345 in Pearl Gold Also I'm looking for Mr. Grumpy: Davy Jones. Two or more. I managed to get some of those discounted Orc Forges that Dfenz mentioned if someone's still interested. (No worries, David, I'm on the other side of this island ) Maybe someone can help me out. Thanks!
  22. Sure thing. Dealing at the event suits me just fine. I can help you with that, bought a bunch of sealed boxes a week ago. Means I have to find one in there first Just one?
  23. I can help you with that one, got a spare one.
  24. Sent you a PM! Thanks.
  25. You are right indeed. I just corrected it. Yes, I'd be interested, shoot me a message once you checked what you have. Not sure yet what I'm interested in but a spartan sounds always good, no? ;) (Series 1&2 feels like ages ago, have to check what was in them..)
