Han's dump truck with PF motors
designer-han replied to wimpie3's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI did read this..... And a PF with pneumatic pump is on my wish list to build.... I'm sure its possible now with the new steering gear racks (the dump truck 10x8 does not have them) which will save space, the mini LA's for pulling the third axle, a pneumatic pump to control the dump bed and the servo motor for steering. Only thing to figure out is where the XL motor has to be placed as the pneumatic cylinders for dumping are 'in the way' for placing a XL motor closely to both rear axles for powering them with a short drivetrain.

Stone Trailer Truck
designer-han replied to squizz's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingA happy new year to all of you ! Finally the whole Stone Trailer finished within MLcad so that I can play with other color combinations. For those intending to buy many 5x11 panels in BLUE... See 2 examples of other colors.

Stone Trailer Truck
designer-han replied to squizz's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling@Nychase: Sorry for driving up the prices on Bricklink, this was never my intention... I recognize the rare parts, I guess - given my Bricklink orders - I spend about ~ 150 € on lime and orange parts. O: I did order a lot of green recently by Paul's wife as well.... but just to build the 42008, so do not expect a new MOC with these colors. However,... Regarding the color scheme. The first try-out was based on red/gray (see picture) just to comply to 12 necessary panels of the trailer which I had already in stock (Unimog!) But, these colors do not really have the catch. Then considered black panels..... very dark looking... then white... red even?!.... So, I'm curious were one will come-up with. Yellow? @gevans12: Yes, it's the same cab as both the Dump Truck 10x4 and Lowboy trailer. Only different beams are used because orange and lime are not available in every size. And added a 4 unit spotlight on top instead of 3. @ Nazgarot: No suspension is used.

Stone Trailer Truck
designer-han replied to squizz's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI don't mind of course :-)) I'm curious about the replies on the color combination. To be honest, I wanted something total different.... But had to get used to it as well for a couple of days. But it fits nice with the Alien Squidman color ;-) Your not the only one I noticed, it has nothing to do with overload but seams with traffic routing to USA. I raised a ticket by my ISP.

There is a better really big mobile crane than 42009
designer-han replied to Kumbbl's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAt that time the original 8421 wheels were not available as mlcad part. So initially I used the 8868 wheels. And I never corrected the mlcad close up pictures.... ;-)

Release Date Question for Servo, L-Motor & V2 IR
designer-han replied to 750ACE's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingMOC is ready. Need time and good weather for photo video shoot. Its a truck with rolloader crane trailer to load/unload duplo bricks on pallets, whereof the servo is used for steering the rear axle of the trailer. Sorry for off topic. ;-)

Release Date Question for Servo, L-Motor & V2 IR
designer-han replied to 750ACE's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFunny to read the conversation. Yes, its not professional to postpone the release date. But starting to bug customer support does not help, those guys/girls can not change the release schedule. Even mentioned names of customer service employees is not fair. They can not change releases.... Maybe they will pass it to mgmt, but every day you got another employee. So if this will help?? And honestly, I dont recognize the real issue, unless people want to buy 5+ servo motors.... So, if you need them so desperate, buy on bricklink. Otherwise, patience will save your energy... Or better, use the energy to build with LEGO... :-) Maybe to add some turmoil, my next MOC uses 3 servos . Just kidding.... Its just 1 ;-)

Lego Technic 2013 sets & info
designer-han replied to captainmib's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHaving the boom extraction and cable drum controlled at the same time is quite easy IMO. Just ad an additional lever in the gearbox. According to this picture the functions are separated (bottom gear and top gear box). http://www.flickr.com/photos/0937/8969722650/sizes/o/in/set-72157633966592151/

Lego Technic 2013 sets & info
designer-han replied to captainmib's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI intend to agree if there was just one chassis version. But it seams that there are 2 versions of the chassis as well. The final version can not hold double 1x11 panels....

Lego Technic 2013 sets & info
designer-han replied to captainmib's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingActually, for comparison this link gives a better view on the 'previous' boom. http://smashing-bricks.com/2013/02/11/new-york-toy-fair-2013-lego-technic/ See of course the 42009 photo..... And even the double 1x11 panel grey is a much better fit... Even wonder why this reconsidered. Maybe because the crane turret did not turn smooth over the surface of the 1x11 panel?

Lego Technic 2013 sets & info
designer-han replied to captainmib's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThanks for sharing the review and the pictures. I really wonder why TLC did not choose for the other version of the telescopic boom that we saw on early pictures. It appears that in that version the second section of the boom has 7 gear racks 1x4 instead of 2x5 parallel in the final version. Eg, it seams that in the other version the 2nd and 3rd section could each extend 6-7 studs more... As well the looks of the retracted booms is much better, eg as mentioned the final versions seams a little mis folded, and leaves clearly a lot of unused space between the end of the 2nd section and bottom of the first second. Very curious why TLC decided to do so.... Maybe the boom would become to heavy to lift when one first extended all sections?? And to avoid the internal clutch of the LAs to be addressed??

Lego Technic 2h 2013
designer-han replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSeams indeed an improved version of 42009. Interesting to see if the T-beam 3x3 will make it into a yellow version....

[POLL] What would you Pay for Instructions?
designer-han replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingInteresting to see on Nico's page that 27% consider 'free donations'. Can hardly believe this will turn out in reality, because my MOC's are downloaded in total > 10.000 times.... and the number of free donations within 2 years are less then 15 (whereof some people donate twice! So actually ~ 12 unique ones)... with a total of € 245. It will just cover my website hosting So, I assume that more then 99% of the downloads are just for 'want to have it', rather then 'I want to build the MOC'. This makes me consider to change my policy for 'free downloads', because I reach my download capacity at my hosting vendor frequently and don't want to invest again in another upgrade. Options are: store the BI's elsewhere on the web. Or ask just as small amounth of money for those who really want to make the MOC. Still I think everyone has to decide if they want to pay for MOC's yes/no.... I don't have an opinion about that.

Lego Technic 2h 2013
designer-han replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingStill interesting to know how TLC mounted the LA's to the boom. Seams that there are 2 different cranes at least shown in all pictures till now. Just compare the mounting of the LA's in http://www.hobbymedia.it/42248/lego-technic-mobile-crane-mk-ii-42009-e-service-truck-42008-toy-fair-2013 See in the last link the 4th picture after the vid.

Lego Technic 2h 2013
designer-han replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingInteresting discussions the last couple of pages...... Although I do understand both angles in the LA and pneumatics discussion, we have to bare in mind that TLC first sets functional requirements before selection solutions for each model. Nothing different from the real world btw. Which means that the functinal requirement is 'we want a to have a boom that does not retract automatically within 15 minutes due to the weight'.... the solution will be LA's in this case. Same methodology is applied to all my MOCs. The dumptruck had to have pneumatics, otherwise it was never able to dump a full load. Crunching gears all over the place with LA's. For the Artic Hauler LA's came into play for steering, no pneumatics. The groomer should have had pneumatics for the tiller and blade, but due to the functional requirement 'full RC' and no space for a compressor it ended up with wormwheels and gears to lift them..... So, its all about requirements, compromises and for TLC to keep the model 'reasonable priced'. I understand the view Allanp has and agree with most parts., I know parents who dislike the sky high price of the flagship models and explore other options with the same functionality. If their kids are really onto Lego and like the building part.... then it is considered. Back to topic 42009. I'm not convinced yet that the crane will be a successor of 8421. Yes, its bigger, but not different from functions except the outriggers. And what I dislike in the 42009 is the rearside of the superstructure. It would have been nice if the battery box was hidden (or a had a yellow battery box). And the fact that the LA's point downwards in rest (see my previous post) is not very nice as well.

Lego Technic 2h 2013
designer-han replied to sama's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingBoth sets looks excellent, whereof the Service Truck has my preference. Medium set with packed functions and new colors with cool looks. Is really an out of the box approach of TLC. It has an automated pneumatic pump, the vid audio noice makes the same clicking sound that the unimog makes to compress the air. But, did anyone noticed from the vid that the LA's of the crane point 'downwards' in rest? Seams not really logical to me, would mean a lot of stress in the first moment to lift the boom. And I agree with previous posts that the chassis of the crane would remain enough space to motorize it. Or should I stretch it directly to 14 wheels this time ? ;-) Btw, I think TLC avoids the superstructure to slew by gearings on purpose. Just to prevent damage to the gears by kids who accidentally pushes the boom for the superstructure to slew. I lost many 24th gears of the Lift Truck 8071 and the Cherry Picker because kids pushed the boom downwards to fold. Hmmm, these kids were about ~ 5 years old... Maybe that was the problem. :-)

LDraw models of new PF motors
Again, many thanks. I notice that you already finished the patterns when I logged on to Eurobricks... after scanning the alien. Now it's my turn, finishing my latest MOC and starting BI's.

LDraw models of new PF motors
TOP ! Must have missed it while searching the Ldraw directories. Now just for the last part in Ldraw: the Minifig Head Alien Squidman with Tongue and Black Eyes, Black Lines Pattern (Part 85947px3). Regarding the MOC: Just a description: Pacton stenentrailer met Kennis kraan (Truck with trailer with moving crane, search on brands Pacton Floor C-line and Kennis Cranes). Expected H2-2013, BI's Q3-2013 maybe.... there are still 24hrs in a day, I do need more

LDraw models of new PF motors
Hi Philo, Just saw this tread today. I'm almost done with my recent MOC, and therefore I do need the PF servo motor in Ldraw. So, THANKS a lot for designing this one! But - if you allow me - I did use the battery box 8887 (with speed control) in the MOC as well. Do you have plans to design this one as well in Ldraw ? If not, then I have to use the cover of the 64228.........

Conchas' Lego Technic Competition Entry, "The Dunechaser"
designer-han replied to DLuders's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingVery impressive entry! Really like the smooth looks and the colors used (including a 1/2 bush blue at the wheel cover?). Nice to see how you were able to balance the number of parts (as low as possible) versus the functions and details. Must be possible for TLG to produce this model in their targeting price range for a limited edition. Got my vote! Ps. Now it's my turn..... Instructions please.... :-))))

Creating instructions in Ldraw
designer-han replied to Erik Leppen's post in a topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects@Erik I copy/paste all the png files generated by lpub/povray into MS powerpoint. There you can define templates with general information you want to mentioned on every slide. Pictures, text, etc can be added. Then I generate a pdf with Adobe acrobat pro. Until two years ago, this was the only pdf generator witout haing white margins around a slide, or marketing notes as footer. @all Btw. Did anyone noticed that the Official building instructions are sometimes shown incomplete on apple's ebooks Apps (and others) on iPad? For instance, the BI for the helicopter is incomplete (no pictures are shown, but only partlist box per step, arrows for explanations, background color are shown). Same goes for the crawler BIs. But the tractor is fine. I noticed this first with the B model of the logging loader 9397. Maybe TLC just did not merge all the layers within a slide... And ipad ebooks can not deal with that.. Will upload picture when my windows pc is on... Can not add the photo from my iPad directly.... Something to improve for Eurobricks forum functionalities..;-)

Lego Cuusoo
designer-han replied to Crtlego's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWell, I decide to give it a try on Cuusoo with the Dump Truck. I doubt if I will ever reach the 10.000 votes, especially because Technic is in the minority of interest of a broader audience. At the other hand, I calculated the downloads of my building instructions based on my website stats which is > 10.000. So, if all these people vote.... it should be possible

9397 Technic Logging Truck
designer-han replied to paul_delahaye's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAs many of you already stated; this set should have double diffs and twin wheels. Couple of examples are out here, but it's a challenge to stick to the original width of the wheels. Seams that Blakbird is close, but I'm not sure (seams 1/2 bush too width a both sides). Nevertheless, this design has the same width as the original model. To lock the wheels/axles proberly, I used the 5.5 L axles. The outer wheels are connected with Pin Double with Axle Hole (32138) to the inner wheels. Don't have this set; but I'm awaiting the new parts from LEGO Direct to rebuild this one with all the spare bricks I have. So, don't blame me if it does not fit... Btw I added a towbar, for a logging trailer in the future.

Need your help: Price indication for building my MOCs...
As your are aware I developed the last years some MOC's which seams to be interesting enough to rebuild by other AFOLS (for themselves or for their kids). I got over time many questions about: 'what does it cost to build your MOC xyz). Of course this is depending on your own collection of LEGO and if you are willing to mix sets and MOC's. I know that some of you did rebuild my models; hopefully you can inform me with: 1) Price for ordering parts. 2) Percentage of these ordered parts compared to the total parts needed for the model (example: 30% parts ordered for $100) I know that this is not as accurate (pneumatic is more expensive then pins, so depends again on what you had to order)... but it gives me an average price if I have enough responses. If you are not willing to share your price on this forum, drop me an email on my site. Model price questions are: Dumptruck 10x4 Drawbar trailer Truck8x4 with lowloader Articulated Hauler Thanks in advance!
