  1. As the set was designed by Lee Magpili, who worked for many years in MINDSTORMS, that can't be a coincidence. Always good to see some MINDSTORMS love!
  2. Most likely it's for fanservice: to give us more of this new part. A similar thing happened when teal returned: it was commonly present in pieces buried inside sets, for which colour didn't affect the final result.
  3. The motor that comes in SPIKE Essential is quite small, but given that that set is expensive and uncommon, its prices on BL are outrageous. Hopefully future Technic sets adopt it (like they did with the L and XL angular motors), to bring availability up and prices down.
  4. It cannot be a coincidence that, from a Mack garbage truck A-model you created a Mack container truck B-model, to go with the Mack garbage truck B-model that you created from a Mack container truck A-model. Well played, good sir, well played.
  5. I'm not knowledgeable enough about USB ports; is it enough to replace the MicroUSB plug with a USB-C one (and change the case moulding around it accordingly), or are there electrical differences?
  6. Technically I don't see why not, but in practice it'd require juggling more license partners, and that might not be worth the trouble.
  7. In some cases, functionality is lost when converting from PU into PF. An example is the Liebherr excavator's app-based reverse kinematics, which lets you tell it where to put the shovel and it figures out the necessary joint angles to do it.
  8. That's not saying much, because I don't think there are any other witches here.
  9. Agreed. But personally, I'd be happy enough with only 4 ports, as long as there was a physical controller for it (similar to those CaDa and MK systems). However, if it has a USB port and a battery, I fear that, when the battery reaches its end-of-life, so will the hub. Although there's always the possibility of third-parties stepping in, it's always harder for the consumer than fan-made replacements for discontinued software, and the precedent of (AFAIK) no unofficial alternatives to the SPIKE battery further worries me.
  10. If I'm not mistaken, the Liebherr crane was supposed to be 2022's flagship but was delayed to 2023.
  11. I don't care much about which supercar model or colour is chosen (just don't repeat the previous cars' models/colours, please), but instead hope to see a evolution in features: we're yet to see the return of raising suspension (since 8297) and four-wheel steering (since 8880), for example. I think it's also safe to assume that the gearbox will be new, using the elements introduced in the Yamaha bike.
  12. Assuming that the new material of the 5L link is the same as of the 7L link, I hope they share the same enhanced traction on smooth surfaces, but fear they share the same ease of easily disconnecting.
  13. Hopefully the sound brick in the Sorting Hat can connect to other LEGO electronics?
  14. How is the traction with the new material, compared to the old one?
  15. That's what she said. (sorry, I couldn't resist )
  16. If so, I can already hear fans groaning about inflating the part count just to get to that number.
  17. Of the fifty shades of blue of LEGO, I think dark azure is the most "electric" of all.
  18. Despite AA/AAA's clunkiness, I prefer them any day over proprietary LiPo. Unlike mobile apps, which can have workarounds, once a proprietary battery dies and is no longer supported, it's almost impossible to have it working again without some electrical/soldering skills.
  19. That would provide even more power and eliminate long drivetrains, but in my case can't be done because I want to use a single 4-port Technic hub, and the motor ports will already be taken by 2 for propulsion, 1 for steering and 1 for gear shifting.
  20. Thanks! I now see how beneficial the H-drive is, and with the programmability of PU hubs it should be possible to implement torque vectoring and thus eliminate the need for differentials while still preventing skidding during curves..
  21. I don't think the Technic team would willingly limit themselves by ruling X periodicity to launch model type Y, but rather more "What should the next sets be? Y'know, it's been a while since we've done something like Y, maybe it'd be cool to do it".
  22. I know they're not the same, but 42082 Big Red was released in the meanwhile, and if TLG released another mobile crane flagship, you can bet someone somewhere would moan that they keep repeating the same stuff, lost their creativity, are lazy, and other usual fan ramblings.
  23. I was googling for ideas to draw inspiration on for a hybrid sand runner/crawler (especially on ideas for a symmetrical 6-wheel chassis with pendular axles), and I'm surprised that only now I discovered this treasure trove. Great work, the thread really should be pinned! It's unfortunate that, as of this writing, all the images are broken, but the text is still very useful and informative.
  24. What functions would a Technic ISS have that would be impractical to do in a System-type (City/Icons/Friends/other) set?
