  1. You did a great job, the thing you will soon learn, even when you think you have finished you will see something else you will want to change. Thats the beauty of Lego right?!?
  2. The best way I found is get a front and side picture of the train you want to model. Merge them together in MS publisher or MS powerpoint. Make sure they are the same height. Use this picture in the scaler. (you will need to upload it to a photo hosting service. Or you could search Google for pictures on line like below.

Are you using Nickel silver or Aluminum?
  4. Hi Ed, I use a great scaling tool from Sariel, http://scaler.sariel.pl Welcome to the world of 8 wide.

How does the O gauge work out? was the rail size good enough?
  6. Love the photos of the wonderful layout. How much space does it need for those curves?
  7. Have a look at the Aluminum extruded rail. its $3.50 per 6ft length. I think a box of 96ft is only $48, that's not to bad a price. http://www.switchcrafters.com/ez-catalog/X381875/14
  8. Hi Commander Wolf, Scaling is the most challenging with Lego due to its rigid stud system, However, this makes for a more fun and challenging hobby. Each coach is 64+ studs long, Engines are 51 studs long. All the train is 10 studs high from rail height. and * studs wide. Have a look at the scaling picture attached, My version mostly fits the scaling. As far as I can tell the wheels on the real one would scale to just under 2.3, inner rim to inner rim. (see below) so the lego train wheels dimensions are 3 to the flange and 2.30 to the inner rim. So in actual fact the outer dimensions of the Lego wheel flange are too big for this model. When I ran this train with the 6 wide's it does look big for sure. Its total length was over 9 ft.
  9. Thank you pirzyk. I need to iron out some running issues but was eventually pleased with its performance. The curves are home build 72 stud Radius. I made a jig and used Plastruct ABS I beam MEK'd to the top of 2x8 plates, they worked very well.
  10. Hey Matt. The most accurate size is code 250, g scale rail. Code 250 is 1/4 inch as is Lego rail. check out this place, http://microengineer...oducts_rail.htm have a look at product 17-252 also here http://www.switchcrafters.com/ez-catalog/X381875/14/SC-NSR-250-48

Had great fun at a show during the last weekend passed. I had some interesting problems with some of the transmissions on my models. The first issue is that i used two bevel gears that under the torque from the L motor kept on pushing apart, secondly the torque of the bogey was causing the bogie to twist hard and to derail on a curve, even at low speed. So I wanted to start a fresh thread, people can share their transmission ideas, weather tried and tested or just ideas would be great. Thanks here is one of the transmissions in question that pops the red 1x4 off the bottom.
  12. I sadly didn't take enough pictures got absorbed in a few coupling problems, but here is one sat net to the Class 455. Thank you all for the kind words. https://flic.kr/p/pj7hUb
  13. I have finally finished it and took it to a great show today with my LUG. The video is at the end. We did a display at the Mid America Train and Toy show.
  14. I think this de coupling idea is very good! I for sure will use this in the British Rail Class 8 when I get round to building one 8 wide. Do you have pictures showing more build details you would like to share>?
  15. I like the way you have made these with out using very expensive tan window frames, I like the roof lines too! Now just gotta make em 8 wide ha.
  16. This modular design is a fantastic idea! has alot of play ability.
  17. What a fun and unique train, you did good capturing the details!

if brickficiency gives errors then the parts may not be available, no colour set correctly and so on. I use LDD manager to find what parts are not available, then use brickficiency.
  19. Again, a very nice 6 wide Pannier tank. have you motorized your Class 8 and Pannier?
  20. A very nice 6 wide BR Class 8, the class 8 is especially difficult in 6 wide so you did very good.!
  21. Hey Legononymous, I have the same kind of slippage on my 8 wide Class 73 using 8 wheels, I read somewhere that removing the Lego rubber bands and replacing with plumbing o'rings works a treat. I have not tried this yet but need to so will probably pop out today or tomorrow and get some to try. Maybe something like this. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-5-8-in-x-1-2-in-x-1-16-in-Buna-Rubber-O-Ring-84228/203574444
  22. thats a very neat, tidy and fun layout. looks great fun ! I noticed the PF switching mechanisms for the points. how are you controlling them? it would also be cool to see inside them.
