garethjellis replied to fasterthanlight's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI use LDD manager to create the brick link file and substituent wanted list then I use brickficiency to find the cheapest stores for the parts list, it has a few bugs but works a treat.

They do have nice couplers on the dark side...
Hi zephyr, have you used any technic thin beams? I use those in conjunction with the old style magnets as a solution sometimes.

British Rail - Class 73 Locomotive
My Version of the British Rail Class 73 electro-diesel locomotives. This Lego model is 8 wide, has 2 L Power functions motors with 6000mah Li-Ion battery pack., IR receiver ad 1407 total parts. The class 73 is a very unusual locomotive in that they can operate from a 750 V DC third-rail supply but also have a diesel engine to allow them to operate on non-electrified routes. This makes them very versatile, although the diesel engine produces less power than is available from the third-rail supply so they rarely stray from the former Southern Region of British Rail. Following the withdrawal of the more powerful Class 74 electro-diesels in 1977, the Class 73 is now unique on the British rail system.

MOC: CLASS ES (1973) - 4 WHEEL FLAT SLEEPER - New Zealand Rail
Looks good, clean and simple. Just out of interest, How does this flat bed handle switches \ points? How far apart is the wheel centers?

This is a fun design! I see that you have a FBF wheel configuration. How well does this negotiate switches / points?

British Rail - Class 43 Intercity 125 - 8 wide
I have really appreciated all of your nice comments and critique. I really struggled with some of the shapes and such to keep this as accurate a scale model as possible. The biggest challenge for me is what I can sacrifice to make it work vs being a scale model. @ Lego train 12 volts , video coming soon when I have completed the brick build. @ Heppeng, you are indeed correct, the BR HST 125 in blue was 2250, On reflection Paxman did test a 3500bhp engine late 1990's I believe it went in to early 2000 model HST 125's. @ Dr_Spock, well......is bricklink sellers were to never send the wrong stuff not long ha.... ordering takes many many hours, finding the best prices, so all in all I would say about 1 month, @ Antsiranean, it was around the $700 to $800 area. Not exactly sure. @ Paperballpark, depending what seat the minifigs were in they do fit. I did a trail run of lowering the windows by 1 plate and adding 1 row of white above. seems like a better proportion.

I have not been on here for a while, busy building up the BR fleet designs. Here are some renders of my British Rail - Class 43 Intercity 125 - 8 wide model. This is some 7800 parts which are slowly making their way from brick link to my house. Engine Detail with the V12 Diesel coupled to the electric generator creating 3500bhp Second Class First CLass

IR Range for PF train
The other important thing to remember is that IR Infra Red need line of sight to communicate, so you will not be able to send any signals to the train while its in the tunnel.
