Thank you all. I will build the dummy bogie and keep the motor for a later date. His current train system is the Thomas Trackmaster whose on/off switch disengages the motor from the wheels when turning off and allows push play with no resistance (from the motor) on the wheels. This is our first LEGO train an he'll open it tomorrow night. Cheers and thank you.

I just got 7939 Cargo train for my little one and it's my first motorized LEGO train. My son likes playing with trains by hand a lot more than having them run by themselves. Can you push the motorized loco around easily or is there resistance from the motor? Does this damage the motor? If so, I'll take a bogie from one of the wagons and replace it on the loco leaving it un-motorized. Thanks
  3. Hello everyone, I never reached the LEGO trains as a kid because they were too expensive but now I have a little kid so I'm taking him along for a ride. So far I've been able to get a Santa Fe, the club car and Harry Potter. The Maersk and the Emerald are riding with Santa to reach me in a couple of days :) Santa is also getting the little one the cargo track set so we can roll some of this stock on it. After I build these sets and learn how the LEGO train system works I hope to create some of my own. I also got a Mindstorms that I want to integrate into it.
