My feeling would say 1/16 for typical lopro long haul, and 17 for heavier duty.

Don't ever say scale builders don't do their math This discussion is already very very old and us scalebuilders have already put a lot of research in this. Actually we have joked a lot about this during meetings. to your comments: 12.5R24.5 is by far not a common truckttire in the USA. Secondly, you refer to the Kenworth K200, but this one is built in Australia for Australian market and not a typical refference for USA trucks. Nonetheless, I checked and it commonly runs on 295/80R22.5 Bridgestone tyres which are 1058 mm for long haul, normal duty (see picture) . In the USA tyres for class 8 trucks have long been around 11R24.5 as a standard. Nowadays they move more towards smaller wheels for long haul. The Peterbilts I built very often run on slightly smaller than 11R24.5 wheels, in fact many USA trucks do, especially on regular long haul. Here is for example a common type Peterbilt 389 running on smaller 75R24.5 ones: http://www.truckmarket.org/trucks/?vid=6552 The ones I have built were all on 22.5's. Depending on the profile height of course it gives a different diameter but the trucks I build have been around 40,3 inch to 41.3 inch. The last ones all had 295/75R22.5, which gives around 1:16 with a 62.4. Some refference table attached.

They are two nice trucks. I do think the cabin is too high. This is a 1:16 scale. The Lego wheel diameter is 62.4 mm. An avarage truck wheel is about 1000 mm (24.5 inch rims on steering axle plus avarage tire), that makes 1:16. Having a height of around 11 feet (ex stacks), will give you a max. height of around 20-21 cm. I think your height is a bit more.

Thnx buddy! On your comment: I guess the detail is hidden on the pictures, although it can be seen in the last picture. The clutch cable (left) extends to the gearbox. The right brake cable is going to the front wheels as can be seen.

Its not the relevant forum. A scale model is as accurate as it gets.. this does not really qualify. This is a model that fits for Technic and modelteam. This forum was never created to host every single thing that doesnt look like Technic. Thats not the definition of a scale model.

Not meant offensive.. but this is not a scale model, its by far not accurate enough to qualify for that.

There are indeed very few 1:17 COE trucks. This is the first one I see, besides some Model Team set inpired things.

When making vehicles the Lego wheel diameter compared to the original is in most cases the scale definer. That results commenly in scales from 1:22 to 1:8,5 (I am building on this scale now)

For this scale it is very good,... not a suprise as it comes from your hands :-) I agree with the discussion that the geometry from Lego somewhere starts to become a drawback at too small scales. Bigger scales 1:17 up give much more room for detail, and define scale modeling more. As this whole thing is still a subdivision its good that we share all our thoughts and come to a more solid definition.

Good that you take this type of car to build. I have to agree with Edwin, to be honest it has to get a lot more detailed to really be classified as a true scale model. But there lies your opurtunity!

Thnx. The springs come my toolshed :-) The footrest are as untypical as the rest of the bike, designed after the first heritage softails who had massive steps as well. All is thought off as usual :-)

Currently I am working on a new Lego project (large scale Duesenberg SJ) and while waiting for a few exotic parts I decided to update my small Harley Davidson collection with a model I have had in mind for a while; a custom softail with classic springer frontend. The colors and plated parts are inspired by the Chicano style lowriders I often admire in Magazines. I just love these wild rides with an extreme attention to detail. These types of bikes can be seen with fantastic artwork and completely engraved engines and accessories. This 1:10 model has many customized parts as well. All Lego ABS parts are plated with true chrome and gold, at an industrial ‘plating on plastics’ factory. Some Lego parts cannot be electro-plated (non-ABS) and are therefor sprayed, like the Technic connectors and 75 mm front wheel. Silicone cables are used for the front brake and clutch cable. I nicknamed it “last of the wilds” as it will probably take a while before I have time to build a new one.
