Budgeting and choosing sets for your collection
I have an overall household budget but not specifically for lego. We have money put aside for each week to spend on whatever we like $200 (its called a splurge account and it is not just for lego), i buy out of this mainly sets that will fit my lego city or my kids will enjoy. Normally i am patient and don't buy at first release for the lego exclusive sets. Most sets go for 20% off sales at a minimum but it means i don't normally get the Lego exclusives until 6 months after release when they become available in stores that discount. I also graft away on BrickLink to get parts for instructions i have bought or for sets i have missed or just for building up my city (over a year or two i bricklinked 4 modulars that i missed, i sorta like the chase). If they are more expensive sets like the roller coaster then i ask my wife to get them for me for Christmas or Birthday.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Probably a fire station to ramp up the play aspect and a good reason to include a vehicle.

Alternative Diner
Sorry not a fan of the change. The large arch no longer "pops" for mine and blends away in the street view. I would prefer another more contrasting colour if not the turquoise. But if it floats your boat that is all that should matter to you. PS i love your fully lit buildings.

MOC: Modular Bookstore
I love some of the detail. Baby in the cot and the way you got rounded ends on the books in the book case instead of just using flay plates/tiles.

Size comparisons carousels
I think the one from the winter village is better scaled to modulars and the fairground sets especially roller coaster.

AFOL with Spouses not into Lego, what's your agreement?
i have a 12' x 15 ' lego city set up with shelves set up underneath for spare bricks/sets etc. The kids also like building cubbies under this. As long as i keep an area so the kids can build farms etc and it is not spread all over the house she is happy. The hardest thing is keeping my three year old from spreading lego all through the house and dismantling sets quicker than i get time to repair them. She does not build but accepts it as i could have worse hobbies or just spend time with mates or down the pub. At least I'm home to look after the kids while i play with my lego. Also, all three kids enjoy building with there dad, often i am relegated to part finder while the kids build.

[PRESS RELEASE] 10260 - Downtown Diner
While i would have bought this for completionism i think after seeing Jangs review i am more of a fan than i was.I love some of the techniques used for the windows to give the offsets for the arches. It will be interesting to see how you go adding another word in a similar style. Personally would only go with one set of steps and increase the business sizes as they are a little under done and there is plenty of ideas to add to these.

[MOD] Parisian Restaurant full 32-width
Its great the Chez Albert is doing so well and has needed an extension fora while. I really like they way you have stuck to the overall design and it does not look out of place. Four stories makes its a bit more Paris for me. I love a spa bath so i am glad the artist at the end of a hard day can relax and let creative juices flow.

Gigantic Christmas Village
Great looking layout. It has ,depth and consistency making it a nice little village. I really like it.

What is Town Forum to you?
For me personally , i have three young children and a full time job. Although i would love to build more Mocs, i focus on my layout and the joining of official sets into a town setting, this is what interests me the most, as time is limited. I am also happy to buy instructions of great Mocs and track down the parts on Bricklink. The reason i think offical sets get more comments is that more people who visit this site are into them than Mocs. Some people also don't like to critisize other peoples work when they are actually the one posting. Mainly i think though is that more people relate to the experience of building the official sets as they own them, have built them or can buy them, thus they feel they can contribute more with these subjects. I also get annoyed by people posting just to get support for there lego ideas projects when the person is obviously not here as a part of the community so will never comment. I mainly only visit town and train forums as the train forum has a lot of crossover when it comes to layouts.

10182 Cafe Corner Photo Review!
I am not sure why you bumped this old thread. But that link does not really add anything new for me, i must be missing some context to the images or something.
