SBrick General Discussion
pasztorl replied to Nofer89's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi Guys, I'm from SBrick. I want to do a little update here about the posts above. Buwizz vs SBrick (not the Plus version) In general they have almost the same specs but Buwizz includes a powerful internal battery. People usuallty use Buwizz for cars because of the power and the space saved by the integrated battery unit. SBrick used by more advanced creations which includes more functions since SBrick has more flexible remote control solution and programming features. SBrick also cheaper for one unit, but can be much cheaper when you use multiple SBrick with one power source. SBrick also can be used with LiPo battery, but the user needs to "hack" a power cable for it, because SBrick has no official solution to connect non-LEGO power source. The main difference between SBrick and SBrick Plus is that SBrick Plus can handle sensors. All ports not just output (like SBrick and Buwizz) but can handle inputs too. The supported sensors are the WeDo 1.0 proximity and tilt. Kickstarter With our second kickstarter we developed not just the SBrick Plus (which is on sale now) but adapters for PF2 (the new wave lego electronics) and EV3 to connect to SBrick and SBrick Plus. We ready the hardware design, firmware and software modifications more than two years ago. Unfortunately we can't produce them, because we couldn't find any manufacturer to make the adapters in the right quality with a reasonable price. Now we moved the production to the third company. At the past we worked with "little" manufacturers, but we realized that the quality and avability can be a big problem with them. Our newest partner is a big company called Tungsram. Since we can't find a manufacturer to make the adapters we opensourced all of our work, so some users can hack the adapters. Now we give a try with Tungsram to produce the adapters, maybe they have the right technology for that. New wave lego electronics We wanted to solve the compatibility issue (LEGO don't want to solve this) with the adapters. Since we have manufacturing challenges with it we decided that we also make software compatibility layer too. We working on a new SBrick driver, itt will include full support for all PF2 devices (like powered up, control+, boost and the wedo 2.0 hub and the connectable devices). This driver will be included in the current SBrick and the SBrick Pro app. SBrick Pro app The SBrick Pro app is designed from the scratch focusing on programming. It also have a more advanced version of the Profile Designer which is integrated inside to the app. The pro app will work on iOS 10+, iPadOS (all releases), Windows 7+ (in browser) and Android 5+ It will have other also interesting features, but I don't want to spoiler it for now. :) We have very limited developer capacity, actually we wanted to push it earlier, but we had a lot work to handle all LEGO devices properly. I hope you will see the progress around easter. SBrick 3 project We wanted to go a big leap forward and give a competely new hw platform for the building blocks. We wanted to crowdfund the project. We discovered that the crowdfunding is not regulated in Hungary by the law and we don't want to take any risk for our backers, so the project now "paused". We will go forward when we have a resolution for this challenge.- 761 replies

We are investigating how we support this "feature". The main problem is that if we continously scanning in the background the active connections can be lag/unstable, so the next compromise can be that the profile waiting for all of the configured SBrick when the profile starts for 5 seconds, then the profile will start with the SBrick(s) found in that time limit, then there is no scanning until the next profile start. How it sounds for you? Or anybody have a better idea handling this? BTW, we updated the apps, and there is also a new feature. You can configure what happens when you close the profile or the app in the profile settings. You have two options. Reset the SBrick ports to null (this is the default), or leave the SBrick ports on the last state. This is also can be useful for trains when you want to leave the train running while you close the app.- 761 replies

The app currently wants to connect all configured SBricks before it actually start. But it's an interesting usecase. We can implement a modification for this. I imagine a new way, where the profile shows up, but only that controls usable which have actually connected SBrick. The app can keep trying to connect the missing SBricks at the background.- 761 replies

Now the official SBrick app support gamepads on iOS/Android. You may need a gamepad which can pair with your phone/tablet, then you can configure the gamepad in the profile settings.- 761 replies

Hi Guys, We are released the new Android and iOS apps. They will be online in 1-2 hours in the google play and probably 2-3 days in the app store. The current firmware is 17. We measured about ~25% descrease in latency with the new firmware, this is good news for fast cars. :) Also we hope our new driver will have better compatibility with many android devices and versions. If you upgrade the FW you may need switch on/off the Bluetooth and pair/unpair the SBrick in the Android's Bluetooth settings after the OTA update. Also the app now have a feedback menu so please report there if you have problems with the new release. Some other new feature: - the clinometer working on iOS, and working some android devices (it seems the gyro control is not the same on all android devices too :( So you can use your phone like a joy. Remember, to enable the clino you need to put the clino on/off switch to your profile. - sequences now working on iOS For example you can create index lamps with it. - SBrick Plus now supported in the Android app (for iOS we release it later) - There are a new Profile Designer release coming this weekend with bugfixes and better builtin help. With the new release you can place custom uploaded images not just for background and control background but any place in the profile. It is useful if you want to put custom graph or text in the profile. Have a nice play in weekend!- 761 replies

Hi Guys, We are starting to test the new release. Here is a link for the Android version. This is not the public release, but it is very useful for us fi you can test it also. Please download this apk if your Android app not works with your SBrick: http://dewsys.com/sbrick/releases/sbrick-4.2.0.68_2.135.16-r.apk Please send us your report here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeQMie_XRcylXdiV_qadJDqR3oqA6f8mmmFi_FOYS7ftB1zOQ/viewform or you can find feedback menu in the application. The new firmware version is 16. There are changes in the communication protocol to decrease the packet flow between the SBrick and the Phone. This will improve the connection stability. Of course the driver changed too. Please start with updating the firmware. With the new firmware the SBrick stores the name, so if you are in an exibition you can find your SBrick easier. We are still testing too, this is not the final version for the next public release, but I wanted to give you some progress about the app. If you have iOS, you also can get the new release, please send us your UUID to info@sbrick.com, then we can send you the app directly, without the apple review process delay.- 761 replies

In WeDo 2.0 the PF connector has changed and (of course) it is not compatible only with LEGO, and (of course) LEGO is patented the new connector. Anyway, we will ask them about it if the campgain successful.
