  1. the issue with the smooth faced slopes was that they where more difficult to grip and remove from builds, depending on how they were connected of course. but there are now bricks far more annoying to remove than those (1x2x 2/3 round slopes can be a real pain) As for when building non-roof objects I tend to use other technics for smooth inclined surfaces (hinges and standard bricks, possibly with SNOTing)
  2. Took a group photo of my speed champs cars so far, thought I'd share it (as i feel it looks pretty cool) also you can see the official set McLaren P1 lurking in the background
  3. so have you found out if she is single? does she have a sister?
  4. OK cool, context really helps bring everything together. I also like the side plows and can't wait to see this brick built!
  5. that plow is Huge! 11 wide for a city scaled plow, wow, at that size its nearly twice as wide as standard Lego set vehicles (including buses and Semis) also it is assumed you are working for city scale since that's the sub forum we are in.

Wow this looks fantastic! did you model it after anything in particular in Skyrim? or just use Falkreath as the location?
  7. had a strange dream the other night about the upcoming constraction figs... strange because I don't own any bionicle or hero factory... and because in the dream Lego replaced Boba/Jango with.......... Sabine! and surprisingly I like that idea, after all there isn't much pink in technic/constraction yet.
  8. let me give you some advice, don't fall in love with appearances, fall in love with the person. If you really seriously think this is your "One" then you should probably contact her. Find out if you have anything other than Lego in common, like oh being single? good starting point
  9. indeed, Jabberwocky
  10. Not sure how wide spread this one was:
  11. I've known for 2 days now, but haven't had time to search for a pic to follow up with (still haven't) BUT.... It is “Snatch”
  12. Welcome to the party! If your going for a full city layout (no matter how big) MOCs will inevitably be included. its hard to get everything spaced out nicely with only existing sets. and If/when you get into MOCing you will find that its very helpful to have a large selection of bricks available both for size of MOC reasons, and for creativity, more parts means more options. (also more cost but if the budget allows it I recommend it) also I find it fun to include other themes into city builds, Darth Vader in a traffic jam, or Spiderman late for school, never underestimate whimsy oh I almost forgot, don't hesitate to ask other builders for pointers on how they did things, most of us here will gladly share tips and photo's of builds to help you on your on works should you start MOCs
  13. well my thinking was that these locations are less then 20 min apart, and most of the Lego stores I've been to are hours away from each other (some cases states away), not minutes. but still I think you answered my question, and its likely that both locations will stay in place, which is a win for me as it basically doubles the available stock of new sets on release days

I hope you share that last picture with our star wars friends neat little wood chipper, lots of features on it!
  15. Surprise! another new one! The 1995 Renault Espace F1! In 1995, Renault displayed a show car called the Espace F1, which was created by Matra to celebrate both the 10th anniversary of the Espace and Renault's involvement in Formula One racing. Though it resembled an Espace with substantial bodywork changes, the vehicle had more in common with a Formula One car. The vehicle used a lightweight carbon fibre F1-style chassis in combination with a carbon fibre-reinforced Espace J63-series body. Powering the Espace F1 was an 800 hp (597 kW; 811 PS) upgraded from its original rating of 700 hp (522 kW; 710 PS) 3.5-litre, 40-valve Renault RS5 V10 engine, as used in the 1993 Williams-Renault FW15C. As with an F1 car, the V10 engine was mid-engined and the power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a 6-speed semi-automatic gearbox, also used in the Williams FW15C. The engine and transmission allowed the Espace F1 to accelerate from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 2.8 seconds, 0–200 km/h (0–124 mph) in 6.9 seconds and carry on accelerating to a top speed of 312 km/h (194 mph). With the use of carbon-ceramic brakes, the Espace F1's deceleration was no less impressive that its acceleration, and could accelerate from 0–270 km/h (0–168 mph) and brake from top speed to a complete halt in under 600 metres (1,969 ft) My Lego Version is 6 bricks tall, and 18 studs long, fits a single figure, and sports a massive v-8 engine in the middle (as apposed to the V-10 mentioned above) Happy Little Jester piloting a vehicle as absurd as he is! side view showing the intakes for the mid engined Super Van. Top removed to show the above mentioned over sized V-8 engine. and lastly Quad exhaust (again? yes apparently cars i pick to convert to brick are all sporting quad exhausts!) As always, I hope you enjoyed my build, there are more pictures of the car in my Flickr, for those that want to see more. Comments and critiques welcomed!
  16. My newest car is finally here, the Maserati MC12! This Italian supercar was built on the same chassis as the Ferrari Enzo, but was completely restyled by Maserati. nick named the Enzo secondGeneration. it was taller, Longer and Wider than the Enzo, due to this it weighed more and was ultimately slower both in acceleration and top speed. in competition it did rather well in GT1, but was found to be to long for American Le Mans series racing. This is far and away my longest City car to date at a full 19 studs long! likely a record to be held until I get around to a Limo or Pickup Truck. it is also 1 plate taller than my Pagani (roof scoop only) Long Low nose and side break vents and rear radiator intakes. from this angle the signature hood vents are visible. you can see here just how long it is 7 studs between fenders, and another 5 added outside them lastly the rear, where the quad exhaust is easily visible (side note, the Binoculars are probably the best piece ever for exhaust on cars like this) As always, I hope you enjoyed my build, there are more pictures of the car in my Flickr, for those that want to see more. Comments and critiques welcomed!
  17. there is a Lego Discovery Center set to open spring 2016 in the Detroit Metro area, not sure what will happen to the store already in that area, any history on this sort of event? (store exiting in same are as a Discovery Center to be opened)
  18. nicely done, I definitely can see how it may be used as a stud finder / metal detector / and a prox. sensor (as guessed before)

Thanks for the shout out on the GT40, yours is very nice, i can see a good number of the same styling as mine but it's also very different and looks great! I might even have to copy the rear you built also the Porsche 917K looks really good, I am still trying to work out a way to build one myself so I'll likely use yours as inspiration. now the real trick will be getting a fig into that car somehow....
  20. keep in mind that the speed champs fenders are already in the upcoming City Square set, in dark gray, which will be another new color, though it looks like there are only 2 in that set at this point.... still i expect to see the fenders widely used in other sets, here's hoping for that gorgeous dark blue!
  21. I've actually nearly completed the entire Slave I set list (including mini scale as well) I'm Only missing 6964 Kabaya promo still. once I have that I plan to take some pictures of them all. might even include the Jango Versions too just to really push it over the top
  22. Milano, is just an amazing ship, and is definitely a must have for Marvel sets (find yourself a Rocket and Baby Groot polybag too, to finish the entire crew off) as for X-Men and quinjet, for me its a toss up, I'd probably lean Quinjet as I'm not a big fan of the Sentinel, and I think the Quinjet is a bit better built.

pft! that's nothing, I was still... well waiting my turn so to speak. (waited approx. 4 more years too) I grew up with the 1997 rerelease, and honestly hadn't thought much of star wars until that hit theaters. since then though I've always wanted to see the original, or most original version available. as for my complaints about changes made to films I wasn't even around to see it, its never been about the change to the memories as it has been the change to how feel of the scene is received. Han and Greedo for example, the first time I saw that Han DID shoot first BUT I never cared about who was first the scene still left Han as someone who will kill Just as Obiwan will slice you up (for some people multiple times) the reason I want Han to shoot first is simply to reaffirm the fact that he is actually a killer, no matter if he is a good guy amongst the bad, he is still the bad guy amongst the good. And I have to believe there are others out there begging for the originals for the same reason I sought out the VHS, they grew up with the new one and hear all these complaints about the changes, it’s hard to NOT think that the original would be better than the new. Really though at the end of it all I just want a film that feels right, the extra CGI moments (looking at you RotJ) feel completely out of place at times and break the immersion you get with the practical effects used originally.
  24. Ok, starting with the figures, they are outdated although still good, there is still the fact that this low production set has to have figures made exclusively for its low number runs. Costly to manufacture (change in mold/prints/assembly of figs) so perhaps they want to end as much of those as they can. Don’t forget Vader gets a new helm soon, they might not want to keep making the old while the new is out too. Then there is the price point you mention and the slowing of sales, Lego has got to be considering ending this set soon, its 8 years old after all. Bigger is Better, sadly this isn’t always the case but it’s still what the fans ask for constantly. And if you are going to redo something like the DS, then Bigger will make it easier to include more details. And if they can hold a price point near the old one it will sell very well. Lastly the timing of it, rumor while the old is still available… this one might be a game changer (lets be honest Lego really doesn’t follow the rules we try to make for their high dollar sets DS itself is proof of this) But think about it a bit, perhaps Lego has decided there will always be a Death Star set available, and after 8 years it’s time to refresh this top tier set to help revitalize sales of basically the same set. There will be people who buy a new one to complete collections; there will also be parents who buy it simply from the news of a new one (and not knowing about the current one since it’s in very few retail stores) Now I’m not saying that this rumor is true, but there are ways to view things to make this at least plausible.

a single stud to axle hole connection is legal the "illegality" occurs when you try to connect more than a single studded item to multiple axle holes (spacing is wrong so it causes extra stress) as for the clips to plates, the new modern plates with the fingernail grove on the bottom can be used with clips and not cause extra stress. (think of the edge as a round object, the grove now reduces the diameter to a point Lego has OK'd) also there is a thread up in general talking about connections: (look for the PDF for Lego's definition on the subject) Illegal and Legal connections
