Custom LDD bricks and fixes
ProfessorBrickkeeper replied to Equilibrium's post in a topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and ProjectsI'm currently working on adding in some of the updated magnet elements, but am running into an issue with the outline generation. Namely, despite the model UV shells being set up so that the edges should define the outlines (which is how LEGO does it, and I suspect/hope @polymaker does too), the outline generation ignores flat surface features, such as a border of the magnet and the magnet icon inlays. See the images below for more info. Can anyone tell what I may be doing wrong?

Custom LDD bricks and fixes
ProfessorBrickkeeper replied to Equilibrium's post in a topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and ProjectsI've spent the past few evenings adding support for the mini-doll figure to LEGO Digital Designer. In the process, I've been tinkering around with the LDD connection system, and there seem to be a number of unused connections that are still recognized by the program. In case anyone finds them useful, where mini-dolls are concerned: Hinge 220 (F) /221 (M) are used for articulated connection between legs/hips. Hinge 222 (M) /223 (F) are is used for the articulated connection between arms/torso. Fixed 116 (F) /117 (M) are used for the fixed connection between hips/torso.

Custom LDD bricks and fixes
ProfessorBrickkeeper replied to Equilibrium's post in a topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects@polymaker Hey, great work on Brick Studio. Minor bug, but in the Connection parameters for Custom2DFields, the SubType doesn't see to save when you press enter or select another field, and reverts if a different element is selected. This means that the connection always gets stuck as default subtype 23, unless copied over from an existing brick.

Custom LDD bricks and fixes
ProfessorBrickkeeper replied to Equilibrium's post in a topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects@polymaker Thank you so much for the Alpha v0.2 build and congratulations on getting married! Is there any way to have more manual control over the generation of outlines? I've been working on an updated minifigure torso, but am getting strange artifacts when it comes to the shoulder. The imported model was created using separate shells for the front, side, and top (and hardened normals along the edges of said shells) which I would expect to be more than enough to generate outlines, yet they seem to fall-off near the corner.

Custom LDD bricks and fixes
ProfessorBrickkeeper replied to Equilibrium's post in a topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and ProjectsHey there. I have a bunch of parts that I am ready to port into LDD, but am not having any luck getting @polymaker's tool to compile using the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio. Would someone here mind sharing a built version of the LDD Brick Studio application? (I can't find one anywhere else in this thread.)

@Xon67 Wonderful work on the various rooms of the Octan tower, they're certainly coming together well. Sorry I've been so inactive in this topic as of late. I've been quite busy lately with life and work (including some freelance 3D work for TLG's licensing department related to The LEGO Batman Movie!) While I'm not sure if you'd still be interested, I should have some free time over the next week or two when I could do renders of Bricksburg I mentioned a time ago, now that most every building has been built or corrected!

@Xon67 @krisandkris12 Looking at those models, I don't immediately see any parts I don't currently have in my brick library (I still have to get around to doing some of the more dish elements), so if you feel like sending along the LDD file, I'd be more than happy to set up some lighting and effects for a rendering! I also might try to optimize some of the skyscrapers buildings into a single, textured, mesh to speed up rendering in the future.

Hey, I thought it was about time to give an update on my recreation of the nonexistent 60T Gear used in the movie version of the Supercycle. I spent some time over the last few days cleaning up and optimizing the mesh, so that it is now one solid, watertight object, more suited to rendering. What this also means is that I should be able to get some physical prototypes 3D printed sometime in the next few weeks, before I make it available for purchase to the public.

I'm glad to be the candy man in your analogy! I may have gone a bit overboard, but here's an album of the Red Brick tower, and another of that white building. (I should mention that the white building appears twice, optimized differently, so you should look at the last picture for a better view of the side.) (Also, I just realized that, after this post, I should now be able to use Eurobrick's personal message, which should make communication a lot easier.)

Ooh, very nice. The only critique I have is that, going of the where the radio station appears around the 00:03:12 mark, the top of the towers appears too large to be a 1x1 ball like yours uses, leading me to think It might actually be exactly as it appears in the Videogame, despite how weird it may look. EDIT: I looked again, and it seems your version is also slightly too tall as well. Here is the top portion as it appears in the video game, and here it is translated into LDD. Also of note is the fact that a 2x2 center plate w. 1 knob and a 1x1 round brick are used on the 4x4 plate with frame, while you appear to have used a plate 2x2 w. vertical snap (2460).

Xon67--While I tend to use a mix of Autodesk Maya and Maxon Cinema 4D for modeling and rendering, in this case the part is being done purely in Cinema 4D. Interestingly, while doing research for modeling the part, I discovered the video game actually has a screen-accurate version of the Super Cycle hidden in one of the test scenes (along with various prototypes) so that might provide good additional reference material.

Thanks for the offer of reference images and diagrams, but between the movie and video game I think I have enough material to work with. At this point I mostly have to use the boolean modifier to carve some holes into the base gear and combine everything into a single mesh, so all things going to plan, it should be done sometime soon!
