  1. I believe this is a general forum for all minfigure creations. I think it works like this (but bear in mind I am not an expert): "A custom minifigure" refers to any figure that has been consciously modified to look a specific way that differs from how LEGO made it. Then, it gets more specific: A purist custom is one that, while it has been changed, has not actually been painted, etc. It refers to one that uses LEGO parts, but is not how LEGO intended for it to be. While a straight up custom figure (not the technical term, or even accepted slang, that's just what I say) is one that has undergone some (usually irreversible) modification, like paint or decals. It uses parts that were either made by the customizer, or were bought from someone else. A purist may be all LEGO partst, but they are still technically "custom" in that they are not LEGO's original design. I hope I've been of some help.
  2. I've been really out of the loop on this- I missed the confirmation. Anyways, good news. But I really don't know why anyone is thinking this will be Old School- to me, it's pretty obvious its going to be the new show (which looks terrifying for all the wrong reasons. Goodness, what have they done!). I mean, just look at Ninja Turtles: sets for the new show, and the new movie, but no classic sets whatsoever, and with none in the foreseeable future. Which is really a shame. I just hope those hideous new designs translate well into LEGO form- or else I may be out. The figures in the "Star Wars: Rebels" sets give me hope that these won't be like the Clone Wars figures, but they'll still be based on those designs. Now, the real question is why they changed the character designs for the new show? This is, to the best of my knowledge, the first change ever (provided we don't count the natural changes as animation technology gets better), save a few attempts to modernize their wardrobe. Hm, oh well, that's not really on topic here, so I'll leave it with that.

You know what? I always defend this line. I'm always the guy who says to be happy that we got anything, and I try to defend the choices that LEGO made, even the bad ones. I know some are bad, but I can usually defend them to some extent, but... Well, I just can't defend this... I mean, really? The only thing I remember about Bard's kids were that they were there. I don't remember any of them having red hair, I remember a boy with brown and a girl, I think her hair was blonde? I don't remember. And I think one of the kids got attacked by an orc? But that's all I remember. No names, no roles, or anything. They were barely characters, they were just there. I didn't care to get the one in the Laketown set, and actually had to look up who it was. Now, we get the same one again? What? They literally could not have picked a less significant character for this. Literally. This is just ridiculous. At the very least, they could have made a different kid, though I think we all would've preferred Old Bilbo or something like that. There were tons of other things they could've done. Oh well, I guess it is what it is, but this is just insanity. EDIT: It should be noted I haven't seen Battle of the Five Armies yet. So if Bard's kids have a bigger role in that, I guess it makes some sense (even if this is the DoS variant)

Let's all remember that more movies does not necessarily mean more LEGO sets. A cartoon might, but if they adapted, say, Children of Hurin, (I have never read it, I only know from a summary of it I heard) LEGO wouldn't touch that. They only got The Hobbit because it was a book that is considered a kids book. They wouldn't do anything too dark. And further, if this business partnership between LEGO and the New Line didn't go so well, as we suspect, then they won't be eager to get one again. We're getting a bit off topic though- this thread is to discuss the Hobbit sets from 2014. Which, having seen better pictures of, I can say are quite nice. I still haven't seen the movie, but we've gotten a lot of good stuff this wave, and I, frankly, cannot complain. (one final word- someone asked if the rights that Tolkien sold allowed for remakes: Well, I don't know for sure, but I think so, since Ralph Bashki did a cartoon adaptation in the 70s, so technically the films we know today are remakes. It isn't out of the question that they could do that again. As for doing stories from the Appendices... They probably could, but they'd have to fight for it)
  5. I got the Ecto-1, and six CMF series 12 (two wizards, a princess, lifeguard, dino-hunter, and pig). Overall a good Christmas.
  6. Dumb and Dumber To. Hysterical, a perfect sequel. 14/10

Welcome to Eurobricks! And really great job on those figures- Zelda, especially, looks fantastic!

I like the Banner itself, but the height really makes no difference. On one hand, the old height gave the forum itself more room, on the other hand, this one allows the banner to be seen better... Eh, I could go either way. The winter banner is great though.
  9. One of my all time favorite sets. Excellent modifications, shame it has to go, but at the same time, I can't wait to see what you'll come up with next.

That is an excellent mini amusement park. Great work, and welcome to Eurobricks!
  11. Well, I make no promises, but I'll see what I can do. I've been using paint for years, so I know a few cheats to get it to work better.

I agree they probably won't, but what I was getting at was that, since they put pointy ears on that sleepy kid hairpiece (at least, it looks like it), could they not do the same to this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=x219 Or this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=62711 Or something else like that. I think the latter is more likely. In any case, it's more of wishful thinking, but I think it's still possible.

I just had a thought... I was looking at the spiky hair with pointed ears, and I started to wonder... Do you think this theme will ever give us an appropriate bowl cut with pointy ears for a Vulcan or Romulan? This is probably just wishful thinking, but do you think there's actually a chance of it happening?

Wow! Seeing the sets close up- I love them! They look great! The colors and designs are just fantastic! I don't like the minidolls though. I normally don't like minidolls in general, but these seem worse than the other ones. It doesn't take anything away from those wonderful sets though!
  15. The Hot Dog Guy loves hot dogs, so he dresses up as one? Weird, I thought he was selling them too. Odd. But it says that he loves hot dogs so much and his dream is to find out how they are made? If he really loves hot dogs, I don't think he really wants to know..:

That's not what I meant. I meant that anyone could play him because we never see him without his helmet on. Jeremy Bulloch, the original wearer of the suit, was white as well, yet no one knows that because we don't see his face. In theory, he could be portrayed by anyone of any race (or gender for that matter) as long as he doesn't remove the helmet. They can do a voice over, as they did in the original (the voice he originally had in the 80's cut was not provided by the same guy that wore the suit). Should they cast someone of the right ethnicity? Yes, they probably should, BUT since we never see his face, technically anyone could wear the suit. In any case, from what I know about the filming of the prequels, they probably won't be able to get the same guy who was Jango. But, I don't even know if Fett being in this movie is confirmed, so I have no idea why this even matters...
  17. Rocket Racoon by himself is actually only 8 dollars on Bricklink at the time of my posting this... (Probably should've bought one before posting this. D'oh!)
  18. But that was through LEGO Ideas (or CUUSOO, back in the day). If you want them to listen, you ought to use that. Otherwise, I can't see this going anywhere... Link is here: https://ideas.lego.com/ Keep in mind that this is not guaranteed, even if you get to 10,000, they may not accept it. But it is worth trying.
  19. I have to say, the newest ones look really great! Very nice design work. I especially love Batman's eyes. How are the printed legs? They don't rub off when the legs move, do they?
  20. These are all fantastic! Well done!
  21. I doubt we'd ever get a Fin-Fang-Foom minifigure... I mean, he's a big dragon, making him a minifigure is illogical...
  22. Borador replied to Oky's post in a topic in Culture & Multimedia
I know. And that was terrible. I actually liked the Prequels, but even I cannot deny that they handled the Fetts horribly. Jango was cool, but that was really it...
  23. Borador replied to Oky's post in a topic in Culture & Multimedia
I don't want to get in on this spoiler discussion, but since we never see Boba Fett's face (Or at least, I hope they don't unmask him. That would be atrocious), I don't see why it matters who plays him. Just as long as they don't have Jango's actor voice him again. It was fine that they changed his voice, but the guy wasn't even trying, his acting was so stiff and robotic. (actually, now that I think about it, it was terrible that they changed his voice. The original was perfect, and even if he is a clone of Jango, accents are not genetic, so he'd have had to live around people with that accent his whole life to have one, which he didn't. Actually, he didn't even have it in Episode II, so changing it was just dumb. In addition, his original voice was awesome and perfect, and the new guy didn't even try.. Gah, never mind)
  24. Indeed. Furthermore, isn't this what LEGO Ideas is for?
  25. A very excellent figure indeed, and a perfect way to celebrate it being Christmas time. Looking forward to tomorrow's!
