Thanks!

60051 middle car
Thanks nfl_solo. What parts do you think you'll need to make a third middle car from the second set?

60051 middle car
Thanks Spock. I've spend the evening looking at a PDF of the instructions, and building out the third car won't need a lot of parts, and none of them are rare / unusual. Will one PF motor in the front be sufficient, or should I use the second motor in the rear engine, and tie it into the same PF control channel. I'm thinking two motors will be needed.

60051 middle car
Nice. Reminds me of 10002 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=10002-1, and for the same price I can almost buy a 60051 - but it does provide a suggestion to work with. Thx

60051 middle car
Looking to build a long high speed. I thinking of getting two of the 60051s. This will obviously get me one extra car, and I'm pretty sure a second car, but I'm wondering how many additional bricks I'd need to squeeze out a third car. Is it a small amount, or am I just better off sticking with the two extra cars. Thx

We lost the two junctions we have in 60052, but we also gained a lower price ~$150 Vs $200

Beginner + first layout design
I've a 4yr old who loves playing with my Lego trains (just the red and blue cargo trains... so far), and there are three things he enjoys doing with them: just watching the train go around in a loop changing directions, and changing speeds - but not the precision control needed for shunting flipping the switches to change where the train goes - this goes to you set having the train get stuck on the inner loop What I would change on you setup, for my kid (every kid is different) is to drop the shunting yard, and have several loops that the trains can go between with flipping switches, but never get trapped in a loop and reverse out - sorry, I don't have a particular layout to suggest - have fun!
