Yea I mean the way they hung the sails for this set and QAR are the same. They are going back to the old way seen in SES and BSB.I prefer the way the sails were rigged in the IFS and Brickbeard's bounty.

^^ Good observation about the thing on the back of the figurehead, I can't make it out though... I agree with most people, hate the minifig selections. I mean, I understand LEGO wants two faction sides to increase playability, but I was really hoping for some more generic pirates for MOCs. I think to date there's only 3 generic pirates from the PotC sets.

Found this via bricklink a few minutes ago. https://exoneit.de/default.asp?ex=shop:produktedetail.asp&Artikel_id=103054&kat_id=7251 Official unwatermarked images. Doesn't appear to be any different than preliminary pictures, but the prelim pics were so bad I could hardly make out anything. Not really liking how they're going back to the old way of hanging the sails, I thought the new method seen in the new IFS and Brickbeard's Bounty did a much better job of looking like the sails were catching wind and making it less prone to sagging and wrinkling...
  4. The older instructions are a little harder to read in my opinion, but I like the older ones rather than the new ones. The new ones you'll find a whole page dedicated to 2-3 pieces, older instructions added MANY more bricks per step and its hard to catch them. So as an adult, I like the older instructions cause it's more of a challenge, now a days, even with sets labelled 16+ I'm pretty sure a 12 year old could follow them. That being said, I think Brickbeard's bounty is much better designed than Red Beard Runner and thus may be easier to follow.

^ Comic Con in San Diego is coming up in a couple weeks. That's were the first rumor of a PotC line first originated (With Jack sparrow riding a lama in a Prince of Persia display) Maybe they'll have some good stuff there?
  6. Hmm interesting as it doesn't use soap or high heat. Approximately how long is a while? Couple hours, 15 minutes, a day? People were also complaining about mildew after being soaked, nothing like that ever happened to you? I guess if it dries on a paper towel it will soak up most of the moisture..
  7. It's been a while since this thread has been discussed. I'm hoping to reopen it to see if there's any updated techniques. I recently tried to iron the top sail on the BSB. It seemed to be a little cleaner after and a straightened it a little, but some of the thicker creases stayed. Most importantly it lost its stiffness. It's softer now almost like cotton, but when I put it back on it seems to actually look better. (I feel like it will sag more within the next couple days.) I think its because the other top sail that wasn't iron is still more rigid, so its bends seem more evident because it retains its "crooked" shape. In any case, I was hoping there was a technique to keep it still but make it straight again and get creases out. Maybe something like iron then spraying with starch? P.S. I emailed LEGO seeing if they had any recommendations, they seemed to send me an almost template response suggesting I order replacement parts. I guess they failed to realize I was asking about vintage sets :(
  8. ^ Good point, I completely forgot about the newer pirate stuff other than the New IFS. 6242 Soldier's Fort would be another example of a good set from that line.
  9. This ship is awesome! Looks like something that would actually be in production. I like how you used techniques from IFS but customized. I mostly love the color scheme.
  10. I wonder what the quality of those sails are... probably horrible... But if they were any good it would be interesting to get them as replacement sails for the original BSB. I agree these sets look pretty bad, but I don't think they're completely useless. After reading this thread I can see myself using it as a intro to MOCing (its hard for me to destroy my existing sets cause I'm pretty sure once I take them apart they'll never be put back together and I don't have an organized surplus of extra bricks) Basically if I wanted to try my hand at making my own ship I would probably pick up one of these sets and use the hull pieces, and once I had enough practice I'd use actual lego pieces. The minifigs would be good to experiment with decals also, basically anything custom I could see these sets being used as guinea pigs. *EDIT* Well I just did a quick search online to see whats up with this Enlighten thing. Found this on ebay and decided to buy it...(Kinda dissappointed in myself but for less than $4 shipped? Whatever..) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320708256803&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Figured 4 bucks was a small price to pay to get my hands on this Chinese knock off to see what first hand what the quality is like and to compare it to LEGO. Also like everyone else, I wouldn't mind owning that chrome cutlass and the yellow parrot.

Hmm didn't think of that, I'll find the instructions online and try to measure them. I thought for sure they were fake due to the differences in thickness but apparently some are supposed to be thicker than others? Thanks for the info.

So a while ago I bought the BSB off ebay. It came complete, and had shooting cannons. The only thing that troubles me is the rope. It came with 4 different ropes, but they all seemed VERY long, I had to wrap them around the flag, and hook, and anchor many times to have it fit. I started to think it may be replacement rigging (its not that a big deal because I don't really care if its original or not), the reason I want to know is if its fake, I'll cut it to size, if its actually real and should be that length then I'll leave it. I also suspect its a fake because one rope seems to be thinner than one of the others. So I was wondering if anyone had any advice on identifying if its real or not. thanks!
  13. Yea It sounds like your into the current sets, so the classic pirate sets might not be the best route for you yet. i definitely recommend the New Imperial Flagship, if you can afford it, I don't personally own the QAR but from the reviews and pics I've seen of it I still think I can definitively say the IFS is still WAY better. It'd also be pretty cool to stange an imperial soldier fight against an undead ship. If not then you're probably spot on, on trying out PotC first, then maybe branching out to classic sets.

After looking at the older pics of QAR I noticed they changed the minifigs from the prelim pic to the actual set. So hopefully the same will happen for Black Pearl, however the QAR pics had minifigs that seemed like fillers, so maybe not...

At first glance I said of course classic! But then when I really think about it, it's actually fairly close in my mind. I agree with what someone said on the first page its, like comparing Apples and pears, one is way too detailed, one is very simple. One is flesh, one is yellow. One licensed one not. Pirates have been around for something like 5 waves, PotC only have 1, so its hard to compare that. Still I have to go with the classics though, the PotC sets really don't have any appeal except the QAR and London Escape for the red coats. Its hard to buy them for the pirates because they are TOO detailed and don't mix well with classics. But I feel that when they continue PotC with more sets with possibly red coats/blue coats, possible Interceptor, even more regular pirates (not all main character figs) then PotC will probably be better. Until then, I say classic.
  16. Black Seas Barracuda (Can someone tell me the difference between the original and rerelease? Got mine recently off ebay) Caribbean Clipper Renegade Runner Red Beard Runner Cross Bone Clipper Brick Beard's Bounty Old Imperial Flagship New Imperial Flagship So far 8 but I got the Skull's Eye Schooner in the mail so soon to 9 It's been my goal to collect the 10 pirate ships, been holding out on the armada flagship cause I don't think it really fits with anything. Didn't intend to buy the QAR but after seeing the new movie I have a new appreciation for that ship. Will eventually buy it for sure, but right now I can't wait to get SES in the mail!
  17. Yea Mine are pink too, I thought it was just my imagination because of the pink or flesh heads. Didn't have the others on hand to compare so I just ignored it. Never thought to ask for replacements..
  18. YOu gotta be kidding me! THose look AWESOME! The cap stuff is absolutely genius, and perfect timing too! As much as I would want a complete custom minifig with the shield, I actually wouldn't wanna pay 20-25 bucks for it. So I guess I'll have to do it myself, wish that decal was available for purchase though...
  19. I ordered 60 from toys r us online and to my surprise I did NOT get a sealed box!!! I was talking to people on this forum and others and we were all in agreement that if you ordered 60 you would get a box (I also kinda wanted the actual box), although I understood the risk, I was still shocked to get a box in the mail with 60 packets thrown into it. I was kinda hoping they just took the contents of a full box and dumped it in, but these suspicions were ruined when I discovered THREE mad scientists. Heres what I got. 5 Punk rockers 5 Artists 5 Warewolf 5 HAZMAT 4 Soccer 4 Viking 4 Surfer Girl 4 Skater 4 Sailor 4 Frankenstein 3 Figure skater 3 Gnome 3 Geisha 3 Hockey player 3 Mad Scientist 1 Musketeer. Although it was nice to get 1 more HAZMAT, mad sci, and viking that I was supposed to, I was pretty sad I didn't get 3 musketeers.... and only one complete set.
  20. They only have 2 complete sets per box this time. I just ordered 60 from TRU.com, on brickset there are people who reported doing so for previous series and they got shipped a whole box. Even if I don't I'm pretty sure 60 is enough to ensure a full set, then just return/trade the others or whatever. I personally do not mind duplicates of the entire series so I'll probably keep the whole lot.
  21. WOW cannot even begin to describe how amazing that is! I checked out your others for series 1 and 2, Very creative! very nicely done! that's definitely the best display I've seen. You make me proud to be a LEGO fan :*)
  22. If I'm not mistaken I think those have been available for a while, except they could only be accessed by going through the "buy set" tab. Apparently now there is a tab for CMF Series 4 in the "buy minifig" section. Still I'm not interested in paying 11 per figure and then paying hong kong shipping here to the states, which will probably take at least a week, by then maybe the figures will be out somewhere and I'll be able to get them at 3 bucks. So I'm passing.
  23. SO DUMB! WHy only 2 complete sets!?!? This is probably already mentioned/known but in the review it says its the only series thus far to only produce 2 full sets, well series 3 fisherman also only had 2 per box but later they moved it to 4 fisherman and I think they changed the number of aliens to 3. Hopefully they do the same with this series, I would like to buy a box but not looking forward to getting just 2 sets...

Very nice! Thanks for sharing the experience with us! The fig looks very cool, and one of my favorites as well so in my opinion you were lucky to have gotten him. Interesting though, I never realized that he uses the elf hair in a diff color...
  25. Yea S@H usually sells out a couple weeks before the next series comes out. I've never seen two series at US Toys R us but then again I rarely shop at TRU. Borders I've heard still has series 2 and everything is being discounted cause borders is closing down. I think its like 20% off but they are initially marked up to at least 4 bucks I think. So if you want series 2 I would say hurry to borders as that is still a cheaper buy than most bricklink and ebay sellers. Series 3 you can still find at walmarts and TRU although I haven't come across any lately (again I haven't really been looking). Then of course last resort is bricklink and ebay were you can surely complete all series, but be prepared to pay a higher price.
