  1. Thanks to you both for your thoughts. I've started to tidy up the end of the room where Lego was piled. It's looking a bit better now and I'm feeling a bit better about it. I will just play around with building 1 thing for now. Just pick it up for an hour or so whenever I feel like it and see how it goes. Then maybe try to do some stop motion with it. Cheers
  2. I think I just need to gush a bit to try to straighten some things out in my head. It would also be nice to hear about other peoples' experiences. A few years ago now (time flies!) I bought a few jobs lots of Lego off EBay. I had a thread on here where I was seeing what kits I could find in one of them (it came with no manuals or list of contents). This was the first Lego I'd bought since selling my childhood collection in my teens (over 20 years ago). Since then I haven't sat down to build anything (other than a modular I bought new) and have been wondering if these purchases were driven by some kind of mid-life crisis. I think the 'need' for Lego is there. The idea was that I build things to help me wind down in the evenings rather than drinking a bottle of wine and watching films or playing old computer games. It's tempting to sell it (so it isn't cluttering half my office room) but then I have to come up with something else to fix my original problem re how to wind down and occupy every evening. I think I just need to take the plunge, sit down and build. It's been a combination of forgetting about it all from time to time, not knowing what I want in some ways (in and outside of Lego) and being a bit intimidated by builds I see and will never be able to live up to - or thinking some of the huge displays look cool but noting that I don't want to pump that kind of money into this. I'm making my peace that perhaps all that doesn't matter and I can keep this all to myself if what I build is an embarrassment. I think I'm starting to get my head around what I'd like to do. The Lego I have is: - A ton of Star Wars stuff (no figs) - Planning to sell all this as I have no interest in SW or spaceships and the parts are of that ilk rather than anything I might use elsewhere - A big box of classic space parts (lots of the space blue) - no complete sets but partial builds of big ones. Might sell to a classic space enthusiast. - Everything else I may as well keep if not selling as a job lot as there are loads of usable parts and its not as though most of the sets will sell for much. I have some classic pirates like the governor's big fort and the Dark Shark and Gov ships, Egypt stuff, classic technic, some city ships, Alpha Team and underwater subs etc, a police station and a little arctic vehicle. I'd definitely like to build a good cargo/container ship as I like ships. I have hulls and could work up a dockyard with crane and train using the train set (60052) I have. I think I might like to 'get value' out of what I build by making some stopmotion videos. That should keep me occupied and it might be fun to learn some new stuff. Cansee where it goes from there I guess. At least I'll have given it a decent crack of the whip. Sorry for ranting and gushing and thanks for reading! If I'm hangng onto stuff, I definitely need more drawers to sort it into. Better get onto that!
  3. After some amazing depictions of classic, historical US buildings, I had high hopes for a London Skyline. But no, it's rubbish. Just like the Buck Palace set - only worse. Come on! London is way closer to Denmark than America - why do you depict some of the most iconic buildings in the world so badly? Why does Lego hate London in minature form? Sorry. This set is terrible
  4. This is what is left strewn across the floor: I have sifted out the statutory pile of Mega Bloks and miscellaneous odds and ends that always find their way into the Lego box: There are quite a few sets I have most bits for like these: - 6879 Blizzard Baron - 6486 Fire Engine - 6771 Ogel Strike Commander - 6135 Spy Shark I've also got: 8226 Mud Masher with 1 wheel missing 8210 Nitro GTX with all 4 wheels missing! Some sets I have quite a few pieces for but many significant ones missing too. I don't have enough of the pieces to start building 8835 Cement mixer 6775 Alpha Team Bomb Squad 6847 Space Dozer - Classic space - definitely getting the parts for this! 6568 Drag Race Rally 6657 Fire Copter 6687 Turbo Prop (little plane) 6353 Coastal Cutter - I really want to build this too There is also a lot of technic pieces. I definitely have the 8862 Backhoe and 8044 Universal Pneumatic Set and 850 Fork Lift and maybe something like 8034 as I have tons of yellow beams. Even after getting most of that out (which takes about 10 1x4 beams) I still have about 12 left! For the Backhoe I'm missing one of the huge wheels (fairly important!) and a few yellow beams For all sets I need to order loads of black pins as there is a huge shortage. I'm only really bothered about building the Backhoe but its good to have plenty of technic pieces and some pneumatic stuff. Even after mostly getting the above sets out, I still have a load of technic bits left. Then there are the pieces that are definitely from only one or two certain sets - but are about all I have of that set Finally, my leftover pirate and space bits and bobs: That's probably a small injustice to Space - I have some yellow transparent bricks too I've even got spare jail doors (2), a set of grey steps and a rope bridge. They didn't come in many sets. So that's where I'm up to. A few more sets to come once I get some more parts. I think I'll then put them all together on the table and take a few group photos. I'm amazed at how many sets this box has given and lining them up will really show that. But that's all for now. Thanks for following along! :)
  5. This project is nearly done now. Although there is still a lot of Lego still on the floor, much of it is fairly generic so is probably from an old box of basic bricks and what more 'set type' pieces I have don't seem to match up into sets very well. There are loads of examples where I have identified some pieces that could only be from a certain set, found plenty more, but also found that plenty pieces are missing from the pile too. I've also found plenty of unique/fairly unique pieces where it's about the only piece from a set. Big ones. All other pieces missing - including about 5 more of the same piece! One particularly frustrating theme has been Classic Space. I was really looking forward to getting some sets out (especially after the Lunar Base) and I can see plenty of very Classic Space elements in the mix. However, all the time I'm finding I have plenty of elements but also finding plenty of key ones missing too. Like many Lego collections, this one must be a bit 'mongrel' - probably having picked up various random cast offs over the years. It is slightly annoying seemingly finishing when there are still plenty of pieces left, but I have to reclaim my floor and I'd be surprised if there are more than 1-2 old and basic complete sets in there. I'll probably sift out the worn/manky pieces and sort the rest by type. Future builds Where sets I've identified are missing one of two pieces, I'll try to get them. Otherwise, I'm only going to complete them if I really want to build the set. I've been compiling a list of missing pieces so I'll get what I can for the sets I want and post up the pictures. This won't be for a few weeks as B&P/PAB orders take a while to arrive. Before I start the "putting away"/reclaiming my room process tonight, I'll take some pictures of what's been achieved and what hasn't as I'd like to pull it together a bit before the final builds. Thank you for following along - I've enjoyed my first foray into this community and look forward to that continuing Cheers
  6. 6833 - Beacon Tracer 6387 - Turbo Champs Front piece of motorcycle missing - though I have the wheel with the different spokes 6381 - Motor Speedway - Cars only I have loads of pieces from the stand but not all by any means - and I'm missing some key ones like the baseplate..........more on this below.....
  7. Some replacement bricks from B&P came just before I went away - some were windows for this ship as I was missing quite a lot. Missing the masts, weights and some bits for the containers but nothing too vital. A lot of the bricks are showing their age and really need replacing. Once I decide what I want to do as a recent AFOL I might try rebuilding this a bit - maybe even as a tanker. Seeing the hull for this and the other ship in that box load were amongst my reasons for buying it. 4030 - Cargo Carrier
  8. Finally back from my trip and (for my own sanity) I need to finish sorting this box. I have about half the bricks for a decent number of sets and probably don't have all the bricks for most of them but I'll see what I can do. Here is an awesome set I have got out. Some bricks missing but not lots 6276 - Eldorado Fortress
  9. Thankyou for the replies. I'll see if I can find a Lufthansa plane and if the Brazil sets are being sold in Peru. Stash - If you can remember the museum, that would be awesome. I've tried googling various things with no luck. In fact, the top result is this thread on most searches!!
  10. Hi everyone I'm on holiday in Peru at the moment and wondered if anyone knew if there are any sets or figures unique to Peru. I ask because a friend went to Copenhagen earlier in the year and a department store (not the Lego store - that would be too easy) had rights to sell a unique Danish soldier minifigure. If there is anything similar sold here that I can't buy in the UK I'd love to know about it so I can buy it in Lima when I pass through on the way to the airport. Many thanks
  11. There are more sets in there but I'm away for a few weeks so can't make any headway for a while. I will carry on building and posting when I return!
  12. 6332 - Command Post Central (or in other words, a police station!) Lots to do and play with in this set though it took about 5 mins to build due to all the big pieces. I'm not sure it felt much like a Lego set
  13. 6274 - Caribbean Clipper Only really the sails and the admiral's hat missing. But most of it's there. My plan is to use the hull to create a MOC ship. Pirates were my favourite as a kid I'm building some bigger sets now - even if I am missing some pieces
  14. I like it too. I'm going to build an MOC ship off it. It came with 2 weighted pieces. I have a blue ship too - larger. It should have lots of weighted pieces but I only have 1 more in my big box :(
  15. What an awesome find. Love the classic space sets and the Shell
