[MOC][WIP] Nissan 180SX Type X
syclone replied to Gray Gear's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingOops, my bad, somehow missed the placement of the lock even though there's a photo of a real one above The idea with the "stickers" sounds great, will certainly add some character to the car! For the broken heart, perhaps one of these services like Bricksanity could do it. Interesting concept for the drift missile, can see a lot of personalisation possibilities there. Perhaps someone will even remove some panels to emulate one the more destroyed ones like Noriyaro's skyline))))

[MOC][WIP] Nissan 180SX Type X
syclone replied to Gray Gear's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHonestly doubt the leftover gaps could (or should) be closed - from the looks of it they are no bigger than those usually left in between panels, great work there Lights look spot-on, the fact that the rear section is curved makes all the SNOT connections even more impressive! The new sides look much better than the stepped look of the previous version, and follow the curve of the panels upfront very well. The boot lock is a nice touch , perhaps one of these with a silver 1x1? Or too oversized?

[MOC] Range Rover Classic
syclone replied to paave's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingGenerally reminiscent of the original, albeit will have to admit that imho the inversed panels and wheelarch elements... do not look good, with the latter being an eyesore. A "flat" look would´ve objectively been much better. Nonetheless, considering that the PF elements are well integrated, it is a good looking model overall (ignoring the aforementioned issues). Great use of the 2x3 mini panel as well.

[TC20] 8446 Monster Crane
syclone replied to Erik Leppen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFantastic base set, the design looks lovely indeed. Even though the tires aren't baloon-type, they sort of fit right being silver too. As you mentioned, the lack of green panels is dissapointing (but hey, we've got 50 shades of blue available instead ) but the solution looks good, the original wasn't exactly smooth too. As far as the additions go, the DBG mudguards look fantastic and "natural" to the model. I will have to agree with howitzer in regards to the blue seats, they look a bit off knowing the light gray originals. For the cockpit, the damper cylinder would certainly be better, but on the other hand it's a retired part, not sure what other's might think of it. Perhaps a use of standard springs as in the purple tracked offroader would be more "modern". Looking forward to this one!

Studio download
syclone replied to The lone cyberbloke's post in a topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and ProjectsI can only provide an alternative, but from experience, Mecabricks can be used on a tablet (within chrome web browser) , though I'd recommend an external keyboard and mouse, as otherwise it is extremely hard to do even the basic operations (it is possible, but spending several minutes to place a single part isn't exactly comfortable). Please note that I tested it on an Android tablet, have no idea whether Apple has any restrictions put in place for stuff like this.

42128 - Heavy-Duty Tow Truck
syclone replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWithout a pneumatics tank a bit less exciting, though hopefully this set will drive down the prices for the pistons and switches on BL, as it is cannot justify buying it due to colourscheme and the general shaping (thanks Void_S for the renders!). Also no B-model, so half the value (not to mention, the predecessor 42008 had one on top of a motorised compressor+distrubution gearbox!!!). Even an alternative build that'd keep the crane but had an EU-style cabin and two steerable front axles would've been nice. For someone who has crossed into the dark side, I'd need for the set to have a hefty (-40 or -50%) discount to consider it . Or maybe 42008's playability has left a huge impact on me. @Maaboo35 I'd say the renders belong here, as they have no modifications, but guesses based on pictures that do reflect the actual model. AFAIK the MOD topic is dedicated to changes of parts that we can see but don't deem good enough.

[TC20] 6752 "Fire Rescue"
syclone replied to syclone's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThanks very much for warm comments))) In regards of the 8280, somehow missed it completely while browsing bricklink, though seems that there will be a remake of it as well Finally found some time and made small progress: - Implemented V6 - Some side panelling - Ladder can be raised and rotated, has been elevated by 1s For the front wheels, the wheelarches seem good to me, although with small wheels Virtual Pivot Point steering could've been possible (and seems that Lego has used it as well, albeit not in Technic). The ladder is actuated through a mini-LA, seems as if will have to drop the idea of using pulleys for the extension. It is 6s wide as the original, widening to 7s on areas where support is required. Steering is to be routed rearmost of the turntable, rotation of which will be taken care of through one of the side knobs mentioned in OP, with ascension of the ladder using the one on the other side. For the front it is indeed hard not to make it a brick on wheels, and "macaroni" pieces look ugly imo. (small concept of the front in spoiler) For the stairs might need to use system parts or half-beams. The colour- pins will be replaced once model is finished, need to scrap some builds. Apologies for sub-par photos, progress has not been digitised yet. small demo of engine: Reference photo of original set:

General Part Discussion
syclone replied to Polo-Freak's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingjudging from Zusammengebaut pictures they seem rather small though. Funny how city sets also get the small tractor thread tyres, when licensed technic pullbacks didn't

[TC20] 8824 Hovercraft
syclone replied to howitzer's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe panelled look is better than just stacked liftarms imho. In regards of the fake engine, maybe you could move the #1 and #2 panels 2 studs backwards (onto thye other axle hole of the connector on top) and add some sort of grille to be able to see the pistons move? Also, if the panel version is kept, this bionicle wing piece might be perfect for front of the tail fins: Great remake so far!

Studio GPU Rendering with Amd GPU
As far as I'm concerned, the renderer works on CUDA which is a proprietary Nvidia framework, whereas AMD cards use open-source framework OpenCL. Unless the devs specifically introduce OpenCL rendering, your only option is to use CPU-based rendering or change to the green side.

Problem with M motor for steering
syclone replied to sonpham510's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingYou could remove the thermistor inside, but it'll just extend the working time slightly. Also 2 rubberbands is an overkill, 1 is more than enough. Nonetheless you're better off using a 4€ servo from Ali, it is much better than the rubberband and hockey spring methods. If that's not an option, use a downgearing instead of return to centre steering, like this (kudos to legosamigos on bricksafe):

[TC20] 6752 "Fire Rescue"
Originally wanted to rebuild 6484, but it had electrics (micromotor+flashing lights) as it's main attraction point, so witheld that due to "no electrics allowed" and went for a model I've seen in a catalogue from 2010 - the firetruck 6752 from Creator series. Image hotlinked from BL, not planning on buying the set. Functionality from original: - lifting of the ladder - extension of the ladder - rotation of the ladder - openable doors + interior (though the seating shall become blue like any true Technic set) Planned additions: - RWD - V6 - steering wheel (might include, current technic sets don't even have openable doors...) Progress: Scale stays the same, so wheelbase (19s) and width (13s) as well. Rear axle's a bit overengineered, but the 5L axles kept popping out otherwise. The engine is a bit tricky to implement due to the 13s width, but should fit tighly. In the original, none of the rear has any openable doors, but those two round 2x2 tiles can be a perfect place for some gears to actuate ladder functions, with the black levers replaced with gearbox switches. Steering column will be routed to the back, as the ladder would get in the way otherwise. Ladder extension in the original uses a rigid hose, this I will replace with a pulley system. My worry is that the ladder might end up 3s thick , which is not optimal, but right now don't see other way around. Screenshots below, built irl as well, but renders are better imo. 6752 model from "official sets made in LDD" topic in digital tools subforum. For today it's all, have a final tomorrow.

Brunojj1's mind-opener - red supercar - free instructions now available for static version
syclone replied to amorti's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingMy copy of the supercar only had one faulty #3 connector, and generally all parts fit well, not as consistent as TLG, but a lot better than on Sariel's review. Additionally, no differential grinding problem (although haven't done the crazy 4L motor mod), all gears rotated very freely except the 12T half gears inside the diff, which were a bit stiff. So it is very likely that they have updated some moulds, which is fantastic! Also the new tank from them has a micromotor in a 2x3 brick format with a bush-type axlehole at the end (here's their presentation video for it) ----------------------- The supercar in itself was a beauty, though my desire to reuse the parts and lack of display space for a 1;8 model have won over Looking forward to future sets like this!

General Part Discussion
syclone replied to Polo-Freak's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling3mm hose fits any bar sized hole shich includes inside pins and axleholes. Any connector can be passed through, even thin liftarms. Or system parts like these: Some examples of what I mean: Hence why I don't see any useful purpose in Technic of that part, since it would require extra steps to make it work AND that ring in the middle will prohibit ANY connections

General Part Discussion
syclone replied to Polo-Freak's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSo basically a glorified 3mm rigid hose? Also, that ring in the middle makes it impossible to attach a clip, so even less useful...

[MOC] Rugged supercar - Hammerhead (1:9 scale) - Revisiting
syclone replied to Didumos69's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFor some reason the version on the top looks very happy))) The panelled version in comparison to the Hammerhead IMHO looks sort of flat (?), but by itself looks quite good. Now I wonder what either the Hammerhead or this happy fella would look like with Defender discs and balloon tires hahah. What about 2x2 dishes/boat studs as upper headlights and keeping small 1x1 bottom ones?

Generic Contest Discussion
I believe B would be too limited scope, but A seems too wide as it is, if it were limited to vehicles, then it's fine IMO.

42110 - Land Rover Defender - MODs and Improvements
syclone replied to BrickWild's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingC+ = Control+ which is the same as Powered Up, except Lego marketed it differently for Technic sets. Be careful with servos from alternative brands as mentioned by GrayGear- most of them are "dumb" - they only go -90 , 0 , and + 90 degrees, whereas Lego servos and the ones from CaDa as well as some other brands have various positions in between those three, allowing for more precise control. This PDF from BrickElectronic explains it very well: https://brickelectronic.de/downloads/Brickelectronic_TechCheck3_en.pdf

42110 - Land Rover Defender - MODs and Improvements
syclone replied to BrickWild's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe newer BuWizz 3.0 supports C+ motors as well, so you could use 2 PF L or XL motors for drive and a C+ L motor for steering, or only C+ motors. Also be aware of how problematic PF servos are, so you might want to look into much cheaper alternative brands available on Internet, albeit don't know how long shipping to USA takes.
