[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi Nerdsforprez, looking at your pictures I noticed that you have a realistic looking wiring setup of the hook (multiple pulleys/wires vs only 1). Would you mind posting a shot that shows better that area of the build? Thanks Alex C

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThanks! - For anyone interested see posts #428 and #436. On a related note, Bricklink does not list any Tan Axle 4 lots for sale... are they that rare? I guess using a regular black one would not have any negative side effects except for esthetics.

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingGot that too! Hopefully the NXT-to-PF cables from Robotshop make it here as well! Alex, I was wondering why for the first drive assembly these 2 tan technic axles 4 were used instead of the tan axle 4 with center stop like for the rest of the drive assemblies?

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi ferindel, Thank you for taking the time to validate! I had a feeling there will be a couple of items missing and it is good to know that someone else has gone through it. Cord wise, I am not sure what the guys that have built this monster already have done about it but, most likely, I will be using a 3rd party one. Thinking very hard about using a textile fishing line which has a clearly rated capacity. I am actually planning to lift a good amount of weight with this crane... I have done the subtraction of 42009 from the total myself but I will need to make it home in order to check the numbers. It looks to be in the ballpark though! PS: my Firgellis shipped today cheers Alex C

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHello, Based on Alex's MK3 .mpd file I have created a BSX inventory file that I think should take everyone 99.9% there. The only missing things are the Firgelli actuators and the NXT to PF cables but, I guess if you are reading this thread, you know you need those for this version of the build In total BrickStock, reports 3600 items in 253 lots. I would appreciate if Alex or someone else who has done the build could have a look at the file shared below and validate it. http://bricksafe.com/files/maverick/GMK6400/GMK6400-Mk3_Firgelli.bsx Thanks Alex C

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi Alex, just wanted to say "Thanks!" for posting the final instructions. The amount of work required to finalize them probably was probably quite sizeable. Could you confirm please that the file GMK6400-Mk3_Firgelli.mpd from your Bricksafe is the one you used to generate the final version of the instructions from? Kindest regards, Alex C

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi, I fully agree with your stance Alex! If I am to do something, I would rather do it as good as possible than rush though it. Especially if it is for somebody else's consumption! I guess most of us here are a bit of a perfectionist so this approach can only help. Just secured my metal hook today and I am looking to get the Firgellis and the cables next. At this point, the thing that would be the most helpful is a proper MK3 parts list in BSX format or something similar. Patience is key! cheers Alex C

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi Alex, I just wanted to check with you if the GMK6400-MK3 (1).pdf file from your Bricksafe has been updated lately or it still the older version from about 3 weeks ago. I am slowly building up the parts supply as this build is more of a marathon at this point. Cheers, Alex C

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAlex, For the MK3 non-suspension with Firgelli actuators which mpd file(s) should I use as reference? The GMK6400.mpd from your bricksafe repository I think is the one with suspensions and regular LAs. I found a reference on page 18, I guess, regarding a file called GMK6400-Carrier-MK3.mpd but the link is dead. After going over the whole thing again I am now set on the MK3 non-suspension carrier with the Firgelli actuators and 5 unit boom. Thank you for all your help and support! Alex C

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi Alex, First, a big "Thanks!" for taking the time to reply! Indeed, most of my questions have been answered. The link for the NXT-to-PF wires is really useful as it will save me some headache. If you could load the the model on Rebrikable it would really help! My parts stock is limited as I am slowly getting back into Lego and having a proper parts list to work with helps as I need to control the costs for now (this is one expensive MOC!). No worries about the non-standard Lego parts - I know how to clean a bsx file if unknown elements are found during import. Thanks Alex C.

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi Alex, Thank you for the quick and detailed answer. I really appreciate the extra details you have put in. So, if I understood correctly the version without suspension drives and steers better! Now for the 1000$ question, could you share with us a parts list for the GMK6400 - the "non suspension / with Firgelli actuators" version. I have seen the parts list in the PDF file but I was wondering if you have a proper BrickStock version that I can import into Rebrikable as a Private MOC. It would help tremendously with planning. Two more questions on the Firgelli actuators topic - did you got the connecting wires from Firgelli or you built your own based on their instructions? Currently the wires seem to be out of stock. Second, have you got the "torque optimized" version of gearing for the actuators or the vanilla one? Is the "torque optimized" version mandatory for this MOC? I would also appreciate more feedback from the rest of the community that has built this amazing MOC! cheers, Alex C

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
maverick14 replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHello, I am following this topic for a while and at this point I am at the critical stage where I need to order the bulk of the extra parts needed beside the vanilla 42009. My big dilema here is which version of the carrier I should go for??? I have the parts list printed for the version with full independent suspension with 2x XL and 3x Large motors. I guess this is the list that was originally submited to rebrikable as the official GMK6400 mod - might be wrong though! Yesterday, when I checked latest instructions posted by Alex @ #497 I discovered that the full independent suspension is gone and the motorization has changed significantly and it now includes 3 x XL, 2 x L and 2 x Servo motors. So, before I go out and start spending quite a bit of cash, I would highly appreciate if someone in the know would comment on what is the optimal version to use at this point: with full independent suspension, without suspension with servo motors or maybe there is another one that I do not know yet about. In the end what I care about is how well one version perfoms over the rest when under load. I want to build a smooth, fully functional model. As a side question: did anyone yet figured out what is the max load that the original LAs can take? I am seriously considering the Firgelli actuators but, before going all in, I thought it would be good to check what the community here knows. thanks Alex C PS: just noticed that this is the the post #500 in this great thread. To many more!
