MOD: BR01-1075
Hi Lego Train 12 V, I just learnt about the existence of the original BR01-1075 from Teddy, and then about your replica, which also looks quite awesome and that I hence would obviously love to build :) However, it has been more than 2 years since the time you said that Toastie was going to make some instructions for it, and I still haven't found these instructions on railbricks. Do you have any update about it? Greetings, ferindel

Detachable gooseneck lowboy "Trailer Tr4 MkII" w. instructions
ferindel replied to 2LegoOrNot2Lego...'s post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi Ingmar, Congratulations for all this nice work. I heard of your trailer a few weeks ago from an AFOL from a French forum, right after seeing a video from a real trailer with detachable gooseneck transporting a huge haul truck. Since then, I was planning to build it, until I found out that you also designed the jeep and booster for it (actually, the trailer from the video had such a jeep too). After spending some time and money, I finally got all the parts needed to build the trailer, the jeep and the booster. So far, I've built the trailer and the jeep, and my Volvo wheel loader is now on the trailer. It was already quite impressive before, but it has gained some "charism" now. I'll be building the booster tomorrow for the family to be complete. These two "sets" are really incredible, and I'm quite amazed by the technological solutions that you have retained, particularly for detaching the gooseneck from the trailer. I've rarely enjoyed myself that much while building a Lego set. Once more, congratulations for this nice work, as I think that you must have been spending several hours on it. Any new projects you're working on which I may write on my TO BUILD list? :)

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
ferindel replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi, I was wondering whether it was really useful or not to get two 42009 mobile cranes to build the Grove MKIII. I hence made a comparison: with one 42009 mobile crane, as said earlier, 1458 items are required in 183 lots, for an average cost of $631,065 (according to brickstock); with two 42009 mobile cranes, 807 items are required in 139 lots, for an average cost of $510,408 (once again, according to brickstock). Getting 2 mobiles cranes hence allows to save 651 items and an average cost of more or less $120 (but you have to pay the second 42009, of course). As a 42009 mobile crane contains 2606 parts, it means that, at the end, you'll have paid an average cost of $631,065 for all the parts you need, but it also means that you'll get 1955 parts which can be used for other MOCs for a price which equals the price of a 42009 mobile crane minus $120. As a consequence, this can be interesting for people who want to get spare parts at quite a reasonable price, I think. ferindel P.S.: I can provide the updated parts list if some people are interested.

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
ferindel replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi Alex C, I checked your BSX file and compared it with the part lists provided in Alex's instructions. Totally, if I'm not mistaking, there are only 3 mistakes (out of the 255 lots, so very good job): there are only 14 + 6 = 20 black technic axles 4, and not 22; like I said earlier, the two 250 cm medium thickness cords are missing (I don't know what the length of the cords Alex used is, so I just considered that it is the same cord as the one used for the 42009... anyway, better have a long cord that you can cut if necessary, as it's more difficult to make a short cord longer); finally, you also forgot 2 tan technic axles 4. Here is the modified BSX file: http://bricksafe.com...gelli_modif.bsx. Of course, like you said, the 2 Firgelli linear actuators as well as the 2 NXT to PF cables need to be added to this list. Besides, here is the parts list after removing all the parts of the 42009 set: http://www.bricksafe.com/files/ferindel/GMK6400-Mk3_Firgelli_modif_without_42009.bsx. If I haven't made any mistake, anyone already having the 42009 should get 1458 items in 183 lots. ferindel

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
ferindel replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi Alex C, I have not built it (yet), but according to the instructions provided by Alex, I can already say that the two cords are missing in your BSX inventory file I have the time and motivation to check your BSX file with the instruction file next week, so I'll check if other parts are missing or not. Regarding the NXT to PF cables, I just want to say that they are no longer available from Firgelli or from the other website provided by Alex in his instructions. I contacted Firgelli to get information, as these cables were out of stock everywhere, and I was told that these cables will never be available again as Lego stopped selling them the parts needed to make the cables. For those who need these cables for the Firgelli actuators, the only way to get them is to make them by yourself. For that, you need a connector cable for Mindstorms NXT of 35 cm (part #55805) and a power functions extension cable (part #60656, as I think that a length of 20 cm is ok). The instructions to get 2 NXT to PF cables from these 2 are given there: http://www.legomindstormsrobots.com/lego-minstorms/lego-pf-to-nxt-cable/. ferindel

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
ferindel replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi Alex, I just have a last question for you (sorry for bothering you again): do you have the BSX file (the part list) for your last MKIII version? I downloaded the BSX file of one of your previous versions, and I was beginning to update it based on the part list included in your instructions, but I suddenly thought that maybe I was wasting time if this file already exists. Thank you :) ferindel

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
ferindel replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi Alex, I found my answer regarding Efferman's version. Actually, I was mistaking (probably because I was lost), as I thought that the superstructure of all the versions was more or less the same, and that the only differences relied on the type of actuator and on the counterweight. However, they are much more different than I though, and even if I prefer Efferman's superstructure (I'm sorry ), I don't really like his actuator. I was initially wondering whether it would be possible to use his counterweight with your superstructure, but it seems much more complex than I initially thought, and I think that it will be easier to use your version, as it matches the real grove quite well already, and as I trust you regarding the Firgelli actuators (even though I'll have to wait for a little while before ordering them, as they're out of NXT to PF cables right now). As a consequence, I'll use your final instructions for my grove. I just have a last question (sorry for bothering you again): do you have the BSX file for this last version? I downloaded the BSX file of one of your previous versions, and I was beginning to update it based on the part list included in your instructions, but I suddenly thought that maybe I was wasting time if this file already exists. Thanks a lot, and once again, congratulations for this wonderful work on the instructions. ferindel

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
ferindel replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi Alex, Thank you for the complete instructions. Regarding your answers: no problem for the 42009, I'll try to figure out by myself based on the part list, thank you for the explanation about the MK3 version, that's what I had understood, regarding Efferman's modification, I may have mistaken. Actually, I'm not interested in the superstructure itself, but rather in the counterweight that Efferman showed in one of his pictures. I'll try to figure that out. Thank you for all your answers :) ferindel

[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
ferindel replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi everyone, First of all, congratulations to all the people who have been giving so much time and energy to get such a delightful improved version of the 42009 mobile crane. As a Lego Technic lover, this MOC is one of the most beautiful I have seen; as a teacher having some good background in both mechanical and automation engineering, the power transmission is lovely, and would represent quite a good example for students. Regarding this current project, I am obviously willing to build this modified version. However, I have a few questions. Sorry if these questions look dumb (as a teacher, I’m used to saying that there is no dumb question, but well, other people may be thinking differently), but I’ve thoroughly read the 21 pages of this thread, and some things still aren’t clear: I already have the 42009 mobile crane. In many posts, I read that some of you were advising to get 2 42009 mobile cranes to get most of the parts needed to build the modified version, so that the few parts left can be ordered online separately. Is this really useful or not? I have understood that two versions of the carrier exist so far. One is the “original” one, on which each axle has its independent suspension; another one is the version with both the “normal” and crab steering implemented by gerger and proposed in post #292. I have downloaded the draft of the GMK6400-MK3 instructions, and am still waiting for Alex to finish his huge work on that. I would just like to know if the crab steering has been implemented in this version, or if the carrier only allows “normal” steering? Finally, I understood that there are 3 versions of the superstructure, based on three different types of actuators: the usual Lego actuators, the Firgelli actuators, and Efferman’s actuators. I also noticed that there are many versions of the counterweight, one of which looks particularly nice to me: the version proposed by Efferman in post #320. I would like to know whether some instructions are available for this version of the superstructure (with Efferman’s counterweight), or even for the whole mobile crane (carrier with crab steering + Efferman's counterweight)? Sorry for these simple questions, but there are so many versions that I’m a bit lost :) Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my post and for your replies.
