  1. Coming out of lurk mode for ~ years because holy shit.

What the hell happened to Luke's face? It looks like they based it off of the Holiday Special.
  3. If anyone hasn't seen it, I'd encourage people to see James May's Toy Stories- he builds a full-size LEGO house. It's extremely entertaining.
  4. Actually, apparently Filoni's wife just really likes owls. So, he designed Bo-Katan's helmet to resemble a barn owl's face. Pretty interesting that she also played Starbuck. Neat.
  5. I'm surprised at the amount of hate directed towards it so far. I can see the concern about gimmicks- while they tend to detract from the design of models, I don't really think that's the case here. Everything we see here is less a gimmick than a feature of R2-D2- similar to having an opening cockpit or landing gear on models. It could have easily been taken too far- a launching lightsaber or the radar dish, for example. These would have gotten in the way of the design of R2's dome. Personally I think they nailed it. As far as a free R2 minifig...hey, free droid.
  6. I was a Beta tester too, and this summarizes my feelings well. The building was clumsy and awkward. The game either needed to remove the character for building, or go to a style similar to Minecraft. The opportunities to build were too limited, as well. The controls for this game were also difficult. The camera was frustrating, and the combat was stale. The quests ran out too quickly, and all that was left was to smash enemies, which, again, was stale and unsatisfying. The strongest parts of this game were the art and the music. Gnarled Forest and Forbidden Valley were beautifully done maps. It'll be a shame to see it go.
  7. Speaking of which, there was a pretty conspicuous lack of other tanks. Personally I thought the giant lights were silly. In that fog the lights are worthless, and it seems that advanced as the Republic is, they don't seem to have any sensors, like infrared? Double blaster pistols look sillier and sillier. The series has been getting progressively more serious and grim. The clone's shouting was a bit jarring, making it seem like they were running into a paintball match and not a battle. As soon as that sarlacc-esque thing showed up, the clones went right back to serious and grim. From then on, the episode got progressively better. The ambush was amazing. Krell made a plausible officer, but not a plausible Jedi.

Happy birthday, birthday buddy! Hope you have fun! Go have a beer/cake/lego build/all the above. I'm betting you've already found some cool places to hang out in California.
  9. You like hats, don't you, Squidward? If there are any extras, I would be interested. But this is your thread. And yes, you are abusing your powers. If you can't get one, there's this.
  10. Try this. The official SW website puts them up about Monday. Problem is, the quality is never very good.
  11. Sharpedo used headbutt! It's not very effective... Thanks! The second link is great. I like the redesigns of some of the characters, especially the clones. This clip really shows the improvement of the animation, too. The character movements seem a lot more fluid and less awkward and robotic.
  12. It's always nice to have a certain other sci-fi show to fall back on. It seems bizarre to me that the commandos would get left out of the show. From what I've read, it seems that Filoni wants to put them in, but can't. They would do so well in the show, too. A large fanbase is hoping to see them, and they fulfill the special-ops role that has been otherwise played by regular troopers and, of all people, a senator and a clumsy Gungan.
  13. Some great choices here. Mine are- Firefly theme Big Bang Theory

SPAAAAAAAAAAACE. Has anyone seen this? Portal 2 orphan controversy Context is a wonderful thing. I might have to go back and play it again for that scene- as I recall, Wheatley completely bungles up that insult.
  15. irrelevant.... I asked him to watch how he words his opinions and pointed toward a better thread to continue the discussion here (thank you, by the way, for your link. I hadn't seen that topic.) How exactly is this overreactive...?
  16. Well, you're welcome to your opinion... But I would say that I thought Tartakovsky's version had more enjoyable animation. I thought the story was more interesting, and I thought that he did an excellent job in Anakin's character development. Please stop pushing your opinions around like they're universal truth, and if you feel that you need to talk about it, you can do so here.
  17. All right, I've finally joined. You can find me on Overbuild as "Accipiter."
  18. Man, that must be one hell of a nerf for Grievous. I really hope that at least isn't Jar-Jar. It looks like we're into Phase II armor. I'm not too sold on how it looks, though... take a look at Rex hiding behind the box. Weird. His elbow pads now fail to cover his elbows and his thigh armor now fails to cover his thigh. Huh. Although it's too hard to tell even in the starwars.com version. They really need to start uploading higher-quality videos.
  19. Mm-hmm. So someone stages an assault on Washington, D.C., and tries to capture the president. Only the White House is damaged, and the city is otherwise unaffected. You can't damage just the senate building. Even if it were only a space battle, there are massive pieces of debris raining down on the capital. Remember, the capital is going to be well-defended. There is going to be a sizable ground force on Coruscant, so a small invasion force isn't going to cut it. The Seperatists also have millions of droids. They can afford to toss thousands of droids on the ground to create a distraction.

Awesome. The lighting is great, and I like the uneven effect of the exposed studs on the floor. Although I consider myself a sci-fi fan, I still haven't seen Stargate.

Good start. Is that a guy in a wheelchair? If it is, it looks like a great design from what I can see. More pics, please! I suggest getting a Flickr account- the ability to add notes to a picture lets me point things out. It's great for WIPs. Plus there's also a large community of other really experienced builders (some of whom are also on EB). I like the use of three helicopter cockpits. Maybe try moving them up a bit so they're more prominent? A captain's chair is always a must.
  22. Watching the CW, I've come to think more and more that SW is a relative thing- it all depends on when you grew up, or what you read or saw before you saw the other thing. In this sense, it's better than real life. As the saying goes: "You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts." Except in SW, you are allowed your own facts. I think I've moved into simply critiquing the story as it is. I'm trying to critique the plot, the dialogue, and model design rather than the continuity of the shows. This show no longer really registers with me on my version of SW. Only the Sith deal in absolutes. I finally got around to seeing the last two episodes. So brace yourselves for: Mandy's* Minor Nitpick Hour! *hesitant applause* My biggest complaint here is that Echoe's death was taken too lightly. I wasn't expecting the Jedi to care, too much. It would have been a nice addition if Rex had taken Fives aside and given him some sort of consolation/encouragement, whether a few words or a pat on the back. The story writes have gotten into the habit of using non-important characters (ex. the clones) as disposable. They need to show the prison as scary and intimidating, so they knock off a clone here and a clone there. This has gotten to the point where I stop caring about the main characters, and focus on the minor characters. I'll pick a random clone (in this episode, one of the clone officers with a headset) and cheer for him. He made it! Yaay! The main characters now seem to be NPCs- non-playable characters. If anyone has played an RPG or a tabletop game, they know the feeling. NPCs are annoying, they get in the way, and you can't kill them off, no matter how many times you shoot them. The main characters- Obi, Anakin, Rex, and to some extent Ahsoka are this way. We know they can't die, and we know how they end up at the end of the films. Thus, there is very little room for character growth. Model design: Really, what's the point of equipping a gunship with giant headlights? They should already have lights, and even better- sensors. A turret ball would be just as good. Better. I also thought all gunships were airtight, but that might not be true. The only gunships I've heard (read. EU here) traveling in space were equipped with clones. With air supplies. Huh. All in all, an interesting plot arc, but not particularly memorable. It lacked the suspense of other arcs, like the Mandalore arc. I really wanted to see what would happen to them. Here, the outcome was never really in doubt. I look forward to the finale. Chewbacca! Retcons, ahoy! Trandoshans! *Shadows gave me this.
  23. They still make Internet Explorer? Try out Firefox or Chrome- you won't be disappointed. Get add-ons, like adblocker. You will never, ever go back.
  24. Nope. I prefer the phase I. However, the CW phase I troops look almost nothing like the movie...so I look forward for the chance of the animators to get the helmets more accurate.
  25. Thanks for the HR pics, Grogall! I wonder why TLC didn't add leg printing to Cody- they seem to have started with all the other clones. It would have been a nice little detail.
