DavSod replied to DavSod's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling@MaxSupercars: Yes, it's huge. Seeing it compared to something one could consider big make a difference @Blakbird: Hmm... I did resize them before uploading, might have to try another photo editor. Do I have to make any changes here or is a reload to Brickshelf enough? Edit: Just opened and saved them in Paint and then reloaded to Brickshelf, and there we go, right way up.

[WIP] Saab 900
DavSod replied to DavSod's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI'm happy that you like it. When I started building, the plan was to build the wireframe to get the right proportions and later build a filled bodywork. But, thinking about it now, filled bodywork with these large surfaces are a challenge. Wireframe might be easier, still giving the right form and at the same time show the internals. Hmm... Maybe build one of each, I might have enough parts for that

[WIP] Saab 900
With the great success of my TC8 entry, I finally got the boost to share this creation. I present to you one of my dream cars: A three door Saab 900. Still undecided on model year (pre-facelift 79-86 or facelift 87-93) and type (turbo, aero, etc.) It's been sitting on a shelf plaguing my mind for about a year. Sorry for the dust Oh, yes. It is another large scale build. This is done in scale 1:6,5 resulting in a length of 73 cm or 91 studs. The reason for the scale is that I like to use solutions as close to reality as possible. The plan is to build as many features from the real car into this model as I can make work (suspension, engine, gearbox, handbrake, adjustable seats, etc.) If it's not reliable or out of scale it might get skipped. It will be all manual, but I'm not sure if PF LEDs will be used or not. I might even throw in a 'big' surprise to be revealed when complete. This is very much a WIP far from finished, not sure how much of what you see here will remain in the completed MOC. Do not worry about it being all black, it's the colour of which I have the most parts, so it is the easiest to build prototypes in. It pains me to have to build prototypes in multicolour. At the moment I'm leaning towards a classic red but may go yellow depending on technique of building the bodywork. Maybe even white... or grey, hmm... so many choices Here are a few more photos and a size comparison with the 42039 Do not expect too much progress too soon, I am a slow builder. It took me two month, a year ago, to get this far! Questions and comments are welcome. Happy building, David

DavSod replied to DavSod's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThank you everyone! Sorry for the late reply, been busy with non-LEGO stuff I'm not sure if you got the size of it, but here is a photo with the 42042 for comparison Not sure why brickshelf doesn't show it the right way up. Anyway, as the plan is to disassemble it sometime in January, I wondered if anyone is interested in more details before then? I lack the patience to do anything resembling an instruction, but I will try to answer questions and take more photos if wanted. Happy building, David

DavSod replied to DavSod's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWow! Thank you all for your kind welcome and comments To get such positive response from some of the people that awes and inspires me. Hope I can inspire in return. Some of the solutions used is result of an over-active mind which can't shut down at night. Lost many hours of sleep before my mind went quiet. Just for reference here is a photo of the real cranes. The green was built in the early 50's and the blue in the early 60's

[TC8] Jerfeds Hamnkran
Hello everyone Having been a forum lurker here for many years, this competition finally gave me the push to get an account and share my creations. When the competition got announced my mind directly went to the pair of cranes from my parents hometown. The hunt for info and photos started. Living 500 km away meant visiting was a no go. Having no job at the moment meant building could be done daily, and that was needed. Just finished building today (yesterday, after midnight now ) panic to the last hour with delivery of critical parts was delayed until this morning. After photographing and filming this evening, I am proud to present my entry for TC8: A level-luffing harbour four rope crane with trimming grab in scale 1:25 The real crane stands at 32m at the highest point, this one is 1.2m The trimming grab works just like the real one. Two ropes for lifting and two for closing the grab. The rope drums are driven just like the real one, with a redesign to compensate for lack of proper planetary gears. One L-motor drives both drums while another L-motor only drives the front one (for closing the grab.) This part gave me the most headache, how to make it turn without cheating with driving the turntable. I knew the large treads made a good ring when inside out. I found out that 76 of the small treads fit perfectly inside a ring of 44 large treads. First try on wheel carrier design luckily gave the right angle needed, trickier though to mount at right position. Old 14-tooth bevel gears were almost a perfect fit against the small treads. M-motor used to drive the turning With third party weights not allowed, improvisation needed. Counter weight on the roof filled with 4L and 5L axles. 220g in just the axles And finally the video Hope you like it. David
