[moc] not-so-big blue (a.k.a. yet another rough terrain crane)
suffocation replied to suffocation's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAh, now I see where the pic can be deceptive. So, the connector in the middle is driven by an L motor in the carrier and delivers power to all the functions in the superstructure. The two tan 20T bevel gears are connected via a grey 20T clutch gear that spins freely on the axle connected to the L motor.

[moc] not-so-big blue (a.k.a. yet another rough terrain crane)
suffocation replied to suffocation's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThanks for the kind comments I first saw this in a build by Sander Mulders. For some reason the two gears don't always line up perfectly, so you need to fiddle around with them to make sure the combo sits just right and without any unnecessary friction. It's connected, via an assortment of red spur gears and another gray spur gear, to an M motor.

[moc] not-so-big blue (a.k.a. yet another rough terrain crane)
Hadn't whipped up anything new in ages. Was stuck on this thing for just as long and eventually figured it out in spite of exacerbating brain rot. Tons of room for improvement but a fun model nonetheless; always wanted a blue crane; and needed to get it done as part of a long healing process. Features: - RC drive (2 PF XL) with planetary hubs - RC 4-wheel steering (1 PF servo) - RC outriggers (1 PF M) - RC crane functions (1 PF L) through a two-way, five-switch gearbox - independent suspension - vertically mounted diffs for limited track width. Couldn't be arsed to cram in a fake engine or third boom stage. 'tis good to be a sloth. Video coming eventually.

[MOC] John Deere 317G Compact Track Loader
suffocation replied to Jundis's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWhat a beauty So many of the details are absolute class. And the fact that you managed to cram all those motors and functions into such a small yet eye-delighting package is astounding.

[CADA] CADA General Discussion Topic
suffocation replied to Milan's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHas anyone else had issues ordering micromotors from Cada? The first time, back in August, I ordered 4 and only got one; luckily, customer service promptly replied to my e-mail notifying them of the missing motors, which were delivered separately a couple of weeks later. I placed a second order including 2 more micromotors in October; when the order was delivered, there were no motors. I immediately notified customer assistance but, this time, have not heard back from them in three weeks. It's really disappointing.

[HELP] Generic Building Help Topic
suffocation replied to Jim's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHas anyone figured out how to use the 3rd-gen turntable with the smaller banana gears (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=78442&idColor=11#T=C&C=11)? I'm building a mid-scale rough terrain crane and can't for the life of me figure out how to set up an assembly akin to the one used on 42082.

Top-notch pics as always, Clive, and your storytelling always makes my day I do hope your hand has healed nicely and that someone lucky enough to live in Scotland can help out with the minifigs.

[TC25] Technic Shrinking Contest - Results Topic
suffocation replied to Jim's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingYou were up against some phenomenal competition, yet you still held your own. Also, I think you're losing sight of what, I think, really counts - how much you've progressed as a builder in the last couple of years. So chin up

42146 - Liebherr LR 13000 MODs and Improvements
suffocation replied to nerdsforprez's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAn RC distribution gearbox using three motors and the orange wave selector can easily run up to eight RC functions in pairs. For 42146 you could have left track/right track; main boom/secondary boom; hook/slewing. I guess the two remaining spots could be used for something fancy like a tilting cabin and an RC ladder - not sure they'd be realistic but hey, why let authenticity get in the way of coolness?

42146 - Liebherr LR13000
suffocation replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThanks, Igor! Yep, I hope it can at least lift a chilled brew from cooler to desk. Given the price, I also hope the counterweights turn out to be made of never-ending chocolate.

42146 - Liebherr LR13000
suffocation replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSince I have crappiness of the eyes and silliness of the brain, can someone tell me whether the counterweights are more likely brick-built or just big lumps of (metal-filled?) ABS?
