Infuriating Details
suffocation replied to SirSpoony's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingBack on topic, I loathe sets with a lack of functions relative to the part count - e.g. 42096, 42125 and many more.

suffocation replied to MinusAndy's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAs a fellow Brit I just had to laugh Anyway, it looks phenomenal. Still can't make heads or tails of what's going on - the build is far too complex for my CTE-riddled brain - but I love it.- Infuriating Details

suffocation replied to Maaboo the Witch's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWhy does 42116 get black bushes while 42131 still gets those unsightly red ones?- 42131 - CAT D11 Bulldozer
suffocation replied to Maaboo the Witch's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingGiven how they're marketing it (see the display-biased description on the website and the 18+ label) I guess their pricing is based on their "supercar logic", which sucks HEWGE.- 42131 - CAT D11 Bulldozer
suffocation replied to Maaboo the Witch's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingUpon further examination of the price in relation to the components, it can be concluded that the marketing department is chock-full of sodomites.- [MOC] Mercedes Benz axor CONCRETE PUMP. suffocation replied to Teh6's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingQuite a unique model and ingeniously put together - really well done!- [MOC] Rába 250 Tractor
suffocation replied to kodlovag's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingReally like this It's got an irresistible old-school vibe to it.- 42131 - CAT D11 Bulldozer
suffocation replied to Maaboo the Witch's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI reckon the four-motor-cum-gearbox approach makes sense for a bulldozer. You want independent motors for each track to handle the model's weight; the other moving parts are light enough to work smoothly with a gearbox and, in terms of play value, don't really need to work simultaneously. This isn't the case with the Liebherr: multiple sections of the arm need to move at the same time - and the arm is pretty heavy to boot. My only issue is the price of this thing and no, no amount of software, new moulds and licensing gibberish can justify the same price point as the Liebherr with pretty much the same part count but half the electronics.- 42110 C-Model: Helicopter
suffocation replied to Pattspatt's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingOh wow, can't believe I missed this the first time round. What a superb B model!- 42131 - CAT D11 Bulldozer
suffocation replied to Maaboo the Witch's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAh, I see what you mean now. Yes, that would indeed be the issue - with three motors driving all the functions, including drive (which in the case of a tracked vehicle counts as two functions), you couldn't move the blade while driving. I guess it's a solution that works fine with models where you aren't likely to use more than two functions at a time (e.g. tow trucks and cherry pickers), but becomes kind of awkward with tracked machinery.- 42131 - CAT D11 Bulldozer
suffocation replied to Maaboo the Witch's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingNope, you just need three motors for eight functions driven in pairs.- 42131 - CAT D11 Bulldozer
suffocation replied to Maaboo the Witch's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIndeed. I used this mechanism for my cherry picker and it works flawlessly; then again, the model only weighs 1.8 kg, whereas the CAT probably weighs at least twice as much.- McCatty_TECH Creations
suffocation replied to P McCatty's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSuperbly crafted. I love the manual drive & steering option; the pneumatic servo switch is ingenious!- 42131 - CAT D11 Bulldozer
suffocation replied to Maaboo the Witch's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe model's probably too heavy to work safely (i.e. parts not breaking) and effectively with that kind of setup.- Future Set Wishes and Speculation
suffocation replied to SheepEater's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSince TLG seem to have embraced remote-controlled gearboxes (see 42114 and 42131), it'd be nice to see them on smaller, less-pricey sets. I'd like to see a 42008-style tow truck with all the functions driven by a mere handful (three, I guess) motors and a deliciously complex gearbox.- 42131 - CAT D11 Bulldozer
suffocation replied to Maaboo the Witch's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingBut if there are four motors in all, with two for the tracks and one for the wave selector, that leaves only one motor to drive the functions, ergo only one can be driven at a time (in addition to the tracks, of course).- 42131 - CAT D11 Bulldozer
suffocation replied to Maaboo the Witch's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI need a new pair of glasses Damn, that blade is massive!- 42131 - CAT D11 Bulldozer
suffocation replied to Maaboo the Witch's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThese: I hadn't noticed them until Mr Jos pointed them out - I instinctively thought they were the usual angled 6x4 beams, but on closer inspection they seem to have a much smaller angle (not sure it's 90°, though).- [TC20] Technic Studless Recreation Contest - Voting Topic
suffocation replied to Jim's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe level of this contest is astronomical. Props to pretty much every entry. I guess I ended up voting on nostalgia. 33: 10 43: 6 18: 4 17: 3 35: 2 22: 1- [Building review video] 42126 Ford F-150 Raptor
suffocation replied to kbalage's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingReally enjoyable review - with your delivery you could talk about paint drying and still make it sound compelling. I wonder if there's room to rework the front suspension using the technique from the Grove crane. - MOC Fairchild A10 (WIP) pics added
