  1. This is why lego exists! Excellent... Just get a pile of bricks and make something up. The sheer joy of problem solving and creating something. Utterly perfect!! Please don't put it on a display shelf... make a V2 and a V3, never be satisfied, its the journey of invention and problem solving that is the reason for lego! Wonderful!! The best thread in months!!!
  2. Sadly you are correct and its leading to the death of technic. No one i knew as a kid ever built a set and left it.. it was 100% normal for 100% of people to make stuff up - long before it got its own label (moc). It didn't need a label because thats the point of lego. It comes to bits for a reason. The shelf queen mentality is driving lego's decision making - thats why there's 3000 cars released every year and its boring as hell. But it keeps the airfix-in-disguise assemblers happy. It was unimaginable that you didn't moc.. now it seems there's more topics about display options and plastic boxes to line up a thousand cars that are built once and never recycled into something that might be actually interesting. Totally Void of Imagination. No ability to take on a challenge, how can i solve this new problem? .... No need, just blindly follow the instructions, have no understanding of the mechanism you're building, then stick it in a display case... And this is why technic is fecked because TLG respond to this culture with a repetitive and dull output. Lack of imagination is a contagious disease and TLG are infected.
  3. They do!! And its the curse of humanity.. Just ignore them and do whats right for you. In all areas of life, including mocs and instructions!!
  4. Exactly, its as simple as that... not sure where the debate is? End of thread. There's nothing to be offended by. If anyone is, the problem is theirs... You're free to charge or not charge, entirely up to you. I don't see it as a complicated subject at.
  5. Wow, you do realise this is LEGO right?!! The mindset that its for a shelf is whats ruining lego... Its meant to be played with, its functions used and understood/learnt from and then taken apart and everything you learnt put into your next MOC. He's not the only one that cares. Builders care, Assemblers don't... If people remember what the purpose of technic and lego is and demand that in sets, then TLG will respond. If they think we're all just sticking them on shelves then they'll dumb their offerings down to suit. I don't want that and i hope the majority of technic fans are moc-ers that don't want that either and DO care If it really is designed for shelves only then shame on TLG and shame on the shelf-only assemblers (you're not builders in the traditional sense) for creating that demand - Diecast and Airfix will satisfy your needs.
  6. I have just downloaded a copy of this wonderful piece of work. Every time a clock is posted i always look and marvel, but limited building time means immersing myself in a complex area just isn't an option! However i now have a gateway into this fascinating area - thank you! I'm also really pleased to see the equations for pendulums etc.. Some i recognise from school, some are new to me. The learning something new is far more powerful than just instructions alone. Understanding (hopefully!) something new is what makes a day special. As others have mentioned, publish this. You deserve some revenue and recognition. Thanks again for your generosity and one of the most interesting posts in years!
  7. This is a complait about a problem that isn't a problem. Its quite the opposite. The peice in question, in this example, could have just used a standard lego piece... but it has 3 holes. 32034 has only 1. There are many times i would find the cada piece very very useful. Necessity is the mother of invention, and what we're seeing here is exactly that. Rejoice rather than complain. Its not quite Genesis 2.0, but more parts, more options, more fun building is the way i see it. ...and of course, this unique piece (cos it is unique), is useable in this scenario due to the other unique pieces - the 2-part frames. I think this is a wonderful expansion of options.
  8. Very much looking forward to this. Its great to see Ag getting the flagship treatment.
  9. That would lovely and save 2024 for me.. i'm currently very uninspired!
  10. Is this set a flagship then? Been working mental hours for the last 5 months so a bit out of touch
  11. None the less, it still sounds intriguing...
  12. I'm in the mood for a new set.. Being brand agnostic i looked at both TLG and CADA. TLG have nothing that remotely interests me. The Military crane from @efferman / cada looks right up my street. A proper technic build, no faff, lots of gears etc so this is currently No.1 on my list - and congratulations to @efferman on this set. I also want to ask the guys currently involved with cada, efferman and @eric trax, if there is anything in the pipeline they can share or hint at? Thanks
  13. I'm so uninspired by the 2024 offering i can't even name a single set!! Maybe there's an awesome flagship due that i don't know about... but it will be £800 so i wouldn't buy it anyway.
  14. Worded far better than i could - but i'm a developer so its not my skillset! I loved the comparison of assembly vs building, but what struck home was the quote above. I love moc's most of all, its 99% of my lego time and that quote sums up moc-ing perfectly, its a puzzle to solve. Its big fat 3d jigsaw with complex mechanisms and its all a mystery at the start, thats what pulls me back year after year, the challenge and the mystery.
  15. 'correct' in this context is subjective and your use implies your opinion the only right one. Errors in instructions are one thing and are clearly a problem, but the moans that i've seen have been around difficulty to follow... i'm referencing the latter. I prefer difficult to the TLG one's. I've built 3 cada sets and not really had any problems, admittedly not the hummer.
  16. Their instructions are fine for adults.. TLG's are aimed at 7 yr olds and are tedious. Cada's made me think sometimes, but how's that a bad thing? If somethings a challenge it doesn't mean its a problem.... unless you're gen Z!
  17. ..not to sit on a shelf gathering dust. It comes to pieces for a reason, thats the reason its designed that way, with no glue needed. Its immensely obvious its designed to be taken to pieces and other things be built from it. Airfix and diecast are for sitting on a shelf. There used to be a thing called 'Technical Ideas Book', and not one of those ideas was 'do nothing, just put it on a shelf' ! Isn't that the truth!! It does! I mostly buy new parts only these days.. like new diffs and gearbox parts. Brilliant for better mocs, soon as i see the parts my brain thinks 'moc'
  18. My upper limit is £300.. +/- 10%. Its a toy and i spend 99% of my building time on moc's. Flagships seem to be targeted at the people that build and put on a shelf these days, not old school build it once and take it apart for mocing... Its Airfix in disguise. Missing the whole point of lego.
  19. You miss the point - people are being forced NOT to buy it, despite wanting it. +1 A wonderful build and excellent finished model.
  20. I got one set at xmas and i can't tell the difference between cada and tlg. The parts haven't survived many years and countless mocs, so time will tell, but at the moment they're indistinguishable..
  21. Just as it should be, one community. Not us and them. If this is correct then its utterly disgusting. Who do Lego think they are? The show organisers should have shown some balls.. (or ovaries, don't want to be accused of sexism again) ..and refused Lego's pathetic request. The big caveat here of course is if its accurate, the way its relayed suggests it is, but... if it is, Lego look weak by their actions. They also look weak by hiding away. They need to win the battle of hearts and minds (and wallets), and these actions show zero ability to do that. Shame on them.
