Thanks for the ideas! Here is very rough red stripe sketch. Due to your great feedback I already made the torpedo launcher 1 plate thinner! I also removed 1 technic beam worth of thickness from the bottom half of the hull. UPPER IMAGE IS NEWEST VERSION: lower hull half is 1 technic beam thinner + torpedo launched 1 tile worth thinner

I'm trying to improve the torpedo launcher a bit. Currently I'm trying to get A type with slightly angular edges. I have two types of reference images: A Elliptical overall rounded type with two sub variations B "arrowhead style" (this might be from some toy and might not be accurate at all?) Below is the reminder of the current version: Below I used LBG tape to simulate round front edge of the opening. I am already quite pleased on this version and how it fits the overall shapes. Im real life this version of the launcher does not gather too much visual weight or disturbance. Below area without tape: Do you guys have any suggestions or ideas on how to get more elliptical overall shape? I want to have and remain the already accomplished concativity as well. :) Long curved slopes would do nice shape but there is no reasonable counterpart for the hull side of the opening. Thank you for the kind words! This forum adds a lot to the motivation! Thank you very much! Thank you! Do you see anything "off" in the dimensions with fresh set of eyes?

Thank you! I build iteratively with trial and error. First version might be cardboard to see roughly the shape. Second version studded or something rough to find out good anchor points and structural areas required. After these steps it gets nice trying to add more detail and definiton via each new iteration. Many times 3rd or 4th version is good enough and the subpart gets to sit for a year for maybe one more revisit :) Thank you for the kind words! Thank you again! Quick proportions check. For some reason I had totally forgotten about the proton torpedo launcher on the side of the hull. I placed this first version by eye. Looks like the launcher needs to be moved 1-2 studs forwards. Also the rear of the hull might need 1-2 stud extension.

Front cone acceptable. Might be improved and weathered later. Moving forward! Dont mind the clear tape which is curretly holding a few pieces together. This will be replaced by internal connecting structure.

Managed to fill engine rear surfaces. Quite tricky round and triangular areas. :)
  6. drakmin replied to drakmin's post in a topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thank you! The scale is pretty close to 1:9. From closer distance there is still a lot of redo work required to improve certain areas :)

    note wing not fully inserted...

Some progress with laser cannon housing. It has 3 pieces of Technic axles on top of each other to fight gravity. (though this limits a bit of detail amount I can pull off around the "heatsink" area)

Image dump! Remember to follow latest progress at my IG account: https://www.instagram.com/drakmin/ Engine rear section techniques. Coffee for scale. Old outdated technique was too angular. Beer for scale! Test assembly. Latest engine intake interation. Pretty smooth! Notice lower half slightly smaller radius and 0,5 stud inset!

Random progress. Dash rough sketch V0 Dash V1 Dash V1 Radar / weapon system screens are 3 tiles deep so I can place graphics in the mid depth Random New wing version to be tested. System seems more stable than earlier mostly Technic solution. Rough seat sketching! :D This will be interesting to solve!
  11. New photo of this old model. And a very small "making of" about soft light setup and 3d rendered background. Final image Screenshot of 3dstudio: original camera file is placed on plane among 3d mountains and scenery Another final image Cheap setup for soft light using curtains and daylight

New version for front 1/3 of the upper side of the hull. This technique allows for later changes / updates for the "paint job" / squadron markings. This solution will be easy to texture.
  13. Very good work and proportional accuracy! Amazing detail considering the scale. Loving the underside of the wing near engines. That "engine reveal" detail is very hard to do without causing the wings to sag.

Yep, I tried the cone earlier and found it hard. This thread has few photos of it a few pages earlier. A-Wing: Yes! Go for it! Drop me a message if you start build thread I would like to follow it. Also I would like to also build an A-Wing. Now that I have some experience on larger Technic models I have analysed the A-Wing to be the perfect challenge. It has very good cockpit detail to fusealage size ratio! Also it has very "solid mass" so you won't be battling the gravity in the build. The challenge will only be the curved surfaces!

Okay I will try to increase speed! :D Just finished first version of triangular surface beneath the cockpit window. Will do for now and if it sticks out later then it's time for iterations. I think next up is a better version of the canopy. I think I'll leave the front cone last it will be hard! Very small tutorial of the triangular surfaces.
  16. Hahaa! You hit the nail! Every new part released creates millions of new possibilites on how to improve an already designed areas of ongoing models :D If you are making a long term project one good idea might be not to look at new part releases! :)

Some progress on rear wall greebling. This was nice to build with trial an error. Minifigure hands and rigid hose seem quite useful combination :)

Haha thanks! I think this shows more of my hobby time usage than anything :D I think my progress could have been packed into 6 months if I worked on this model every day. In reality I think I have worked on this maybe once every 2 weeks. I have prioritized my work career and there the progress has been amazing! I still think I will be able to finish this X-Wing in my lifetime :)

More progress! Cat for scale :)

Hey thanks! Nice looking storage with clear drawers. I'd like to build / get led panel lights behind drawers to light up the part collection. Also center island desk: yes! My primary wish currently. I think I'll design and build one with wheels so it could also be moved against a wall. I'll post more renderings when I have first design options ready!

I have now modeled the new building room as an empty space from the drawings. Next I'll start designing building desk and drawers for parts. I should be moving in after 9 months :) If you have any good ideas or proved storage systems please let me know! View towards balcony. Right side wall consists of sliding doors, they have 900mm storage depth inside. View towards apartment.

Hey do you have already something to show? Update: New Lego room for late autumn 2021! The house is being built right now. It's time to start designing storage system, building desk and lighting! Room dimensions are roughly 3300mm x 2700mm. Glass starts from floor and extends to ceiling! Also here is the state of the X-wing and my part collection:

Hi everybody! I have moved so there will be some delay with any progress! But I will finish this model before I die :)
