  1. I love that you have a classic 4 wide town. A great era of Lego. For me 1986ish-1993 is the peak.
  2. Lots of great sets, I love the late 80s-early 90s era of Lego so much. I also agree with above posters about the quality of the catalog product photos back in those days.
  3. I really enjoy the 4-wide era of Lego Airports and I'm slowly collecting/curating old Airport sets I have International Jetport 6396-1 from my childhood and and I just picked up City Airport 10159-2 from a Facebook Marketplace purchase of $40 - i really like the aesthetic of the buildings and the main jetliner. The biggest problem I have with the 4-wide Airport sets is that every single one of them had different Runway baseplates (why Lego?!). This is incredibly annoying. What size did you decide to go with for collecting? It appears you use the ones from 6396-1 which seems like a good choice since it more readily provides the T-intersection.
  4. I used to memorize these dioramas as a child and pray for Lego sets. Looking back at my childhood collection I was quite fortunate. I will now spend some treasure acquiring sets that I missed out on during my childhood thanks to Bricklink.
  5. A few years ago I agreed with my wife of a $300 a month max budget. I often don’t spend that anymore, because storage and time also have limits. Now I’m enjoying restoring your classic sets and collecting old sets from BrickLink. But I won’t purchase hyperinflated sets like Emerald Knight. i plan to purchase unique and “special” sets primarily now, I.e Hogwarts Castle, Apollo Saturn 5 rocket, Ship in a Bottle are examples. And I always collect trains so I will be looking out for 2018 city train sets at deep discounts over the next 3 years. I enjoy technic, but I have a hard time justifying buying another crane. Most of those sets end up in zip lock bags in storage tubs eventually, so I’m trying to save money there.
  6. Thanks for your great review, My wife go the Porsche for me for Christmas in 2016. I have since built it 3 times, well, I have a few more steps to finish it tomorrow and I appreciate and love that set every time. I'm not a big super car guy, but I enjoy a great build and the genius behind technic sets. Every review says that this Bugatti is better than the Porsche, and that's great. The Porsche was great, so I'm excited to be building this for Christmas 2018. My wife already knows I want it :) P.S. Happy wife is Happy life.
  7. I felt compelled to log in for this topic. I left my dark ages in January 2015. I had just returned from a deployment, there was about to be a lot of snow outside, and I wanted to do something like build a puzzle, or, better yet I thought, build a train set on my floor like I did as a kid. And then I thought, why not make it a Lego train? I always wanted those as a kid and could not afford them of course. So I bought a Lego train set, the 60052 Cargo Train and built it and was amazed. The feeling of emptying a brand new Lego box, the untouched pieces free of oils and play wear. Since then I've purchased many great sets, available modulars, retired Maerks sets and Horizon Express. My absolute favorite thing, and I've seen many in this threat mention, was to pick up my childhood Lego collection from my parents house. I had many amazing sets from 1985-1996. Although in my opinion, the golden age ended around 1992. Basically once non-pirate sets had facial features outside of 2 eyes and a smile. I've since had a blast restoring my childhood Lego sets from Bricklink, cleaning them, and collecting a few that slipped through my fingers as a child. My first son is on the way and I hope he enjoys Lego, I plant to support his hobby :)
  8. I am not a huge Star Wars fan, just casual. In fact my love for Lego motivated me to look into Star Wars more. I think this is among my favorite Star Wars films ever. It's definitely in the top tier, far better than the Force Awakens which I liked, and now like less after seeing this way of doing it. Well done!
  9. I like Aanchir's take on this subject, Also, That brick built version of Eldorado Fortress is inspiration, sorry I'm not very good at message boarding. I love classic sets, and the concept of re-interpreting them rather than trying to absolutely replicate or purchase them is intriguing!

I've been putting together a lot of my vintage sets and someday will take pictures. It has dawned on me that 1984-1989 is my favorite for castle, 1989-aprox 1992 for pirates, and 1990-1993 for town. I have some sets from 1994-1996 that do not hold nearly the value for me. I may start projects where I complete some lines I started and never finished from those eras utilizing brick link. At this point it might be more rewarding for me to expand my 4wide airport than to ever start a 6wide airport.
  11. Cmay summed it up pretty well for you BrickOCD. At the end of the day you have to decide what $17.50 means to you, is it really a quantity of money to keep you from the set you want a lot and the risk of missing out on it?
  12. I just purchased this set.. I'm not even a huge Disney fan but I think this would lake great with a train circling around during the Holidays. It also seems like a set that will be purchased fast, scalped incredibly, and possibly very valuable in the long run. I could be wrong, Lego could be producing this set in enough quantity, but judging by how fast those Disney CMFs went, and how Disney items are highly collectable, I think this set might be scarce often.

I love it, 4 wide airport is the best! I have ZERO interest in modern lego airport and aircraft, 6 wide is just excessive for Lego scale when it comes to that. I just finished rebuilding some of my early 1990s airport sets and I still love the way the 4 wide jets look.
