  1. Hmm...yes... lucky for you. Those Nitro Race Team sets were my best kept secret for a long time until I shared it with you! Nevertheless, I would have never been able to collect for the Orange V8 without buying a few of them off ebay. And now I have the needed surplus of Black Friction Pins
  2. Did anybody else notice that there are so many parts there that he actually has spare wheels incase he gets a flat??
  3. Just ask Apple. Makes LEGO's deep pockets to fight look empty in comparison.
  4. Ok, I have stayed quiet because I didn't want go blowing my horn without at least a few "stats" After checking through my collection I can confirm that my complete sets are as follows. I have 262 complete Technic/Model Team sets Combined they total 221,542 parts. The interesting part about those numbers are that they don't include any of the MOC's I have collected for (Rosco's F1 cars are 15k parts alone), nor do they include my parts collection. I estimate that my parts collection is at least triple or more of my complete sets. I can say, without a doubt that my total "collection" exceeds 1.2m parts. Fun facts: According to brickstore regarding the complete sets: The complete sets weigh 262kg combined (no boxes or instructions) There are 3734 different lots across those sets There are only 13972 black pins (less then I would have thought) There are 84 Metallic Silver Large Wheels (used for Power Puller and F1 cars) Interestingly, the part-out value of the sets is 15k more than the actual set value Now, combining the few things I know off the top of my head combining my parts collection and sets I have: 54x Power Puller Wheel sets(tire and rim) (6 actually PP the rest from 8466) 66x of the 68.8 Model Team Type I wheel sets(tire and rim) (5571) 56x Black 40T gears 122x Red/Rust(they are the same) Engine Pistons 26x Buggy Motors 726x Black 1x16 Technic Bricks When(IF) I ever take the time to inventory my parts collection I will certainly post up some of the stats. In case your wondering?...everything is meticulously organized and only 4 sets are currently on display
  5. I am pretty sure there needs to be a "gods of technic" exclusion from that rule (or ambassadors ). The other problem (and this might just be my lack of knowledge of the BulkLUG) is that having the ability to order in bulk does nothing to the real crux of the problem. We need the ability to buy parts that SHOULD still be in production. I am talking about ACTIVE molds (or recent enough) which the part just hasn't been made in a certain color. I mean for gods sake who expected that in 12 years LEGO couldn't find a way to incorporate yellow thin 1x6's or #4 connectors. REALLY?? I am not completely crazy. I don't want the ability to order parts for dead molds or in Old Light Grey (although the collector in me realizes the obvious value). I just want to be able to buy parts that should be in plentiful supply. Again, why were the 5x11 panels in orange restricted from Lego Direct purchase? "Mercedes License agreement", give me a break, what does Benz have to do with a plain orange panel? I am pretty sure no one on this forum has purchased as much as I have on BL this year. This year alone I have fully collected for: Barmans V8 (My second one...this time with orange heads) Han's 6x6 Han's Lowloader Han's Snowgroomer 5571 Trailer MOC Jennifer Clarkes Baldwin Crane Jennifer Clarkes JS220 Excavator Pauls Vampire GT Splats Water Strider Jurgens Sunbeam Supercar Pauls White Gallardo (yes I bought those last #4 connectors last weekend) and of course Rosco's entire F1 fleet (all 15k parts) Of everything I just listed, the parts that should still be in production are what give the most trouble (and expense). Of course they all had rare parts (ok, not so much the water strider) but most were parts that have no reason to not be "active". None were more vexing then obtaining 16x 11L orange liftarms. Anyway, I think as a LUG (no matter how we are grouped) we should be able to have enough buying power to coerce LEGO into doing special production runs of rare active color and active mold parts. Even if we were able to get that to happen the world would still need people like Paul who have hoards of rare parts and freely give them out to anyone trying to build his models. I am here to tell you that the problem of rare parts is soon to get much, much worse. Exposure of these models and the know-how to build them is all it takes to put a burden on the available supply of any part.
  6. Right... this all makes sense. I know I have 7 19L white axles just waiting for someone to ask "can it be done in white" . Ha. Looks awesome though. LOVE those black chrome wheels!
  7. Can we please define "Lego Car Builders"? If you are talking about studded lego then you are correct. If you are talking legos (and thus technic) in general, then I think you are quite wrong.
  8. Again, Doesn't someone feel bad for the OP? Poor guy didn't know what he was getting into. Thats now 2 (3 if you count mine) that will exist before hes even checked back into this thread
  9. This is turning cut-throat. Now we all know why I didn't mention building Rosco's cars until the collecting was done. There were already some parts that I had to buy everything available in the world! Luckily for me.... I already had those white pins with bushes for Pauls car. I noticed they were a rare part and have purchased them any time they were up for grabs at a certain sellers store. With over 200 BL orders this year it wasn't too hard to amass plenty to make this happen. Of course the real victim here is the original poster who "innocently" asked if it was feasible. Not anymore!
  10. F$#K Here I finish the largest collecting project I have ever done and now I find something else I want to build. I successfully stayed away from Pauls Murci since it seemed like everyone had built it but now I am thinking I have to have this. I like the black roof, although I might just outline the windscreen in LBG and then keep the rest white. Edit: Or actually... just leave the black windscreen (like it would actually be) and do the rest white Render? ;)
  11. If the F1 car is really 57cm long then it would be around 2ft. That would put it in the same scale as the 1:8 cars. I don't see how they could reuse the standard 56 wheels again but it would appear as though they may have just put some thick rubber on those same hubs. I don't care either way as it means good things and hopefully some more panel colors.
  12. I have over a million parts in my "parts" collection and I can tell you that theres no one right way to do it. The best way I have found to explain it is an article that a friend sent to me that perfectly describes the situation with lego collecting. http://news.lugnet.com/storage/?n=707 That being said, look here to see a previous post on storage. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=64423&st=0/ Edit: Fixed the link.
  13. Do you know anyone that is familiar enough with CAD that could make the files purely off of pictures? Absolutely stunning model. My brother is a big StarCraft fan (not so much 2) but he loves this model. I of course love it for everything you managed to achieve and much like another builder named here you didn't bother to accept "good enough" when working with a particular design element. Seriously well done.
  14. I would be one of those who is interested. I tend to buy many bulk lots of parts. I have a bricklink store, I have sold on ebay and I can tell you that neither are perfect if you are just trying to unload some parts. The only parts I currently have listed in my BL store are new parts and despite pretty attractive pricing on some of the parts they aren't moving super fast. The only times things move quickly is if you are selling parts that are in HIGH demand ...which are typically out of production parts in odd colors. The parts you have would sit for a while since there are at least 20 sellers around the world who have purchased 40+ of those models and part them out for sale on bricklink. Of course the downside to selling to us is that on the face of it you may not get as good of a price...but TRUST me...its worth it to just dump them then wait around for months for them to sell at higher prices, and then to still pay all the fees. I would sell my entire BL inventory if there was an offer out there...just so much easier.
  15. Tell me all about it. 46 Orders in one day and about 65 orders total (so far). Its been crazy to say the least. Then RoscoPC had to release another one after I had already worked on the first 8....damn.
  16. Hahahahahahah... right... because needing two is hard to find! I actually parted out 4 of the 8473 (Nitro Race Team) that Eric is referring two. I needed 16 of the 1x11 liftarms for a project I am working on. Since building the Zorex is on my "eventually" list I also made sure to grab an extra 2 in the process. Its taken me 6 months to collect those liftarms. I was going to post a picture in a new thread showing my collection of these unbelievably rare orange parts. If you are wondering...the 1x4 thin liftarms in orange are almost as hard to find and 1x9 thick orange are even harder. Random side point... the other nice part about those 8473's is that they also have the second most qty of the black axle pins (21). Nice to have extras of those since some builders models have started demanding they be used...haha...I am looking at you Paul!
  17. So I got all excited looking at the roof of the crawler thinking that there might be a thin 1x4 orange liftarm. Closer examination and the reflection off the roof leads me to believe that its nothing more than a black 5x11 panel with a sticker. Bummer. I like motors...but I like a wider parts color selection better. Im that guy that would be happy to build YOUR moc...but I want to do it in a different color. Usually you are restricted to black, yellow or red.
  18. Whoa... that wasn't even me this time.
  19. Sariel, Am I permitted to use your "Its Beautiful" Cat picture on one of your own MOC's? It certainly deserves it. Last time you used it was for pictures of Blakbirds collection so this might be the next deserving recipient.

  21. Oooo I love it when a new "one-off" part is pointed out.
  22. Talk about a financially accessible model. For those who are curious the model has a 6 month value of just at 50 dollars. This of course assume you change the 6x6 dish to dark grey instead of dbg (thank you millennium falcon). I applaud such creativity for such little rebuild cost. I am guessing your first guy is about to have alot of friends in the water.
  23. Right, because before I sat down to mess with the legos I didn't already have a beer in my hand.
