42042 - Crawler Crane - Mods and improvements
nychase replied to kolbjha's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe only different (stronger) clutch gear that I'm aware of is the original clutch's that came with the barcode truck (8479). Instead of a DBG center they had a Light Grey center and had a quite a bit stronger clutch force. Unfortunately, these special gears aren't given a different part number in bricklink so its impossible to buy them on purpose...if you buy a bunch of used ones you might get lucky but you need to buy from a known old technic seller.

[MOC] Audi R8 V10 Second Generation
nychase replied to Fanylover's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingJust ordered the parts and instructions now. A GREAT starting point is an 8070 by the way...knocks out most of the expensive parts. I don't think it was mentioned but its up on rebrickable. http://rebrickable.com/mocs/Fanylover/audi-r8-v10-second-generation

[MOC] Audi R8 V10 Second Generation
nychase replied to Fanylover's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAre you planning on releasing the parts list on Rebrickable? Very difficult to find parts from a pdf list. Also, have you verified if yellow, orange and blue are possible?

[GBC] The Akiyuki Project (2010 - 2020)
nychase replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI vote for the changes you propose. Much better to have the motor not able to destroy the model. That being said, I plan on using Train Regulators for all of these models just as akiyuki did and I am pretty sure that would solve both problems. Of course, I could still use regulator even with the changes so no harm there.

[GBC] The Akiyuki Project (2010 - 2020)
nychase replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI was wondering the same thing....I have three different "beads" that I ordered just waiting to test it out.

[GBC] The Akiyuki Project (2010 - 2020)
nychase replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHate to be that guy.....did you give up on the elevator lift? Other than invisible and Basketball I was most looking forward to it.

[MOC] Union Pacific EMD SD70 Ace Locomotive in Lego (1:16)
nychase replied to Bricksonwheels's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFor what its worth....even if you did just the CAD and not the instructions I promise I would build it in a heartbeat. I think its just one of the most impressive models iv'e ever seen from a scale and detail perspective. Perhaps Ingmar can help you...ill nudge him a bit!

[MOC] Union Pacific EMD SD70 Ace Locomotive in Lego (1:16)
nychase replied to Bricksonwheels's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI just need to echo what everyone else here has said....that is absolutely incredible. I myself also love HO scale trains but have never been into lego trains in their scale. This, however, is just uncanny. I would love to see you make a steam loco at this same scale! Why not a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy? Or how about an E8 Diesel? And Eric....good luck building this in BNSF colors!

[GBC] The Akiyuki Project (2010 - 2020)
nychase replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAfter looking at this Ldraw....am I the only one thinking..."hmm...I bet we could easily add a second run to this same assembly to have two different tracks?" I know Akiyuki did that with his ribbed hose version but I can't see any reason why it can't be done to the smooth. The only thing I can think is needed to put the passive diverter at the top like Between min 1:05-1:10 of the link from before. Also, it would appear as though we HAVE to have the elevator lift (yes I'm aware there are plenty of other ways to lift the balls) for this marble run. Who's stepping up?

[GBC] Cardan Lift
nychase replied to torso's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingBut then you wouldn't get notifications for anything right? I have many items that have price or qty conditions that alert me if they are met.

[GBC] Cardan Lift
nychase replied to torso's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI wasn't clear about what I was hung up on at all but you answered my question perfectly. Thank you! I'm not sure why I never considered taking the raw xml data from the copy/paste and putting it somewhere else first to mass-adjust the flags.

[MOC] Ice Planet Elephant Transporter
nychase replied to KirTech LAB's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI LOVED ice planet! My favorite were the trans orange ski's but I think I had all the various models they made in that series. Love the model!

[GBC] Cardan Lift
nychase replied to torso's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingDavid, How do you do this? This is easily one of the most annoying aspects of importing the wanted lists from brickstock and I would love to know how to change it. Also, to stay on topic, I plan to build this...going to integrate it with the akiyuki stuff.

[GBC] The Akiyuki Project (2010 - 2020)
nychase replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHeres an idea, perhaps someone could give an estimate of how many LDU/studs/mm of total tubing will be needed and that will help figure out the double clip needs as well. I myself have been hording....I bought many of the longer lengths in blue and red a month ago but there are a few that are surprisingly available in decently long lengths. But again, I'm just guessing and will probably end up with way too much...but thats life.

Part Degradation over Time
nychase replied to nerdsforprez's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI can also confirm that buggy motors are the least problematic (no failures in 24). The bigger 9v motors are USUALLY ok (2 failures in 70ish). The older 9v (as pictured above) can have problems since it wasn't a strong motor to begin with so any additional stresses (from wear) tend to cause it to fail. The micromotor.....forget about it. I'm not sure why the guy above is saying hes had no bad micromotors but for me, at least 30-40% that I obtain are no good. There have been many articles about this particular motor and its foibles.

[MOC] Mercedes-Benz 300SL '54 "Gullwing"
nychase replied to Sheepo's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFor those who haven't looked this MOC is actually quite affordable at around $300 USD (including RC stuff). Also, there's really only one rare part in lbg (x44 like always) but could probably be subbed to LG with no problems. You can count me as a future builder of this!

[MOC] Custom Forklift Mk II
nychase replied to KevinMoo's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSince you made quick work of that any way you could post another photo and the parts list for your seat too. I can't resist the LPG mod and seeing the seat makes me want to do that too. THANKS!

[MOC] Custom Forklift Mk II
nychase replied to KevinMoo's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWait....what should I be using then? I did all that work on my many versions of Jennifer Clark's demag on mlcad. Also, love the model, just collected the parts for it. I liked it before but Blakbirds seal of approval pushed me over the edge.

Technic 8437 speed build/review
nychase replied to Richard Dower's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThis set just reminded me. Does anyone know how to get parts in bricklink changed? The reason I ask is because I have over 200 of the engine pistons featured in this set. On bricklink this set properly calls the color rust (which is what it is). However THIS set is calling it Red. Again, I have over 200 of these that I've bought in both red and rust and they are both the exact same color (rust). For that matter the other set is calling the crankshaft piece red too and again they were only made in rust. Oddly the Crankshaft center featured in this set is actually only red. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest, sick of spending years looking at people guess which color they have when they are both the same.

what is the most valuable Technic set?
nychase replied to Richard Dower's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAs an ROI if you bought 8288 new and sold it in the last 2 years it climbed up 10x in value. There is no other Technic set anywhere near that return. Yes there are more expensive (8275 is routinely 700 USD new) but it also started much higher and thus the ROI isn't quite as good. 8043 has been a shocking accession of value considering how it has very few rare parts (the panels are all that I can think of) and how new it is. Yes I understand some of the early expert builder series MISB go for more than 10x but considering how old they are very few of us here bought them new and still have them.

[GBC] The Akiyuki Project (2010 - 2020)
nychase replied to Blakbird's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingTotally interchangeable with This part. This is still available from lego (at least in the US) and costs 1.70.
