kbalage replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI don't have time to look for the magazine in shops just before Christmas, but I've ordered it. It should arrive sometime next week.

42201 Deep Sea Research Submarine
kbalage replied to Auroralampinen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingNo worries, I could easily be wrong, but time will tell. And you're right, the absence of purple since 42069 still hurts a lot :)

42201 Deep Sea Research Submarine
kbalage replied to Auroralampinen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThat is true, it is still speculation. But I don't recall seeing a small Technic set with so many recolored elements recently, especially to a color that was virtually absent from the theme before. We know the recolor slots are valuable to the teams/designers, so using them in an unlicensed set that could have any existing colors doesn't make sense unless those parts are planned to be used elsewhere.

kbalage replied to Auroralampinen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHe's younger and clearly has more free time than me, as he records the videos in both Hungarian and English :D My reviews are coming, a bit slowly but surely, have a lot of things on my plate nowadays.

2025 Technic Sets Discussion
kbalage replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI don't think they only do exclusive licensing deals, because other toymakers can have similar licensed products. CaDA released licensed F1 sets this year, TLG will most likely release the same soon. They both released cars with Pirelli tires at the same time, and both have Mercedes-AMG licensed vehicles.

Efferman's Custom Parts
kbalage replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI wanted to look at some of your parts for 3D printing and to my surprise Shapeways has apparently gone out of business and the website is down. Do you happen to have another repository for the designs or are you planning to sell them on another platform?

42172 - McLaren P1
kbalage replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI assume that they are not yet installed in the chassis at this point. They are supposed to be stacked in 8 groups like the V8, so I guess they are mounted where the engine supposed to be.

42172 - McLaren P1
kbalage replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAll the earlier life-size Technic cars had a metal frame for the chassis, had car wheels etc. The drivable ones like the Bugatti also had proper automotive parts in the drivetrain. Here's a screenshot from one of the videos shared by LEGO, this is underneath the LEGO skin. I guess we can see the non-LEGO battery and engine here too:

42172 - McLaren P1
kbalage replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingNah, they say "Power function motors". Honestly, I think this was written by PR people and they don't really know Technic, these can be easily Powered Up motors. Here you can read the whole press release if you are interested. Unfortunately there's no video or photo evidence of the exact LEGO parts used, I try to get some clarification but can't promise much.

42172 - McLaren P1
kbalage replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThis is what they have in the press release: The build features an electric motor consisting of LEGO Technic Function batteries and an electric car battery, allowing it to travel further than any other LEGO model before it. The LEGO Technic engine consists of 8 motor packs, each consisting of 96 LEGO Power function motors, which means the car features a total of 768 LEGO motors. The 8 motor packs imitate the V8 seen in the original McLaren P1™. I reached out for clarification but didn't succeed yet, they practically repeated the same thing. I have no idea what "LEGO Technic Function batteries" are supposed to be, but I think besides the 768 Technic motors they used a proper electric motor, and also an EV battery, so the heavy lifting should be done by real automotive parts. I highly doubt the top speed of 40 mph was achieved by LEGO motors only, the Chiron could only do 20 km/h and that had 2304 LEGO motors.

42177 Mercedes G500 4X4
kbalage replied to SNIPE's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingTLG is gradually converting its factories to the new packaging method, the plan is to complete the changeover by 2025. There could be 2 factors - the first is the resistance, the faster the engine, the higher the resistance will be in the drivetrain, and we've already seen the consequences of that with the Defender. The other could be a simple perception thing, as you can easily distinguish between slow and moderately fast than between fast and super fast :)

kbalage replied to SNIPE's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI'm sorry I don't have time now to take the set apart for this. I suggest checking the New Elementary article about the P1, you have decent photos about the part there. It is 7x7 modules, I think you can measure the position of sections based on that.

42172 - McLaren P1
kbalage replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWell, at some point you have to accept that LEGO sometimes uses Technic parts to make display models and therefore releases them under the Technic theme :) The reason for this is quite simple: a car of this size would be incredibly heavy (and expensive) if they made it mainly from system parts. These sets give consumers the illusion of building something functional and therefore provide an additional building experience, but still end up being a display piece. Sorry, I misunderstood you there. Pushing the car on the table works fine most of the time, even in the lowest gear. If you try to push it too fast, you may hear the clutch engage, but for demonstration purposes it is ok. There might be a scenario when the gearbox is stuck between gears, then you have to wiggle the knob gears a bit. The massive sag that occurs in older models like the Bugatti doesn't exist either, the V8 engages quickly and the effect of the gear changes is visible.
