[HELP] Which Technic Set Should I Buy?
peter_m replied to Siegfried's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHello amers! Welcome to EB :) 8868 is a great set to start your adventure with Technic - for some people it is the ultimate set :) The only drawback is that you will not get the idea of what is Lego Technic like nowadays - studless, panels, power functions.

Unimog for 14-year-old as a first set
peter_m replied to madjelly's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingTo me 8110 is the best starter set - it offers the fullest Technic experience: - it has pneumatics in decent amount - it has Power Functions - it has working suspension - it has a great MODing potential - it comes with big number and great variety of parts (good collection base) - it is a great display model (awesome aesthetics!) What is also important in your brother-in-law's age - it does not look childish while standing on the shelf and he will not be ashamed to show it off to friends with "we are so mature"-attitude. Also - I have tested the instruction on younger kids (10-12) and they did just fine (they just needed a little help with tubing) - so I guess you should not be concerned about that :)

[HELP] Which Technic Set Should I Buy?
peter_m replied to Siegfried's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingEveryone should have at least one 8258 ;). But you should not buy a new set. Just wait for a good deal on eBay for a used one. It is not worth $300 (even though it is indeed the best technic set ever ;))

8110 - Unimog - MODs and Improvements
peter_m replied to tripletschiee's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI think it will work - but Unimog must not have any heavy attachments and it will only be able to move on straight surfaces.

Thinking about purchasing a large lot of Technic elements
peter_m replied to Jullian_pdx's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling@Jullian_pdx - I'd buy the lot if I were you. You may always sell the PF elements you do not need (6 receivers, 10 m-motors maybe?) and get a lot of cash back. Great deal it is.

[HELP] Which Technic Set Should I Buy?
peter_m replied to Siegfried's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling8110 could be called an 'ultimate technic set'. It has great looks and awesome functionality (suspension? - checked, motorized functions? - checked, pneumatics? - checked). I think it is the best one to start your technic collection. It also gives a good base to start building mods and MOCs. Sooner or later everyone, who do not get it, will regret this decision :P 42006 - fun little set to build and play with - but not the best as a parts inventory. My suggestion - 42009 - cool model (not as cool as 8110 though, but I am Unimog fanboy ;) ), great as a part inventory (if you do not mind yellow). It is still available in decent price.

Can EV3 giro keep a vehicle level?
peter_m replied to JM1971's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingGyro Boy makes a great use of EV3 gyroscope - but keep in mind that it works only in one plane. With one gyroscope you will be able to apply only side leveling and you would need another one if you would also want front/back leveling. A better alternative would be to use NXT Accelerometer Sensor (http://shop.lego.com/en-PL/Accelerometer-Sensor-2852724?fromListing=listing) as it works in 3 dimensions. I am not sure though if it is compatible with EV3.

Illegal EV3 Education Sets (45544) on European market
peter_m replied to peter_m's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingBump! Since the beginning of the year I have sent 3 emails to already mentioned Lego EDU Senior Territory Manager for Europe - but I got no reply. I have lost hope of getting this rechargeable batteries in December - but I just wanted to hear any explanation - and they are ignoring me...

[HELP] Dismantle long time mounted Axles and Liftarms
peter_m replied to Kumbbl's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHmmm... I know that 8285 had some lower quality red liftarms - but I have never seen anything like this... Maybe this is not original Lego? Maybe it is some cheap Chinese clone ( http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=52834 )

[HELP] Dismantle long time mounted Axles and Liftarms
peter_m replied to Kumbbl's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAlcohol is ok (e.g. to remove stickers) but acetone - NOT EVEN ONCE! I had a similar situation and I used a bowl of hot water with dishwashing detergent. Plastic was a bit more elastic (because of higher temperature) and also a bit more slippery (thanks to the detergent). It worked for me. Also you will have a set of clean bricks - double win :)

[HELP] Which Technic Set Should I Buy?
peter_m replied to Siegfried's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling9398 and 41999 share the chassis - but the body is completely different. Also 41999 has lights and motorized winch (1 x m-motor). Maybe 9398 is not so beautiful but it still is a good parts' pack if you want to build off-road RC vehicles. Regarding sets for parts - there is also a separate topic with such information: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=87935 But I can personally recommend especially 3 sets, if you look for more 'universal' parts packs: 42009 - great amount of parts (wheels, panels, gears etc), good variety, L-motor 8110 - also great amount of parts, even better variety, hard-to-find parts (orange panels, wheels), pneumatics, M-motor 42030 - this year's flagship (not yet available) - decent amount of parts, decent variety, hard-to-find parts (bucket, wheels) - and huge amount of PF elements - few motors, servo, 2 rc receivers, 2 rc remotes
