LEGO Star Wars 2017 Pictures and Rumors
Reps from Hasbro said they have some special things lined up for the 40th anniversary in various interviews following their presentations at SDCC, NYCC, etc. No specifics at all. And, I wouldn't read a lot into it. Their focus is now on 5POA figures and out-of-scale, overpriced vehicles loaded up with Nerf blasters. There's very little left that is collector-oriented, though they've been teasing the return of the Vintage Collection for years now... my guess is that the 40th would be the optimal time to make good on that promise. But don't expect coordination between Hasbro and LEGO for the 40th. They've never coordinated before and they seem to be diverging in the markets they serve.

I would as well! Though it would need to include two pilots, rather than one. Have you thought about landing gears? I guess it doesn't really need them, but the original Kenner toy had them so I tend to think of them as part of the ship's design.

75138 is a nice enough set, but if you already have or are planning to purchase the Assault on Hoth UCS set, I don't think there's much reason to buy it. I have it paired with a snow speeder, Tauntaun, and a few extra rebels/snowtroopers from older battle packs and it makes a decent little Hoth scene. Note that the turret is nowhere close to the proper scale, but it is kinda cute... and I still prefer it to the comparably priced Carbon Freezing Chamber, which is only really useful for the Ugnaught.

Consider that as more and more movies are released (not to mention new episodes of Freemaker, Rebels, and whatever follows Rebels), the likelihood that any given set gets re-released each year goes down. My guess is that with a new movie slated for each of the next 4+ years and 2 animated shows on the air, revamps of existing sets will increasingly be tied to anniversaries, unless they're prominently featured in new movies/shows. At this point the only sets you can count on are another Falcon in 2018 (to coincide with the Han Solo movie) and

I wish I could be more excited for the set list leaked so far. I just don't see a need for another Landspeeder, Skiff, or Jedi Fighter, and the Duel of the Fates looks like next year's Carbon Freezing Chamber. It's a set that could have been really cool if it were 2 or 3 times as large, but from what I can see in the leaked photo, it's just silly. While I have a lot of respect for what LEGO is doing with the Star Wars license (much more so than Hasbro, which has driven its license into the ground) I have to question a few of the implementations they've done lately. I'd much rather have seen Encounter on Jakku and the A-Wing/TIE combo sets broken into smaller sets to fit the $30~40 price points, and then elevate Carbon Freezing Chamber and Duel of the Fates to more realistic environments like the Emperor's Throne Room.

In the U.S. at least, the UCS TIE, Sandcrawler, and Ewok Village have been discounted 12% at Amazon, Target, etc. since the beginning of October. If you're patient and persistent, you can find each of these for ~$50 under list price on eBay as well.

I just can't get into the characters. Hera and Sabine are fine, but Ezra is sooooo annoying and Kanan is such a killjoy. I liked the pilot most of all... it spent a lot of time establishing the storyline and universe through quiet, subtle moments, unlike the slapstick antics that came to dominate the show in the episodes that follow. If I see another Zeb/Ezra/Chopper Stooges routine I may throw something at the TV.

I think a second UCS Millennium Falcon is more likely to come in 2018 rather than 2017. The current Falcon will probably still be on shelves into the first half of 2017, and in 2018 we'll have the Han Solo movie, making a natural fit for it. If the second 2017 UCS set is a vehicle (rather than another playset), I think a Rebel Blockade Runner/Tantive IV would be a better fit for 2017, given it's the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, the prominence of the ship in Rebels, and even the possibility that it could show up briefly at the end of Rogue One. The Tantive IV was also a much earlier UCS set than the Falcon, making it more ripe for a redo.

I really wanted to like Rebels. The first episode or two had a great tone, but it went downhill fast (unlike Clone Wars, which for the most part got better as it went on). From what I've read, it doesn't sound like Rebels will be on the air past 2017, so LEGO may be winding down its investment in the show. I have no interest in any of the Rebels sets, save the AT-DP, and only because it was a McQuarrie/Johnston design and the minifigs are cool.

The Rebel Hanger was listed as a RotJ set up until about a week ago when the latest batch of 2017 set details appeared, at which point the Episode VI tag was removed. If I had to speculate, I'd guess that... ...and a Yavin IV hanger makes a lot more sense given its appearance in Rogue One.

LEGO Star Wars 2017 Pictures and Rumors
I am new here (be gentle), but recently began collecting Star Wars LEGO sets again. I’m curious what the gaps in the rumored 2017 lineup may end up being, and when all the new sets will be released. Looking at Brickset’s lists for past years, it appears LEGO usually releases Star Wars sets in the US in January, March, June, and September, or every ~3 months. For 2017, there is: 75144: UCS Snowspeeder (from the numbering I gather this was held over from 2016?) 75160 - 75163: Microfighters 75164 - 75167: Battle packs (2 for winter, 2 held until summer?) 75168 - 75174: Based on the leaked product shots, these appear to all be small-to-mid-sized ($20-$70) sets. The last Y-Wing released was $49, back in 2012, making this $59 or $69 today if the piece count is comparable? That makes for 13-15 sets so far (4 micro fighters + 2-4 battle packs + 7 small-to-mid sets), not including the first UCS set. Seems like a lot, though half aren't full sets... Is that a typical January wave? Or would some of these come in March or later? 75175 - 75177: I am mostly curious what these 3 might be, and when they might be released... March? With all the preceding sets being so small, wouldn't one or two of these be bigger sets, on the scale of the Episode 7 Falcon? It seems like an AT-ACT would be released fairly close to Rogue One, especially since it’s been several years since an AT-AT was on shelves. I also wonder if a classic TIE Fighter might be coming, given that shot of it in the first full trailer… but there is already the outgoing UCS TIE Fighter, just-released TIE-Striker, the Vader TIE + A-Wing set, and the Episode 7 TIE Fighter, which seemed to go on markdown almost immediately after it was released (much like the U-Wing). That’s a lot of TIEs... 75178 - 75183 : These are all named, but don’t seem to be that large, unless the Rebel Hanger is really elaborate or includes a ship, or the Quadjumper includes the Nima gate. Would these 6 most likely come out in spring/summer? 75184: Advent Calendar: I assume this usually comes out in the fall... which would suggest it is part of the next block of sets? 75185 -75192: Fall wave? Episode 8 mostly? Would the second UCS set likely be released here, or in the earlier group of 3 unknown sets (75175-77)?
