  1. You ain't going to like this, but isn't selling SW MOC instructions stealing from Disney? Or is that OK because we're stealing from a big corporation? I bought the MK set. Why? Coz I don't have the time to source the parts (plus the cost of rare parts). And yes, I also bought the instructions from Cavegod.
  2. There are a fair number of updates that I made to the design as I was building this. Besides the panels, part 30359b in Reddish Brown has only been in one set and prices are kinda crazy (~£100 for the required 11 pieces). 88930 is Reddish Brown is also in scarce supply outside the US. There are also a few things that are simply impossible to build - liftarms + technic bricks + plates + 3L pins. Unless you do some serious bending and forcing, these parts will not go together. (I can find the exact places if needed.) There are things that you can build better as you've got newer pieces available.
  3. The instructions already contain the motor placement for the interior belts. M-motor will do and you can run it off the same battery box as the ramp. (That's what I did anyway)
  4. It is an immense amount of work to create instructions on this scale. My biggest MOC that I've created instructions for is 2.5k bricks (so 20% of this beast) and after months of tinkering it's sort of finished.
  5. 4 of the XL motors drive the tracks. If you look at the instructions, you'll see that there's a hole in each assembly in the middle - that's where the XL motor goes. The motor is also used as a support of the 'side insert' of the tracks. Having said that, my opinion is that motorising the tracks is a gimmick. I have half built the model and found that due to the weight of it, it's next to impossible to turn with it on any surface that provides any form of traction. While it would work on the wooden floor (as the plastic threads simply slip) it would struggle on a carpet. 2 of the XL motors are for the front loading door. Not quite sure what the SM motor is for. I assume you need 3 battery boxes to power: 4 XL motors for tracks 2 XL motors for doo lights The extension cables are needed due to the sheer size of the model. You need one receiver to drive the L/R side tracks. Another one to control the loading door. The third one is for the lights. Part numbers: XL motor - 8882 IR receiver - 8884 LED lights - 8870 Extension cable short - 8886 Extension cable long - 8871 Battery box - either 88000 or 8881 (I'd go with the latter as it's using AA batteries, while the former is AAA)
  6. Great! I'll organise my notes in some format that's going to be understandable/clear for others.
  7. I am in the process of building the Sandcrawler based on the manual, supplemented by the digital model. Would you be interested in my notes I'm taking as I'm building? I have found that there're a fair amount of 'conflicting' steps in the manual; steps which should be in different order or would need a replacement part because it is simply impossible to build it. (This is not to belittle or criticise the work you've done - I know how hard it is to create a manual for a massive model like this.)
  8. Because it says 'Instructions' on the first page as opposed to 'Recommendations'. In all seriousness though, it is very hard to collect the required parts unless you start looking through the whole model, trying to figure out what's used where and is it important to match the colour. Or stuff like 'is it structurally important to have a 1x12 brick there or can I substitute it with 2 1x6s or 3 1x4'? With a smaller MOC you can 'digest' the instructions, see where the designer was going and put your own spin on it if needed. But with your Sandcrawler - well, it's in a league of its own.

Yes, the parts are non-Lego. (I wouldn't say 'knockoff' as there're very few parts with IP protection on them.) I have looked at building some of the large-scale MOCs and the time it takes sourcing parts it just prohibitive for most people. I have sunk about 20 hours into Cavegod's Sandcrawler and I am at about 20% part count. If someone would tell me that for £350 I can get the whole lot, then I would not hesitate for a second!

For what it's worth, there's at least one respectable seller, who only sells the bricks and has this notice on the listing: As it's a MOC set, difficulty 5 star, not suitable for new player. the instructions pls ordered from designer for support MOC. Here is the link: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-15881/onecase/executor-class-star-dreadnought/#bi Without original box, but we guarantee our products have quality assurance and nice packaging. As all the parts we have checked before shipping, so if you find some parts missed or damaged, don't worry and just pls contact us and we can resend them to you immediately for free. He's selling multiple MOCs (e.g. Empire over Jedah, Colonial Viper Mk2), supplied without instructions, with a link to the rebrickable page of the original designer.
  11. Is it possible to purchase just the digital files (without the instructions)? I bought the instructions for the Sandcrawler, but had to backtrack so many times using them that I gave up and now building from the digital model.
  12. Thank you for chiming in! I have taken some liberties already with the build, but I actually quite like how the panels break up the big surface. Might mix the bricks up with some 1x2x2 panels as they seem to be available at a reasonable price.
  13. Thanks! 50EUR is a great price. I'm in the UK, but used prices for 10144 seem to be quite high. Like £120+ high. Bricks and pieces is back online, but most of the panels in the required colour are out of stock.
  14. Yeah, that will be my fallback option. I like the 'panelised' look though. The search continues.
  15. Just started collecting the parts for this beauty, but looks like that the reddish brown 1x4x3 panel's price is astronomical. Any replacement suggestions? Checked newer moulds (60581) or other colours (i.e. brown), but no luck. Lego Bricks and Pieces seems to be offline at the moment, but a couple of days ago these panels were out of stock in the desired colour.
