[WIP] Nissan Xterra
VKTechnic replied to VKTechnic's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI've used a couple of those pieces already, as well as these: As for why the axles are blue, here's a picture of the XTerra I'm modeling:

[WIP] Nissan Xterra
VKTechnic replied to VKTechnic's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingToday's livestream showed some serious progress! Livestream 2 Progress! by VKTechnic, on Flickr Started off today by reinforcing the front end and building a skidplate. After building the axles in blue, looks like I'm out of 9L liftarms in that color, so time to order some more! Once the front end was done, I made a jig for the rollcage, which needed to be 22 studs wide on the bottom, and 15 on the top. A bit of fiddling later, and the rollcage took shape: Livestream 2 Progress! by VKTechnic, on Flickr With the rollcage done, I moved to the rear of the car. Chassis got some much needed reinforcement before the tire carrier could be attached, and I relocated the receivers in the process. Livestream 2 Progress! by VKTechnic, on Flickr Ended the livestream with a rattled brain. Since the chassis is an odd width and the rollcage is an even width (with doors on the outside of it), I need to figure out a good way to mate the two together. In the meantime, the only two attachment points are in the rear, behind the tire carrier and (nonexistent) trunk. Livestream 2 Progress! by VKTechnic, on Flickr I'll need to sleep on the rollcage mounting problem, and I'll hopefully have an answer by the start of tomorrow's livestream. In the meantime, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the progress so far!

[WIP] Nissan Xterra
VKTechnic replied to VKTechnic's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingDoesn't look like a lot, but I livestreamed on my Facebook page today and made some good progress. Progress! by VKTechnic, on Flickr In 5 hours or so, I rebuilt the front end a few times to get the winch installed and working, reinforced the transfer case, and got the majority of the bumper assembled. Going to be livestreaming again tomorrow, goal for tomorrow is to finish the front bumper, rough in the rear tire carrier, and start work on the roll cage that the rest of the body will attach to (the bodywork will be removable, so the structure holding the bodywork together will resemble a roll cage). Figured I should also mention that there's a looming deadline for this project. I'm planning on attending Bricks By The Bay (August 4-6), so this model needs to be done by the end of the month. A lot of work ahead!

[MOC] Jeep Wrangler
VKTechnic replied to Madoca 1977's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAwesome work as usual! I did a similar suspension setup a while back (also on a Jeep Wrangler, coincidentally), but I used geared turntables instead of links to do it. IMO one of the most responsive and simplest ways to do an off-road suspension, although not realistic at all. Also, love the way you secured the body with the runners. Might use that on my Nissan X-Terra

VKTechnic replied to efferman's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingBeen following this build on Flickr for a while, it's amazing how much you're squeezing into a tight space. Can't wait to see it start to take shape with real bricks!

[WIP] Nissan Xterra
VKTechnic replied to VKTechnic's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI know I said I'd have an update by the end of last week, but I really wanted to have a rolling chassis done before I posted something. Once I had a rolling chassis, I wanted to get the gearbox motorized, and before long I was mounting all the motors. And here I am now... XTerra Chassis! by VKTechnic, on Flickr All the motors (2 XL-motors and 6 M-motors) are mounted, hooked up, tested, and functional. This chassis drives, steers, shifts, locks diffs, and spins a winch motor. XTerra Chassis! by VKTechnic, on Flickr The one thing it doesn't do yet is crawl, and that's because the 16t gear that drives the diff is skipping. I've already got a solution in mind, should be a fairly quick fix. After that, it'll be time to work on the body. I'm going to (try to) do what I did on the Subarute and make the main pillars structural. One thing I'm unsure of is whether to include opening doors/hood/trunk, especially given that there really isn't room for an interior (I'll probably make the tops of the seats so at least something's visible through the windows). Let me know what you guys think so far!

[WIP] WV Golf Rallye G60
VKTechnic replied to miguev's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe dimensions were based off a blueprint, so yes the real car had roughly the same proportions. The prototype rear shocks did fall apart, but my final ones were much better made:

Generic Contest Discussion
VKTechnic replied to Jim's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingMaybe something like the "seed part" in Iron Builder? Something commonly found but not often used so it's easy to participate? Maybe something like the "seed part" in Iron Builder? Something commonly found but not often used so it's easy to participate? Ditto on the part limit contest. That, or a size limit would be a lot of fun.

[WIP] WV Golf Rallye G60
VKTechnic replied to miguev's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSuspension like that is totally feasible, did something similar with a Datsun 1600SSS rally car in the same scale. Here's one of my prototypes: Granted, I did take apart shocks to make this work, but it's not too difficult and no pieces are harmed. I've got an LDD and more pics here if you're interested. EDIT: I skimmed over the part where you mentioned 4WD. I'd be very impressed if you could squeeze that in at this scale, you're already packing quite a bit in there. Hope my post helps anyway

App for RC
VKTechnic replied to itoero's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingMy LG G4 has an IR port, I use it as a backup remote sometimes. I'm a fan of physical controllers, standard LEGO controllers are just fine for me
