[TC18] Peugeot RCZ lookalike
Soo with the Coronavirus outbreak and the requirement to stay home I decided to maybe give the TC18 a go. My idea was to build something that I could show and not be embarrassed. The starting point was a Boxer engine in a 'box' (four 5x7 frames). I added rear suspension, front steering and some body panels. This resulted in a kind of an open racer presented below. I am not really happy with the looks so I assume I will do a complete makeover, get rid of the suspension, and fake boxer engine to make it look more like a Radical

[REVIEW] 42096 - Porsche 911 RSR
Maybe the stars can be partly awarded for the way the functions work? For example the big Porsche had problems with the shifter paddles, thus the function was there, however not always working correctly. Bugatti has suspension problems, etc. In this not so beautiful model, the functions are basic but I assume they work like a charm all the time? there is no sagging suspension without rebound, no wrong gear selectors, just pure car like functions that work. P.S. @Jim would it be possible to put the big Porsche wheels on this model?

42078 - Mack Anthem
Qukie replied to AndroTech's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe Mack looks awesome. For me system parts make it look more realistic than it would with only technic pieces. Look at the front of 8109 it has a few system bricks and thanks to them, for me at least, it is the best looking of all the medium sized technic truck sets. Does it matter if they add piece count? No. Does it matter that these are not relly 'technic' bricks? No. @shimon great replica

42074 - Racing Yacht
Please note that the top of the sail in A model and B model are slightly different (there is a round part on top in the A model) and the photo of the instructions is clear enough to notice this difference. I believe these are the two instruction booklets for both models of 42074

Qukie replied to GiantAmbushBeetle's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThis looks great. Small and crazy fast. Maybe you could try to add another axle to the front to create the Elf 6 wheeled F1 car?

Do you have a pullback motor?
Qukie replied to aminnich's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI have about 4 or 5 of those from hunting down bargain used Lego sets.

Trailer suspension vs truck suspension
Qukie replied to aminnich's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIf you use the L shape beam 5x3 as the mounting point by the frame (instead of the 4x2) with the shorter part turned up and inward you could use them for effectively mounting the springs two studs further inside thus narrow the total width by 4 studs. Or you could use the current 4x2 beams mounted up side down and narrow the width by 2 studs.

Depreciation of Technic sets?
Qukie replied to aminnich's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFor me brand new sets give me extra thrills and certainty that all the parts are in perfect, immaculate condition. Including the instructions and stickers which I use seldom. But is it worth the MRP, sometimes no. The sets that I buy used I first disassemble, pack in cloth and wash thoroughly. Check the stickers condition and usually peel them off and clean some more. They are way cheaper than new ones and don't depreciate as much. Sometimes they even gain value. I came back into Technic after about 15-20 years of absence and am trying to piece a collection of the sets from the years gone as a way to fulfill my childhood dream so the only way to own most of the sets is by purchasing them used. I try to pick just the ones in perfect condition. But for a good deal I will buy even the less cared for and less interesting ones just for the parts and build experience. I know that if needed I can re-sell them with minimal loss or even a profit sometimes. This way the depreciation does not hit as hard as with the sets bought brand new. So what is the depreciation value of Lego Technic? That depends on how, when and for how much you buy and later sell your sets. It's just a matter of how much time you have and how much are you willing to spend.

Rebuilding the 42029
Qukie replied to itoero's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThank you @Void_S the 'double layered' hood is a result of trying to create totally covering the wheel well/ inner fenders. A bit like the black curved panels at the sides of the engine of 42070, even though they imitate engine covers. I just moved the curved pannel two studs back and believe it looks better and less like two layers of hood. I hope to share more progress once I improve on the front.

Rebuilding the 42029
Qukie replied to itoero's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSo after a few days I came up with a little mod of the 42029 like below. The suspension is lowered but retains a travel of 1,5-2 studs. In the bottom out position the frame is on the ground. The doors and the hood open but not the bed cover (not yet). Nor is it RC yet. I am not happy with the way the front looks like and will recreate it in the future. And a height comparison between the two. Also a little mod of the 8292 B-model with a better dumper

Rebuilding the 42029
Qukie replied to itoero's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI don't want to start a new topic regarding rebuilding the 42029 but I decided to build a second one using spare parts and modify it a little. Now I am at a crossroad and would like your imput. Should I put on the wheels from 42039, lower the suspension and do a lowrider truck: OR put the wheels from 8297 and create a sort of monster truck? Personally I was leaning towards the first option but after putting on those big wheels I kind of want to do both Later I will RC it for some additional fun factor

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Qukie replied to CM4Sci's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe tracks on the Claas look really great despite the yellow sides (would look better with gray or red ones). I assume they would look equally impressive on the 42029 Custom pickup to make it a trully custom custom pickup

Scale Modelling Forum needs your input!
Since this is supposed to be a scale modelling forum than the projects should mainly look like their real life counterparts. The amount of functions and their complexity should not impede their right to be in here. This is not Technic. The little Porsches look awesome and seem to keep very good proportions. Thus they should stay in the SMF. I assume they will not get as much recognition and praise as for example one of Sariel's tanks but they should definately be allowed a place in the SMF. Maybe a special 'Pretty Little Models' thread could be created for all the smaller models?

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Qukie replied to CM4Sci's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingDarkShadow73 if you have a lot of PF parts I would wait for the set price to drop unless you have a lot of money$ on your account Maybe try building it from your parts using the online instructions and if you like it then buy the set. As for the buggy motors they are these and they make RC models fast

Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Looking at the preliminary pics I must say that the sets look ok in an early blurry way. Although it looks a little crude the rally car is probably going to be the one I am most looking forward to because of the theme, wheels and hopefully good suspension. The fire truck jeep looks like a plus one to the 42068 set or a possible c-model. But the styling looks good. Catamaran and ferry seem interesting but due to the fact that Lego does not swim they are probably going to be a little short on playability. I have almost all of the pull-backs but these two look dissapointing in the picture. I hope they look better in the real life as those are always a good gift for my nephews. As for the Mack it does not look like a big set with 42024 / 8052 tyres and probably similar size. Hopefully it will be packed with functions due to its truck and trailer design. Maybe something will be PF driven or upgradeable.
