42110 - Land Rover Defender - MODs and Improvements
DutchChris replied to BrickWild's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIn my Landy it was due to the placement of the 4 u-joints. I don't mean the alignment as mentioned in the video that's posted a few times(you should probably do that as well if you haven't), but just pushing them back and forth on the axles a bit to get them in place.

Something you don't know about the LandRover Defender 42110.....
DutchChris replied to TheItalianBrick's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingCongratulations on the cars and the model. As soon as Hammond stepped inside and showed what it could do, I was sold on it. Great job, I hope they do well.

42110 - Land Rover Defender
DutchChris replied to 1gor's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThat green looks less offensive in their pictures. I hadn't expected that of the three big sets coming out 2h 2019, this would be the only one to get me excited. It looks like a proper Technic set with all kinds of interesting stuff to figure out.

42110 - Land Rover Defender
DutchChris replied to 1gor's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingAre those wheels 1/8th scale? I kind of like the look of the model, but I'm not sold on the colour.

DutchChris replied to JackBloomer5's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingYou seem to have set 42056. Part 18944 might be a good fit for the sides. Looks promising, following this thread with interest.

.
DutchChris replied to Paknaloid's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe downside of the solution mentioned is that it fixes the wheels together which makes the model very hard to steer. I've used the following solution which allows just enough room for the wheels to move individually which will let it steer normally. The short bush is used on the outside and allows placing the wheelhub.

[TC12] Fire Ant - One-minute pitch
DutchChris replied to Didumos69's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHere's my version, built from an earlier model. It's a cool little car. Maybe you can submit the different versions people are making as an ant colony

Scale Modelling Forum needs your input!
DutchChris replied to Milan's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThis is one of those questions that seem simple and get more complicated the longer you think about it. To me, the small Porches are definitely scale models, while the small models posted by @Didumos69 are definitely not. I think it comes down to whether I need to make a mental check if it's actually Lego or not. Or, worded differently, is it a model which happens to be made with Lego, or is it Lego made into a cool model. (Does the model transcend the medium or not.) Perhaps a tagging system could be applied, something that mentions scale and maybe whether it's a vehicle or a building for instance.

[HELP] Which Technic Set Should I Buy?
DutchChris replied to Siegfried's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThere's really not much difference between sets when it comes to the pullback series. The one thing of note is that they are released in couples which will make a third model when combined. You can't go wrong here.

42056 Falken Porsche Mod
DutchChris replied to Mirco Hussmann's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe trick to airbrushing, or spray-painting, is to use multiple layers on top of each other. It's pretty common to see the base colour through the paint up until the fourth layer or so. And Lego might require a primer for the paint to hold properly. That said, I think the overall result looks pretty good.

Aston Martin Vantage GT3 (instructions and parts list now available, thank you Thorsten50)
DutchChris replied to DugaldIC's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI'm not sure how it came across, but I certainly didn't mean to critisise the model. I think it's fantastic and I'll probably rebuild it with the PF, just to see it move. Also @DugaldIC & @Thorsten50, The black Flex axle in the rear window I've used is 16L and seemed to fit as intended. You'll need a few beside those; 3x 12L in Orange 2x 19L Black 1x 16L Black (probably)

Aston Martin Vantage GT3 (instructions and parts list now available, thank you Thorsten50)
DutchChris replied to DugaldIC's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingI've just started building to see how far I'd come with the pieces I had, I didn't really expect to finish it, but in the end it came mostly down to color substitutions and finding some alternatives for missing pieces. As you can see, it leans back a fair bit. My solution is to place it on a 1cm thick magazine which keeps the wheels on the floor, without straining the suspension. As it is, it will ride without dragging, but ground clearance in the back is <1mm at it's lowest point. This is the placeholder I've made for the servo motor, where the red connectors represent the connectors that hold the servo in place. The cog tends to skip when strained, but using a longer axle would clash with the connection to the fake engine. Substituting that axle with a shorter one and sharing the pinhole would solve that, but you'd have to integrate that earlier in the build. Regardless, steering the car from the steering wheel would be impossible due to the strain on the U-joints used. It would require modding to function.

Aston Martin Vantage GT3 (instructions and parts list now available, thank you Thorsten50)
DutchChris replied to DugaldIC's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHey all, long time lurker here, I've just finished building this without any PF or pneumatic functions. The servo motor requires a placeholder, but I've done nothing to replace the XL motors and had no trouble from that. For a truly manual version it would require the steering and transmission to be modded. As a note on the rear suspension, it is made in much the same mold as Didumos uses in his rugged supercar, and it needs all of it. I'd skipped the bottom torsion element, (the axle-pin connector) as it required more forcing than I could bring myself to, figuring it would be ok since I was skipping the PF elements. Unfortunately those things do not even out. The rear suspension needs all the torsion elements as described, or requires strengthening through some other means. Other than that, it's an amazing build, with some excellent panelwork. Thanks @DugaldlC for making it available.
