REVIEW: 30021 Creator Parrot
Set Name: 30021 Parrot Theme: Creator Promotional Set Piece Count: 46 (according to Bricklink) Price: ??? Resources: Brickset, Bricklink The last few years have seen a seeming boom in the production of LEGO promotional sets, although it has become harder to predict when and where they will strike. Will it be a Target Easter special in the US? A Daily Mail reader offer in the UK? A mini tractor at Toyworld in Australia? Some sets (like the Fantasy era Castle ones) never get made at all. Others (like the recent Castle Kingdoms one) arrive on Bricklink months ahead of the official launch of the theme. For OCD polybag enthusiasts, this must surely be a vision of hell. For those of us who like sweet little random surprises, it adds a frisson of excitement as a freebie or when making a purchase for something else. The 30021 Creator Parrot was apparently released through German retailer Tengelmann's - a kind EB member sent me the 30021 so that I could present you, dear, reader, with this EB Exclusive review! So let's get down to business: The polybag shows and image of the finished set: The rear view isn't particular spectacular: The parts are a nice primary mix, with lots of useful 1x1 plates, red cheese, 2 1x3 red tiles, white bricks with stud on 1 side... The instruction leaflet has a very classic feel. In a regular set, this would be a 16 page booklet The rear finishes the model and shows some ads for the January Creator wave: The first section to be built is the legs and lower body. Look at those teensy feet! That has to be an evolutionary dead end SNOT-work bulks out the tummy. The head is next to be assembled. Great detailing with the black 1x1 plate under the orange slope to keep in line with the black feathers below. Shake your tail feather! The final model. Great colours, fun little build, and quizzical expression. What a lovely promo! I like the yellow 'go faster' stripes on the back of the wings. It's rare for official models to look sweet from behind, especially promos! A side view. And yes, there is a play feature.... 'Freeze! Put your wings in the air and back away from the birdseed!' The wings spin on the half Technic pins. Cute touch. And indeed, this handsome bird is the star of the Prince of Persia Month Caption Contest. Enter today! Overall Rating One of the better-designed promos of the Creator line. It is certainly unique in not just being a mini-version of some other set - unless of course LEGO has a terrifying foot-high 1000 piece UCS Parrot planned for us With a great selection of new parts, this is fun and useful - and if you like the look of it, you can download the instructions (or follow the ones in this review) and build it yourself! 5/5. (With thanks to grogall for supplying the bird )

LEGO Prince of Persia Month - the Eurobricks Contest
You posted your entry before I answered the question Category 1 must have a 'main' image with just 1 picture of the overall set (for judging purposes). The other 2 shots can be made up of smaller pictures, but the total number of distinct images can't be more than 5. Eg, you could post 1 main pic, 1 alternate view, and a final shot with 3 small pics. Or you could post 1 main pic, a shot with 2 pics (eg showing a play feature) and another shot with 2 pics. The purpose of the three shot rule is to show your entry clearly with a minimum of images, just as LEGO sets generally are. It is not to cram as many small pics into one frame as possible to avoid this rule.

REVIEW 7598 Pizza Planet Truck Rescue
That is really confusing. I assumed that this would be a TS3 set since all the other ones in that wave seem to be It's like releasing a complete Indy: KOTCS wave and then sticking an Ambush in Cairo in the middle.

LEGO Prince of Persia Contest - Entries Discussion Thread
Great entry, brickzone! The dark orange does look very nice next to its more washed out nougat cousin You've used cloth parts creatively and the modularity feature is very much in keeping with LEGO's thinking. Solid building, amusing play feature - if there was a 'classic' Middle Eastern theme from the 80s, this would be one of the flagship sets! If it was official I'd be desperate to get my paws on it If you look at the rules, there is absolutely no requirement that Category 1 entries are based on any official license

Prince of Persia 2010
Thanks for the pic, Inky! Looks like a good source of those arch pieces, of which 2 only are in the Alamut set

Review: 30040 Atlantis Octopus
Thanks for the cute review! I do like the other promo - the mini-sub - a bit better, but this is a sweet little set for parts.

REVIEW 7598 Pizza Planet Truck Rescue
Thanks for the brilliant review, Oky Wan! I love the chunky retro design and all the great printed parts and windscreens. The shape is really original for an official LEGO model! These TS sets do go to show what LEGO could do with vehicles if they had more room to manoeuvre in terms of size and detail.

Prince of Persia 2010
It reminds me of that little 2003 Orient Expedition set, Tygurah's Roar. Thanks for sharing, Pi! I'd heard there would be a PoP BM set but this is better than expected

Prince of Persia 2010
There's nothing wrong with it at all. I think it's brilliant! It's just quite a turnabout in the way things have been handled in the last few years where very few pieces have been printed - eg in SW, the slopes in Ahsoka's Starfighter and the Tantive IV parts a rare exception. Especially things like tiles and number plates almost never get printed normally. I hope this trend continues! Maybe LEGO invested in some new brick printing machines, or something? It is weird though when you look forward to Harry Potter in October and almost every part in those sets is stickered. Maybe the alternate explanation is that market research shows kids hate stickers and find them difficult to apply. Honestly, I'm really not sure what the reason is.

LEGO Prince of Persia Month - the Caption Contest
Some hilarious entries so far, keep 'em coming!

Prince of Persia 2010
Yes; it just goes to show what you can do with a well-designed theme and great parts selection. It's funny TLG has gone all out on printing with TS3 sets like Pizza Planet Express, though I'm not sure... the pearl gold scorpion is only in 1 set so it hardly seems emblematic. The colour scheme of the Alamut soldiers seems dark red which is a nice contrast to the sandy, desert colours of the rest of the theme... I'd probably try for something with a dark red touch just for contrast.

LEGO Prince of Persia Month - the Eurobricks Contest
The animal is not a minifig. The only exception is for minifig accessories or parts connected to figs. The point of the rule is for people not to worry too much about figs or parts that figs are holding in terms of the maximum piece count - NOT to invent elaborate connections between figs and the rest of the entry to get round the piece count restriction.

I like that LEGO S@H is finally doing some free shipping offers for us Aussies I wonder if sales are down this year? The start of year range was sort of lacklustre.
