  1. Well, it's not impossible - who would have picked we'd be getting a medieval Arabic theme in the guise of Prince of Persia? But this is the crux of it - Licenses are designed to be disposable yet huge events, so any licensed Western theme would be a limited number of sets for a short term release. If Pirates really was bumped to make way for a possible POTC licence, then it would lend support to the idea of LEGO being willing to revive dormant themes if they are confident enough that there is a license to support them and they'll sell like hotcakes on the back of this year's event movie - whatever that might be. I personally think this model is much more likely than the revival of a purely historical theme over the long term.
  2. Not every idea will be to everyone's taste, but this is an AFOL site - emphasis on 'Adult' - so let's all behave like grown-ups. Tasteful or not, the figure of the 'serial killer' is a popular one in fiction and open to discussion. However it doesn't really fit as a 'Licensed' theme so I don't think there's much to add. Thanks!
  3. Cafe Corner was always $AUD249.99 right from the start but Green Grocer was $AUD149.99 for about a week (obvious listing error on S@H). That said, I wouldn't be surprised if someone notices the price discrepancy and it does get upped at some point (probably along with the Flagship) to $AUD299.99. To be fair, a lot of these weird S@H price increases seem to coincide with retailers here lining up Exclusives for their big sales where LEGO prices in the discount. (Stores seem to like nice round fat numbers like $299.99 rather than odd ones like $279.99).
  4. Grand Emporium is up at S@H - for the price of AUD249.99 http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=10211 I can't keep track of LEGO's weird pricing system!
  5. When asking these sorts of questions, you should specify which country or market you are referring to. If you are in the US, Lavatraz is scheduled for an August release, as shown in the Toy Fair pics. http://www.flickr.com/photos/fbtbnet/4357336835/
  6. Great topic! The tendency to go bigger, bigger, bigger seems everywhere in LEGO, whether it's door parts or Star Wars helmets This isn't always a good thing. I can see that LEGO wanted to make a useful system for doors and window parts - ie the 2x2 glass fits in airplane windows as well as ordinary windows, and the 1x4x6 pane fits glass, trans clear doors and the new door piece all in one - but I have a few issues with the new piece 1) It feels cheap compared to the older door pieces, and tends to flop around loosely in the frame - it doesn't 'stay closed' like the older piece 2) The use of a 1x1 round plate as a doorknob in order to open the door - when previously a dextrously applied fingernail would do - rarely looks aesthetically appropriate. 3) You also get a problem where a set of double doors which should open cleanly end up bounded by ugly frames in the middle where there should be empty space: Comparing different versions of the Krusty Krab displays these problems: To me, the original version is better - the doors are a better height for the scale of the set overall and they open properly. The minifigs can go through the centre rather than through some airport-security looking device I also don't like the proportions of the 6754 Family Home, but I don't have issues with the door - more with the stupidly large window shutters which means that the windows in this set, when open, are 4 studs high and over 8 studs wide when extended A really, really design. Thankfully with 7594 Woody's Round-Up they used this piece properly - as a bar door - but I really dislike that this hideous part is the new standard window shutter. It seems intrinsically wrong that the standard window shutter is now only 1 stud lower than the previous 1x4x5 door size. As we have seen in the 2010 lineup, it looks like the old classic castle door is going in the same direction - small click connection points replaced by 1x1 click hinges - so it looks as if the small and subtlte connections are a thing of the past
  7. You know what I fear most? That the Licensed forum will fill up with spammy 'Worst of' topics like Star Wars already has. 'What's the worst set?' 'What's the worst minifig?' 'What was the worst year for [insert name of license]?' blah blah blah. It's already gone off-topic in the first reply with brickme naming a License that already exists, so I'm locking this. And please refrain from posting more 'worst of' type topics. Thanks.
  8. Oky Wan is correct - the Licensed forum is for *officially* Licensed themes, not dream ones - no matter how cool they would be Nice idea with the cheese!

The answers you seek can be found on Bricklink: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?c...=&catLike=L You can refine your search by adding in the set numbers and also view a price guide for the last 6 months.
  10. Moved to Buy, Sell Trade and Find and locked! Are you sure this needed a whole topic to itself? If we had a topic for every 'good deal' that came up the forum would be overrun. This still has 9 days to run so isn't exactly indicative of anything. If you are spruiking your own sale then we obviously frown on such behaviour if you are pretending its a referral to someone else. You can start your own topic for sales within BSTF. In any case, the topic is now locked. Please post more thoughtfully in future.

Welcome to EB! Please review the Site Guidelines below for image size specifications - 2000+ pixels wide each is just too big! http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18718 Resize your images and then you can go back and edit your first post with deeplinks again. Thanks!

  15. Thanks for the clearer pics. You can also see the plastic of the new fig doesn't have the solidity and lustre as the old fig does.
  16. There's a whole topic for general quality discussions; let's limit this thread to the original poster's intention, thanks. See? - I'm smart *and* wise
  17. Sadly the pics aren't showing up for me Are you sure your links are OK? Too bad to hear they're Chinese figs but no surprises there.

Not since the new style of magnet sets with detachable figs was introduced in Jan 09.

Interesting news and this will push down the price of the LGM a little! Oky Wan and Pi, I've updated the first post and given you credit
  20. Fixed! Lovely review and so nice to open one MISB! Thanks for sharing. I love this set - when I was newly out of my dark ages, this was one of the very first 'older' sets I tracked down (Although it wasn't that old at the time, only about 7 years). It's a great playset with amazing parts - rocks, palms, animals, accessories, heaps of printed pieces - really a treasure-trove. I especially love the sarcophagus piece and think its due for a revival.

Didn't CGH sell a ship with disastrous shipping consequences? I think you'd have to be extra careful about how you were going to move any MOC around; it's not like most come with instructions. I imagine everyone has a price. If the builder thought they could subsidise some amazing new project by selling off an old one, perhaps they'd go for it. You might be better 'commissioning' an experienced builder to produce a specific work for you, which seems to be the more common way to do things.
  22. I don't think I would, for a few reasons: 1) The new brand wouldn't hold the 'nostalgia' factor that using LEGO for all these years has imbued my collection with 2) I've spent a huge amount of cashola building up a LEGO collection; it wouldn't make sense to switch horses for me in mid-stream. I have problems enough storing 1 collection; I wouldn't want to start on another! 3) As I evolve as an AFOL (becoming more parts focussed and interested in MOCin' rather than just building official models) my buying habits have switched to reflect this, so I spend more $$ buying parts in interesting colours than I probably do on official sets (although there's some good official stuff coming out like PoP and Harry Potter). I'm more interested in LEGO's darker shades anyway so whilst I do find colour inconsistencies depressing they seem to occur more with white and the primary colours nowadays which doesn't affect me so much as a builder (although as a retail consumer I hate it!). 4) LEGO already has the best 'AFOL-targeted' designer who does official sets anyway - one J. Berard - so the sets would have to be pretty top-notch to impress me 5) One of the things most AFOLs seem to prize highly is minifigs, and I don't know if any competitor could come up with an alternative to the fig that would be as popular or as diverse as what LEGO currently offers.

As you'd probably expect, not much apart from a gold scorpion and goblet.
  24. I always have used New Posts - maybe coz it's closer to my 'clickin' finger' It doesn't seem that different from Active Topics anyway, which I get more results for. But I don't want more results! 5 pages of new posts in the morning is enough for me
  25. If you're not buying using PayPal and you live in Australia, and don't use S@H, your choices really are limited We don't have Pick a Brick or Build a Minifig or LEGO stores here at all, so none of those are options. In this case I would thoroughly search Bricklink stores for older Classic Town figs from the 80s onwards. There's a few there that are quite cheap. The 8401 Minifig Collection is not rare; it's just not being restocked as much in stores since the 2010 waves have come in.
