  1. That pic is blurry - I can't read the download code at all! Could you pretty please just type it out for us?
  2. Svelte replied to Internets's post in a topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Very impressive! You're right, most of the ones I've seen are too wide. This is a great size, and with just the right amount of detail to look Legoish Great work!
  3. Ooh, that is exciting news! Good to see that there will be an alternative to the boring as batcrap City figs for a change. The level of detail on these looks great! I wonder if Mars Mission would have done better if they had designed the space figs properly as they seem to have here

Happy birthday, (1)! Hope you had/ have a great day! My present to you is the nickname Jimbee which I can see from this thread has spread like wildfire
  5. Thanks for the news, LACIII! It makes sense that the Squid Gate leads somewhere , let's hope this set is spectacular! Here's the close-up: Here's the sets:
  6. New member LACIII found a flickr pic with instruction art showing stylised versions of all the January 2010 releases, along with an image of a huge sunken city - could this be a massive summer release? 8. Unless there's a new theme of western space cavemen wrestlers on the way, I think this must be Universe related.
  9. The problem with all the digital stuff these days is it's hard to tell what's actually ABS or just a render. The hat and guns look like proper plastic, but the position of the legs looks like a render. Or broken! It seems odd that a flagship fig for a new theme, for example, would be released via a business card on to Brickjournal. So I really have no idea what this could mean. I thought employees had individualised business cards, anyway?
  10. That $10 really paid off Congratulations! Why, just imagine how much Lego you will have collected by the 20 year anniversary!
  11. I imagine the Jan 08 Star Wars stuff will be clearanced like the Hailfire Droid, Rogue Shadow etc. The AT-AT is probably due to be clearanced, too. It is possible that the first big wave of Clone Wars stuff from July 08 will go on sale, but it may be too soon. I would guess that most of the Castle line from 07-08 will be slashed. Agents 1.0 too, probably and anything left over from the City Cargo themes. For Exclusives, the Town Plan will be 2 years old in January and the Eiffel Tower is an 07 set as well. Actually, I just noticed that Town Plan is showing up as sold out on S@H so it looks like it has reached the natural end of its lifetime. If the Spongebob license has expired, then that will probably face the axe. Perhaps some Indy as well from the early part of 08. So many sets! With the 2010 sets not looking that amazing, the sales will be well worth waiting for.

  13. Thanks for the review, TheBrickster! I have to say, this line does little for me. I'm not even that keen on the sharkdude, much preferring the more classically Lego-looking Harry Potter version than this cartoony fellow. I am much more impressed with my MISB arrival this week of a certain aquatically inclined 6441, which I've been craving ever since you posted your wonderful review! Sure, it was a little pricey, but one 6441 pretty much equals the whole of the Atlantis line for me The different shades of red don't look promising from a quality POV.
  14. I'll polish your headlamp if you polish mine They say headlamps shine brighter when someone else is doing the polishing, anyhoo
  15. Svelte replied to cagri's post in a topic in General LEGO Discussion
The old dark reds were variable, but I don't know if a production period of ten years isn't quite right I wouldn't say it was just a translucency issue. Yes, the new shade is more consistent but is a lot duller and has lost the vibrancy and richness which made dark red so attractive. Once you mix the new with the old you can see how dramatic the difference is - they don't really work together very well at all.
  16. Oh, I've been around, doing space security stuff - patrolling the corridors, checking my security headlamp is in working order, spending hours locked in the janitor's cupboard rocking back and forth stuttering 'Don't let the space wieners get inside me, Mommy' the usual security stuff - you know how it is, chief.
  17. I know; I just think it's odd that the purpose of the treasure-hunters is to collect these things if they don't really do anything. In comparison, for example, each of the Agents Missions had a separate objective which made sense in the context of the narrative of the theme (jewels, treasure map, laptop, laser weapons etc).
  18. Svelte replied to Christian's post in a topic in LEGO Licensed
I don't think so; that piece seems way too small. I don't really like the Construct-A-Buzz but the helmet there is a must-have
  19. There was a lot of speculation about the 'black box' at the time this video appeared. The consensus was that the mystery building was the Fire Brigade. The timing is really the key. The video was done in Feb/ March, when even the Fire Brigade hadn't been officially announced yet
  20. That doesn't really make sense - do we need to buy all 6 sets (or however many have keys) to open one Gate?
  21. I agree entirely. Florentzia has a right to vote, and it seems silly just to persecute her on the basis that she 'threw the first stone', so to speak. It doesn't seem as if there is any real evidence either way. Those space wieners sure are sneaky! I wonder if we have to watch out for devilishly intentioned condiments, like space mustard or space ketchup? Keep alert but not alarmed, people!
  22. Thanks for the review, Mariann! Sadly I remain unimpressed. The helmet makes the figs look bald and that shark is a hot mess. Only the head even looks shark-like; the rest of the body looks like a barbed tadpole I much preferred the 07 version with its more naturalistic shape and colours. I can't say I'm fond of the new teeth and barb pieces - I liked it when Lego introduced the tooth plate and the Viking horn, but these new ones just seem to be designed so that as the models get ever larger, the dentistry on these creatures matches!
  23. Horrifying news! Two non-infected deaths? At this rate we'll all be dead before enough kilo-wotsits expire and we hit the black hole! Let's hope the wieners don't possess enough sentience to steer themselves out of the way, so if at least we all die the curse ends here and we don't spread the infection. *runs around in circles, crying like a little girl* Ok, deep breath. I'm calm now! As for the blasters, I'm not sure who has the authority to sign them out. Perhaps our chief of security can inform us of the exact protocols? It may be that someone had an illicit cache of weapons on board, anyhoo.
  24. Just a few that have jumped out at me over the last year. I love the way the concealed cannons mounted in the side flanges of the 7679 Republic Fighter Tank rotate to reveal the weaponry. I don't own it, but the hidden weapons rack and safe in 5980 Squidman's Pitstop look quite clever too. Anything requiring a smoothly moving cockpit mechanism should look at the 7673 MagnaGuard Starfighter. The groovy elevator function in 7631 Construction Site using a 32 long Technic axle and wheels for friction is pretty cool. The hinged trailer on the blue tractor from 7637 Farm is strong and far superior to dodgy similar mechanisms in the Cargo Plane runway vehicle or Dump Truck. The way the drill bit is built in the 8960 Thunder Driller to rotate in different directions is very clever. The sliding door feature in the 8036 Separatists Shuttle is a brilliant bit of small scale Technic engineering. The way the boats in 7197 Venice Chase are designed to separate but still hold together is worth checking out. The way the 10193 Medieval Market Village water wheel spins to power the blacksmith's anvil is another greate small-scale Technic function. Overall, I think the SW sets are better designed in terms of play than a lot of regular themes - whether this is from extra dedication from the design team or the slightly older age bracket, I'm not sure (eg hinged cockpits were taken to be too hard to construct for the SP3 target audience). You could probably even break it down into a taxonomy. Eg, Most Lego play functions fall into: 1) Catapults 2) Missiles (flickfire or Technic) 3) Trapdoors 4) Hidden Compartments 5) Functional Hinging and so on.
  25. Ack! Those images are multiple and massive We only allow a maximum of 800x600 pixels - please resize and then feel free to repost them in the above post. Nice MOC! But the images really are too big
