Mystical Castle - Conclusion
Thanks for a fun game, Dragonator! I think I did quite well for a noob - I harassed 3 Dragons in a row, and was right about the remaining 2 - especially since Shadows didn't give me the hit-list he apparently gave everyone else I was the protector, although I didn't know I was a magical protector until I tried to protect Alice on Night 4, an attempt which failed since the killer didn't use magic! Previously I had not used my night action since the immense confusion over the Ambassadors alliances as caused by the sneaky Zepher meant I didn't know which way to turn and didn't want to risk helping the wrong person. I look forward to MCXXXV: Mystical Castle 2020 - Attack of the Space Lizards Thanks Zepher! I only went after you so hard because I realised I had been too zealous in arguing against Vipont, so when you voted for me I quickly went back through the last day and assembled some evidence! If you hadn't voted for me, it's doubtful I would have scrutinised you so much.

Email! I'd be changing the locks if it was my home address, fending off avaricious AFOLs!

Well, I'm pleased to announce I won a K9 Impulse Bot during Bricktober I didn't even print the PDF, I just entered the receipt number and had a surprise in the letterbox (crushed, of course, but at least it was free ) I was less thrilled yesterday when I received an email copying in what looked like everyone's address who'd ever registered on the site. Looks like someone at K-Mart doesn't know what a Blind Carbon Copy is

MOD: 10199x2 + 2 PaB cups
Nice adaptation! I think the white window frames work well on that second storey, and it fits as a smaller adjunct to the larger official Modular buildings. I so miss the lovely chimney of the original

What is Your Favorite Modular Building?
Tricky topic! Of the three, I find 10197 Fire Brigade least appealing for a few reasons - having 2 large floors rather than 3 makes it feel a little out of scale compared to 10182 and 10185; the colour palette is much more limited (some dark red and a little dark tan, but the vast majority of the bricks are light bley); I don't think the furniture designs are as clever as the interior details added in the highly original 10185. Out of 10182 and 10185, it's a tough call. Green Grocer has the better build and the wonderful interior details, as well as the amazing bay windows and a proliferation of sand green. But Cafe Corner has the most original concept - the corner facade, with a warmer and more welcoming colour scheme (rich reds, brown and tan), and is also the only model to feature the double-sided walls, with the interior having a different colour scheme to the exterior facade. For that reason, I chose 10182 - design wise some touches seem a little rough 2 1/2 years later (such as the lack of proper 1x2x window pieces in the parts palette at the time of its release) but the basic concept and execution by designer Jamie Berard is still startlingly original and unsurpassed.

MOC: "What are you doing in my bed?"
It was an honest mistake - with their buggy pupils and toothy screams, both these guys look fairly similar. In the dark, their hair colour probably looked the same Cutes!

New Games Regulator: Dragonator!
The Dragonator had an exam today. The big surprise was sprung on him the night before (his time), so let's pray that he managed to concentrate Either that, or he's still composing his speech of thanks.

I actually *gasp* like short-lived themes!
Great topic! I think the optimal life for a short-lived theme is 2 years - long enough to round out a good collection of sets and make some improvements, but not long enough that the designers run out of ideas. However it is important the second line brings something new, not just repaints of expensive fig moulds created for Wave 1. Even the modernised evergreen themes follow this pattern, if you consider subthemes as offshoots of the main theme (eg City Fire, Construction, Coast Guard, Cargo etc - most of these only last one wave before being superseded) Of course, all themes vary slightly depending on how you look at them. Here's my thoughts on some of them from the last few years: The 07 Mars Mission sets were a mixed bag, with a lot of dross, but some of the 08 sets were absolutely superb (like the PF enhanced Crystal Reaper ). The introduction of the Alien Commander was a great move considering the unpopularity of the jellies. That said, I wasn't really interested in another wave. Castle - An amazing return to form in 2007, a great new faction with beautiful colour scheme and parts in 08 (Trolls, Dwarves, dark brown, dark red), but by 09 reduced to fig-fetishism and repaints for sales Agents - the first line was consistent and impressive, but Agents 2.0 largely stank apart from the Robo Attack set Indiana Jones - a rare line in that fig design improved enormously in the second year, with a lot of new colours, faces and parts. If 2009 does see the end, it definitely goes out on a high Power Miners - never a fan of it, but it seems to be devolving before our eyes. The first wave was OK, but the supersized summer sets looked a bit thrown together and the new blue colour scheme for 2010 isn't doing anything for me. That prison set must be one of the worst official sets ever released (apart from the cool vending machine ) Pirates - probably deserved one more year, but I'd trade one 10210 Imperial Flagship for a regular 8-10 set assortment of the variety we had in 09.

In the 10199 instructions ads, the Cafe Corner is gone from the page where they show the Green Grocer & Fire Brigade together It's been 2 1/2 years - I'm pretty sure this is the end. It may bob up again for a while like Market Street seemed to do but I doubt they will do another production run.

LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary Event Overview
Thanks for this very detailed and exciting overview of a fabulous looking event! In Sydney, the only Star Wars Lego-ey in-store goodness we get is the occasional Darth Maul bust display , so it's great to see so many people out and about and all dressed up!

Welcome to "The Crimson Curtains"
'The Crimson Curtains'? You are so naughty! Very nice work, with lots of detail. The posing of the figs is superb. I especially like massage table guy and the skeleton bas-relief at the base. The mixing of classic fig parts and newer pieces is top-notch, too - I love the red-bodiced lass! I disagree with martinsuper about the bley - is there some hard and fast rule that bley stands for stone and only stone?

Peanut Butter Bricks Anyone?
I don't really understand the concept of peanut butter and chocolate (!) but these do look very cute! Some white chocolate rocky road versions for the festive season would look nice, too!
