This is an amazing looking project and a great way to introduce yourself to EB! Thanks so much for sharing. It's nice to see something (other than castles) designed with such attention to accuracy and historical detail. The layout is superb. I love the mini-scale version too - and it's probably more practical for some of us to imitate! Good luck sourcing those bricks. If you were planning on a public display and were a member of a LUG, it seems to me that this is EXACTLY the sort of project that the scheme is intending to support. Look here for more info.

Without any concrete news on 2010, I have merged this back into the 2009 SPIII thread. Please continue the discussion here until such time as we have a firm idea of what's happening next year - then we can have a new thread Thanks!
  3. That story actually says they don't trust the source that made this announcement and that they'll believe it when it's officially announced... Nothing to see here people, move along
  4. Yes, I'm running out of supplies and I've always wanted to see an old-style American abattoir homestead. A man with such distinguished facial hair yet obvious shortsightedness could surely not do us any harm, despite what Herman says.

I find an ordinary soft horsehair paintbrushes fine, and you can get different sizes depending on whether you need to sweep large areas or get into those nooks and crannies
  6. There is a topic on this subject right here
  7. The Ambassador that asked that question also clarified that Lego's response said only that the 09 line would continue to be sold in 2010. So until we actually have official confirmation one way or the other, it's still just speculation

I thought this looked familiar, but wasn't sure of the link. Thanks Millacol88! Topic merged
  9. Svelte replied to Rain Jake's post in a topic in LEGO Town
Rain Jake, I've edited your post title to something more descriptive to encourage people to click on your post - I hope you don't mind Also, you may wish to use brickshelf or some other image hosting site for future MOCs - using the attachment system is fine, but if you delete these attachments (or use up all the space and want to post something else) you will find your pics disappear from this post. If you use brickshelf, you can also post as many pics as you wish - changes in rank won't dramatically make differences to how many files you will be able to attach in future. Visiting the Tutorials index may help you out.

I just noticed that my Market Streets had the light-green torso of the overalls print which also has this issue, so I'm pretty sure that the lighter colour was in production for a long time, and that as stocks of the old print dwindled, the new production run was modified (either deliberately or as a result of a printing change) to the newer darker green version. Looks like this is happening all over. Neither really actually looks right; I presume they're supposed to match the green of proper minifig parts (like legs) to give the effect of a fig wearing overalls, but both colours look out of place. With the Pirates torso this is less of a problem.
  11. Don't beat me, but I secretly enjoy the Avengers remake with Uma 'Wooden Plank' Thurman and Ralph 'Just cash the cheque' Fiennes. Like The Wicker Man, it also has people dressed as giant bears. Perhaps there's a trend there....
  12. No; these one off books aren't anything to do with the American subscription with magazines and sets.
  13. Thanks for the link! But 10188 was announced well in advance, and we had several weeks notice of the Dropship as well. I still don't think another Indy set is at all likely in 09. That Jedi news post is now over 12 months old, and even if it was true at the time doesn't mean things couldn't have changed at any point before the 09 line was finalised. I wouldn't hold your breath
  14. Please do NOT keep on reposting the same requests. WhiteFang has already moved your recently posted list where it belongs - the MCW Wish List. As WhiteFang has also pointed out, you already seem to know that the wish list is where these requests should be made, so check that thread and have some patience. Thanks!

Zorbas makes some good points, and thanks for the link to that previous discussion, Rick The detailed central business district with the modular line phased to older style, open-backed houses (the 'burbs!) makes the most sense to me. Having the Creator houses in the middle to 'mediate' the visual difference is a great idea. Personally, I find the problem is 10184. It's hyper-detailed, like the modular houses, and in rare colours, but open-backed and only on 16 wide baseplates. The Creator houses, while simpler in style, are all enclosed and on 32x baseplates. The cinema and town hall look teensy and skinny compared to these McMansions! The 32x32 (with cutout corner) retro garage is probably the easiest to integrate into such a layout. If I was displaying this as a tabletown, I'd be tempted to buy another 10184 and bulk out the cinema and Town Hall with the extra parts to make them look more consistent.
  16. Actually, the rumour of an 8 set assortment came from EB, and there was never any confirmation of it anywhere. Navy Trooper Fenson posted the most likely explanation of the confusion here. The thread is worth reading and you will see that all the rumours are unsubstantiated. I wouldn't get your hopes up for a further Indy release this year; after the September/ October releases (RBR and the Xmas sets) Lego usually switches focus to production of the forthcoming January lines (which in some countries arrive in December or even late November, like Pirates in the US last year).
  17. Thanks for the detailed review! I can't say I'm overly amazed by your alternate build , but this set looks fun and not bad value. Reddy McWhiskers facial arrangement is indeed terrifying. He looks like he's growing whiskers. Animal whiskers, not the beardy kind Dragon Knights came out well into my Dark Ages, so I never found them that interesting. I also find the plumage kind of... showy. I much prefer the simple feathers from the older sets. With this complicated top and sides arrangement, Reddy looks less like a fearsome knight and more like a hanging children's mobile. Wait, Falcons were the bad guys?
  18. I completely agree; I don't understand why they have to come pre-assembled and even glued when these are mainly exclusives or sold through brand stores where the consumer knows what Lego is (interchangeable blocks!) and what they're supposed to do (be stuck together!). It can only be a marketing angle, where the customer is lured in by 'seeing' all the minifigs straight up.
  19. $39.95 for those Pirate and Castle Brickmaster books seems a bit high. I use this website to order a lot of books - free shipping worldwide and they're pretty speedy - most stuff arrives within a week: http://bookdepository.co.uk With the dollar at a good rate against the pound, all of these titles including the Visual Dictionary, end up in the $AUD25-27 range.

It's true; I have really bad circulation and my fingers get cold in winter ...

Thanks for all your good wishes! It is truly an honour to even be considered for a staff position, as all the staff here are so hard-working, knowledgeable and well-respected. When I first started posting reviews a year and a half ago, it was really to give something back to EB, which I'd always relied on as the premier site for news and high-quality set reviews, so it is pleasing to be given the opportunity to contribute in another manner as well. Or, as we say in the Academy, " "
  22. Actually, the press release does say that this result has little to do with the 2009 sets and more to do with very strong pre-Xmas sales We will have to wait a little longer to see how the 09 lines have fared in comparison.
  23. It looks fleshy to me, same as the exposed neck print area on the shirt
  24. Thanks for this very enjoyable and well-argued overview of the two themes, Grevious. I was well into my dark ages when Rock Raiders came out, so I don't have any nostalgia for that line. Before Power Miners was even announced, I never understood RRs popularity - the line seemed both <insert that tiresome argument> and ugly, and you're right about the appalling colour scheme I am not a huge Power Miners fan, but I do like the rock monsters and great-looking figs Thanks again for this great little essay
