LEGO Ideas Discussion

you beat me to it!! lol -
Thank you! My idea for the wormhole is to use that cardboard piece LEGO have used in the past to create a special element (like they have for the Lunar New Year Ice Festival) - either that of the same material they use for the wings of flying monsters (the ones from Avatar are semi transparent, so it would be perfect). I designed it so such an item can be slotted in round the back - just like you can see in the photos (these are real photos, not renders :). Alternatively, LEGO could create something altogether different and brick-build should they approve my concept. Re the DHD, if you check my previous submission, you'll see that I did create one, and a base for the gate to rest in, on that other world. However, as this is a resubmission, it's likely those companion pieces might make a comeback in some amended form, once I reach a certain number of votes :)

Hello all As some of you may know, I had a Stargate project on Ideas last year which made it to 10k. The results were announced last week and sadly, my design wasn't approved. However, it seems that resubmitting helps in the approval process. After all, The Office had to go through it 3 times, and Hocus Pocus twice, so I thought, why not resubmit it. I made some changes though. First off, I’ve increased the size of the protrusions above each chevrons by one stud, and changed the look of them so that they resemble those from the original gate a little more. I’ve changed the trans orange parts from those pyramidal pieces to half rounded 1x1 tiles. The pyramidal pieces made them look great in photos, but these new parts look better in real life. Moving on to the characters, I’ve given Sam medium legs, as she was shorter than the other members of the team, and this feels more realistic. I’ve also given her a GDO (that’s a device that allows the SGC to open the Iris so you don’t get squished like a bug on your way back home). I found a new head for Daniel, so hopefully people will stop saying that Harry Potter’s part of SG-1 😉 He also now have a book of Ancient knowledge instead of a camera. And Jack’s holding his trusty cap. Oh and I’ve hidden a little Easter egg for serious fans of the show. What do you think? Worth clicking on that "support" button again? Let me know in the comments, and thanks ever so much in advance! 😀 The link to the project is here: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/075d3c43-d693-4373-a55f-33a12492577d

Hello I have a LEGO Ideas sci-fi project I just submitted I'd like to bring your attention to. Is this the right thread to do so? -

Hello all - I know this isn't Classic Space, but it's sci-fi.... anyone fancy a trip through the Stargate? :) https://ideas.lego.com/projects/fb062593-0453-4752-bbe1-4a28a23ab642- 991 replies

yes, I tried to do it but it take for ever, and I only had a couple of hundred pieces. I gave up after over a day of rendering and I wasn't even halfway there. Quicker to do the manual stop motion builds I do ;)- 991 replies

Thanks Pombe It's still got a few more months of life, but it's not getting any traction. Even being interviewed on Beyond the Brick didn't lead to a significant boost in support, so I think it's just not meant to be. Thanks for your support - I too would've loved to see it in stores. Instead, it's going to be my own unique sci-fi Outpost. I won't show what I'm working on for weeks yet, but when I do, you'll be able to enjoy it on my YouTube channel ;) (right now I'm going to be releasing tips and tricks on how I built the Outpost - if you're interested :D I use Studio. It can generate part list and allows you to make instructions (don't know how that works yet but unlike LDD, you have to do it manually which is a bit of a pain).- 991 replies

How funny you should say that! Since it looks like my Modernised Classic Space proposal isn't gonna make it on LEGO Ideas, I've spent the last few weeks - in my spare time - designing extensions to the main set idea, essentially creating my own space theme as you yourself just suggested. I'm still creating additions to the base for now, but I do have dreams of expanding that to ground vehicles, and later, should I ever gain the needed skillset, my own spaceship :)- 991 replies

This thread is taking a pretty depressing turn... But if it's true that Star Wars is sucking the life out of any potential in-house sci-fi theme, it's a real pity, but at least we can still build our own. If we don't like what's on offer, then we can at least create whatever we can dream of ourselves. Regarding Exetrius' list (thanks for including me in it btw ;), my favs are Euclides Sector II, and the All-Terrain Exploration Vehicle. I think the LL-997 is too blocky and the Spearhead looks too big to be swooshable. Peter Reid's Neo-Classic Space revamp is beautiful, but it sadly won't make it now. Its pretty-much-clone copy is only just starting on its journey, although I have an issue with those two: the Ideas rule are clear and state that trying to re-issue an old set isn't allowed... so how come they were?- 991 replies

I know - I don't understand why my project is buried death beneath tons, even when doing specific searches. I'm cursed, I tells ya. I always thought my base would actually work quite well in a Star Wars setting ;) I think you're right. Even though I believe I myself did create a 'wow' factor, it's actually a complex concept which people need to spend time appreciating, not something you can look at for 5 seconds (at most) and figure out what it's about.- 991 replies

I am intrigued by the rover - I might actually get it to populate my larger Space Outpost. We'll see :) But really, it's just a tease for a sci-fi nerd. Didn't LEGO have another similar 3-in-1 a few years back? As far as blowing us away... maybe we shouldn't be too picky and vote for any original sci-fi set that comes along? Any one that gets through would be a win. Personally I'm tired of third party IPs (which is another reason why I may get that rover).- 991 replies

Thank you - It's not dead yet: I have 200 days to find around 3,900 votes, but statistically speaking, it's not looking good. I think that's the problem right there. Those who visit the Ideas site are real-science space fans, but not so keen on the fantasy/sci-fi element of space. I spoke to Peter Reid at length about this, and he told me he got lucky with the Exo Suit as most sci-fi space proposals don't go far beyond 2k and none have reached 5k recently. It certainly is discouraging, for sure.- 991 replies

I think you're right: there was only one Bionicle project, so the fans could focus their attention on it exclusively. There are many space projects - of course, I have a fondness for one in particular myself... ;)- 991 replies

As one of the four cats, all I can say is a very sad sounding "meow" I've done my best chaps and chapettes but even the mighty Beyond the Brick haven't been able to give my project the lift it needs ?- 991 replies
