What should I do with my collection
hi all, thanks for you suggestions and complimets so far :) After reading everyones responce and put in some thought, I don't think I would be selling them because money can be made but rare sets will be gone forever(unless you pay for overpriced ebay/bricklink which I'm not going to) And i can always rebuild them if i want to as long as I have parts and instructions. So i see no point in keeping them seperate per set, thus i think its time to pool them together. Time to check the organize & sort thread! Duce: Its definately visualy pleasing to have large castles all together, I honestly didnt think I would buy this many. damn you brickset... But I'm over the collectors syndrome, good luck in your collection!

What should I do with my collection
Hi, I'm a 'casual' AFOL that likes to build and collect mostly large sets and put them on display. When I came back from my dark ages, I went on a Castle collecting spree (cuz they're cool) and then eventually just buy sets that interest me here and there. I haven't done any MOCs or anything. I don't think I have the passion/time/money to invest and compete with EB members. But I do like building and admiring complete sets. This is a portion of whats on display atm to give you an idea. This is about 70% of what i own, the rest is on the floor not included in this pic. Anyway its time to put them away but I'm torn between 'how to' 1) Disassemble them per set and store them seperately? This way I can sell them via individual sets if I decide to. 2) Disassemble them all completely and sort/organize them nicely for free play/MOCing?

Original Castle or LOTR?
I'm a minority that has never seen or read a Tolkien book/movie so naturally I have little to no interest in the LOTR legos. The flagship Helms Deep just looks like a uninspiring huge grey wall to me. I'm more interested in the upcoming Vampire Castle.

REVIEW: 6411 Sand Dollar Café
I owned this set in real time, which means I must have been about 10-11 years old if it was a 1992 set. Strangely I do remember as a boy thinking 'this lego is really girly' but it didn't stop me from enjoying what it is. Paradisa is great, I really love how its not too girly, and can fit in within your regular Town sets. Yes, I'm not a fan of the 2012 'Friends' line.

New Member : "Outpost Mini-Castle"
Nice, 100% old Castle parts. You really hit the spot of the 'Classic Castle' style, I like it. Whats with the head with Grey helmet?
-
Why don't castle knights have the flip up helmet visors anymore?
The real helme that's gone out of production is the 'bullet head' one. I don't think they appeared since lego castle went 'Modern' with bley bricks and such.

What's next?

So I just came back from a 15 year absence/dark age and...
hi, the only older Castles I don't own is the King's 6080 and the Yellow Castle. I'm not *that* crazy about getting them, unless I find a deal on it. They're aesthetically boring imo after building too many modern Castles. Some day I will get the 6086 Black Knight's Castle...

How much did you spend on Lego in 2011?
I just got back into Lego may 2011, and been collecting old discontinued castles which can be a bit pricey. (Thread here http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=64483 ) On top of this I bought some Xmas sets, Technics, whatever thats on a big sale, and gifts for other people. I'd say I spent about $2000 Canadian in 2011. 2012 will probably be lower because I don't have to hunt for large old sets on ebay anymore.

Alternate Pieces in Set #8877
Hi, I built that set not too long ago from brand new box in Canada. Taking a quick look at my display I see 1 Light-Blue horse helmet (same color as Jayko's armor) and 1 normal blue horse helmet. I'm 99% sure this is not 'blue-violet' as bricklink says. Theres no extra helmets or anything. The blue-violet horse helmet is included in 8781 Castle of Morcia and its clearly different than the one in 8877. Hope this helps.

Fantasy Castle vs. Kingdoms
I just got back into Lego mid 2011 so I pretty much missed the entire Fantasy line. Looking at the catalogue @ brickset really makes me drool of some of the sets. Kingdom's is alright but imo Fantasy line has so much more cool elements. Sketelons and the weapons they use, Skeleton horses, Ships, unique designed sets like Skeleton tower, Troll Battlewheel. I do own both 7946 and 7094 castles and for me its easily 7094 over 7946. I even like the color scheme of navy over red. Kingdoms seems sort of a more safe approach to what Lego castle used to be; not a bad thing but it was a bit lacking in terms of sets. Especially the Dragon Knight faction hardly got anything.

Kingdoms 2012?
disappointed the Dragon Knights didn't get a full size castle nor a 'leader' type minifig like the Evil wizard/Troll King in Fantasy Era. Their faction seems a bit lacking. Instead they get TWO medium prison sets? I don't get it but oh well at least the smaller prison comes with a Dragon print horse barding.

So I just came back from a 15 year absence/dark age and...
Yes, theres this part of me that wants to start free building MOCs but I'm in the process of obtaining another Castle (6090 Royal King's) and I still want the 6086 Black Knight's still to add to this collection. Once I take a picture of all the Castles together *then* I think I can move on.

So I just came back from a 15 year absence/dark age and...
I keep track of all my Lego purchases and how much I spent on them so I don't go out of control. The discontinued old sets costs in CANADIAN $ in order of purchase. shipping included. 7097 Troll's Mountain fortress - $147 from ebay. Got caught by duty fees :( 7094 King's Castle siege - $175 from ebay. The prices of this set are quite insane on ebay, I've seen them go over $200 usual. 8877 Vladek's Dark FOrtress - Brand new $133 from ebay. 6093 Flying Ninja Fortress - $110 from ebay. This one is rare and it was a buy it now auction so I jumped on it. 6082 Fire Breathing Forress - $59 from ebay. 8781 Castle of Morcia - $85 from ebay. Very good deal for a discontinued Castle! 6085 Black Monarch's Castle - $94 from ebay. 10176 Royal Knight's Castle - $134 from bricklink. I already owned 6081 Kings Mountain Fortress from a kid and MMV and 7046 Kingdoms Castle I bought during sales from the US. Canadian retail prices and their sales are pathetic compared to the US I rarely buy from here haha. I've spent about $1800CAD since May 2011, Castle and non-castle which is not too bad considering I did have to pay premium on some of the Castles. Someone spending $15000 in 1 year seriously?!? o_0
