  1. Apart from the steering (which is very complicated indeed), you can see exactly the limitations of lego in this very model: It needs the old full rubber tires to withstand the pressure according to the whole weight of this behemoth. Even as a fan of big sets like the upcoming 42100, models like this crane you showed (part counts 10.000++) will never be released as a regular 'play' set. Back to topic: I hope for some sort of "Technic Classics" sets. I don't mean a new interpretation of old sets but more like a steam roller or a old 3-wheeled tractors. These types of machinery are more bare-boned and mechanics are way more visible compared to modern vehicles. TLG can repeat that Lego is just for kids, but they know for sure the financial power of AFOLs.
  2. Out of the 25 sets available one the TLG webpage right now (product range from 2017 to 2019) and excluded the 4 pullbacks (which imho are technic cars) we still have the following cars: - 42077 Rallycar - 42083 Bugatti - 42098 Corvette - 42096 Porsche RSR - (42098: one car included) - (42099: Still a car though) Every six months, at least one cars have been introduced, making two every year. For the new 1H 2020 (list according to the post on second page of this thread) I've highlited the imho certain and possible cars we have: - 42101 Buggy 117 pieces - 42102 Mini Claas Xerion 130 pieces - (42103 Dragster 225 pieces --> Pullback) - (42104 Race Truck 227 pieces --> Pullback) - 42105 [Boat] 404 pieces - 42106 Stunt show truck & bike 610 pieces - 42107 [2w] - 42108 Mobile crane 1292 pieces - 42109 TBD R-car 463 pieces - 42111 [Entertainer] - 42115 [Ultimate] Even the stunt show truck and possible the 2w (bike) are not really technic models but more on the speedy side. We are certainly not short on cars... please more real technic sets more functions than steering and movable pins as cylinders...
  3. Actually, I am. As already mentioned in this thread, they could at least use the backhoe configuration for the b-model. No change in the whole main structure needed (like the b-model for 42082). Nearly no change in the App needed, same actuators used. The bucket just has to be turned around and the backside completed with the already present panels in dark bluish gray. This surely will be one of the first mod somebody will do (not me :-D ).
  4. Actually I don't know what to think about this set. As said by Aventador: Finally, we have what feels like a good steady stream of construction machines within the Technic program again! But on the other side, this just doesn't feel like a original Lego set. More like a moc with a very this flimsy/weedy/wobbly design as already mentioned, although the lifting arm is a direct copy of the 42082 design, which makes it even stranger... They say the test everything with children (10+ years of age). Surely somebody would have commented: "Shouldn't a crane be more stable?" Actually both models look like B-models of a somewhat better A-model which just hadn't passed quality control. Has anyone already done the "How much can it lift?"-test?
  5. As given on the Lego website: 5” display or larger <-- I hope this is a recommendation, not a requirement...? Sony Xperia Z3 compact-user here....
  6. Oh man, you are right... I just confused with tractor pulling .... nevermind...
  7. Just a though about the tractor wheels: Maybe if the 42102 Mini Claas Xerion will have them, also the 42103 Dragster (225 pieces) will use them?
  8. Hmm sadly, this seems right looking at the MOCs with VSP. But TLG did have sets with seaworthy hulls, although many years ago. Still I hope they really try to create something innovative in contrast to the typical 2 pullback cars every two years, 2+ racing cars of some type and 1 helicopter/jet every year. On the other side, maybe only my adult mind speaking here...
  9. Just wishful thinking, but maybe with the 42105 (404 pieces) we get a boat with a little more functions. I'd really hope they try to recreate the Voith-Schneider propellor in some sort of tugboat. IMHO most 'normal' boats don't really have interesting functions for a technic model, so there really is a need for something like additional cranes (42064).
  10. I think we've seen some stranger things in the city than a big tractor... 6346 Space Shuttle Truck for example But still, small tractor tires would be very nice and way better than the tires for the 7634..
  11. Hmm normally, that wouldn't be a concern for me. But the 42100 really screams for a big haul truck like: https://thelegocarblog.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/094715s4mkm2mgmgxb5xd4.jpg Maybe I should start with a MOC myself, enough white pieces should be available...
  12. Looking at this list, I am missing a motorized Liebherr haul truck as a companion for the 42100 :-/ How cool would it be to control both just by switching a channel
  13. The overhead-steering at around 0:10 looks really unreachable for bigger hands... there is a second steering wheel somewhere on the cabin right?
  14. Looks more like improved and/or more cost efficient production to me. I think booth spindels use a outer plastic sheath and an inner metal core. The older one on the left have to be manufactured with a blind hole, which is slightly more labour intensive than to drill through. But its just a guess...
  15. I'd always had a weakspot for candys, too... :-)
  16. As its somehow related to the 42100; Liebherr showed a new dump truck at the bauma: Liebherr Bauma (at around 4:24) Maybe this one will be the next model complementing the 42100? On the other hand, as the 236 is the smallest of the Liebherr dump trucks, maybe the bigger T264 will fit better according to the size: Data Manual T264
  17. I think it was already mentioned in the forum, and also my oppinion: You can build a face showel (Model A) and a backhoe variant (Model B). Like the 42082, the main chassis would stay the same, just the arm is built differently.
  18. I think there is a little bit more behind this. At first, TLC wants to run a profitable business, therefor they look at the sales figures. If bigger models sale well, they do more of if. Also the technic fanbase, and not only aduits, built bigger MOCs, which is a definite sign, there is a community that wants bigger technic models. The other point you are making is maybe more logical if you consider, that at first the Technic branch should be more accessible to a bigger community, where some haven't had any experience with Lego Technic at all. Therefor if a complete newbie choose a new, big Technic set, he or she should be able without any problems, to build this one according to the given manuals. It would be a real bummer if you make a single mistake because of a poorly or rushed build pic in the manual which then leads to a complete failure of the functionality. Coming back to the 42100, it would be kinda depressing to rebuild 1000+ bricks just to correct one failure because of a missed pin. In regards to this, older models needed more experience and maybe were 'harder' to build, but also had less complicated building techniques and way less bricks, so mistakes were faster/easier to fix. On the other hand, i agree to a certain point, that the manuals should increase a little bit in difficulty, especially when it's officially stated there is a "complex building experience" for some big models.
  19. Actually I don't know why there is is so much hate about the controls via smartphone. Actually I would be mad, if they include a special controller for 60+ €/$ just for this set. Then everybody would say: "Hey why no control via my smartphone???" A simple app is so much better to calibrate and way more universal than a monstrous control for 7 functions. And as already said: Nowadays, everybody has a smartphone or could buy a used one for 50 € if really needed. It all depends how well the app is programmed, that is my only concern.
  20. For the excavator, I'd love to see a front-shovel excavator: https://www.mining-power.de/images/bagger/okrh400/rh400_12.jpg If we really talking about a big model, the bucket should be made out of several pieces, not like the single-piece buckets we know of. The pivoting triangle for the lifting mechanics would be very neat to watch :-)
  21. Its really strange: If it isn't a functional element and just a beam, why should it be yellow? Also in the video, i could not spot any holes. And if it is a normal shock absorber, then its even stranger: The yellow ones are the hard ones (Part 731c04), so two of them in such a light set means a reeelly hard suspension which would not make any sense at all. And also i dont spot the typical grooves on the sides. Maybe we get smaller shock absorbers? 4.5 studs would be great!
  22. I think its for opening and closing the claw. The lower gear is fixed so, so when you pull the red bush forward, the claw closes while tilting down a little bit.
  23. The biggest bummer really is the front end. Try this: Just cover up the front end part of the picture with your hand and you really can tell: "Whoa! That's great, its a Vette!" and then uncover the front end... "WTF? Have they used leftover parts?" The front part is really the most iconic part of nearly evry car and should be handled with great priority. Also a really big design flaw in my opinion is the air outlet on the side (black strip just in front of the door). Why did they use a sticker? I mean there is a panel, leaving exatly that shape in the right place and the fender which also fits. Just get rid of the 3L lift arm in front of it and replace it with a smaller part (two studs wide).
