THE PIRATE BAY IS GOING TO BE AN OFFICIAL LEGO SET!!!!
Wait a moment. Zero problem here with anybody's own personal view, but when an argument itself is not strong enough, it is an opportunity to show the counterarguments. We are arguing here, and in an argument someone often has a bit more and someone has less objective truth. This was not about personal taste but about rather obvious marketing steps, piece availability and recognisable design patterns. When someone likes to forget mentioning or even thinking about quite existing arguments it is totally okay to point out the faulty in their logic. Also no bad intentions were meant in either side, so until this does not change we are actually using the forum what it is for. Saying that this is forum policing is actually kind of passive-aggressive in my honest opinion. So when someone says they liked the original version more, that is not very debatable. When someone says the new looks nothing like the original one, it is a debatable argument. Not the feelings are not legitimate enough, only their arguments about it. It is not the same.

THE PIRATE BAY IS GOING TO BE AN OFFICIAL LEGO SET!!!!
I was one of that 10'000 voters and honestly I did not think it was that special. It was a very fine build on an obsolete baseplate. Here in the forum we've already discussed with many fellow members that a bit more Shipwreck Cove vibe should be added to it, because the original is truly - as you've rightly pointed out - just some village occupied by pirates. If you have enough reddish brown bricks you just need to buy the baseplate and build it quite easily. This is the direction what I was hoping for Lego would go for: Also Pablo's original idea was trying to be something like this with the frontal ship parts laying around the build but maybe not dared to go further. I only voted for the idea, because it was a properly made pirate one and I'm still voting every high quality Pirates ideas since, just to send Lego a message where my heart belongs to. I'd never ever dreamt of it being actually implemented in a truly Classic fashion. Let's see other previous ideas with their final result: Nothing happened here which would suggest Lego just took a great idea and 'butchered' it. This is why this theme is called IDEAS not DOLEGOSWORKPLS.

I think your post is well done. Only if you want to use images you need to upload them to a 3rd party server, like flickr, brickshelf or imgur, since Eurobricks is not designed to be able to store so many images. Then you only need to copy the url into your post and it will be presented automatically.

THE PIRATE BAY IS GOING TO BE AN OFFICIAL LEGO SET!!!!
I honestly think we're in a loop here. I just gave you exact arguments and you gave back this non-specific standpoint of 'not being the same'. This is a general logical backdoor, not an actual review of quality anymore. You could keep saying this until the last piece is not made to be the same. You're still omitting the fact again that the option of the ship build is not a tiny thing to achieve. You say like this would've been possible by swapping 3 colors in the original. Because the Barracuda is one of the two main reasons here. That's the cause of the biggest design and color changes while the whole build and layout is practically the very same. And I just don't understand why are you keep saying this when you already think it is even better. Then sorry, but who cares if it is not the same? it is OBVIOUSLY not the same at this point. We're not blind, we clearly see what do you mean, it just do not matter, because the original build was acutally nothing special like this. General building design packed onto each other with a reddish brown color scheme. Also just as I said all the time it is mentioned it is not the same, think about the baseplate, the other main reason. How do you create the whole set, while it is based on the biggest baseplate ever created, which is not manufactured again and the piece count is already in the skies. I gave reasons why it COULD NOT be the same, not like other IDEAS sets, thus we're in the loop now. You are jumping over very important arguments I've made a couple of times now, suggesting them to be not a big issue. They are. It is simply not true that it does look nothing like the original. In what way? Please elaborate, because it is actually does this one thing, to look like as the original. It had to work out the unavailable design elements and give a pirate ship build too. I just don't understand if you like it better why is it an 'issue'. I think you should appreciate that it was approved at the first time, because let's be honest: it had slim chances with today's marketing tendencies. The whole build was too big, many unavailable elements, the market is niched. It was accepted truly because of our passion for pirates and this is why it got all the classic reimagination after. Totally this.

[MOD/MOC] Bluecoat Ship
Hey PacificDuck, welcome to Eurobricks! Such a nice modification! I was just thinking recently about possible ways of reimplementing the Clipper into a more modern look. I reckon this could be taken as such for the yellow parrot masthead at the front. Could you make more pictures, I'd be very interested in them.

THE PIRATE BAY IS GOING TO BE AN OFFICIAL LEGO SET!!!!
I beg to differ. I think all that is in the final version is there to actually and practically resemble to the idea. What you're trying to say is that it is not the same. I think all the negativity comes from this fact and not from the lack of resemblance, which is absolutely not true in my opinion. In the interviews and blogs it was clearly explained why they could had not gone with the original design. It would be fair to point this out always when talking about the differences. There were talks already here on the forum since the beggining, it was pointed that the final result could not be the same, since even the baseplate is not manufactured anymore. Without baseplate it is already an another story. Also the main reason of the change was made in favor of the optional ship integration into the build. I think even the IDEAS creator, Pablo Sanchez would have not dared to dream about such opportunity.

I honestly do not see how is the final version not the same in feeling than the original idea. Both are pirate camps with wrecked pirate ship components, animals, tropical flora. Only it was made more marketable with these Classic vibes, which I myself never ever dared to expect from Lego again. This was one of the most welcomed surprises since the Imperial Flagship, even bigger than that. What is exactly the problem here? Not enough reddish brown elements? The baseplate is not made anymore. There is a much more detailed ship wreckage, there are the animals, the shark, the cannons, the figures. And we got a new Barracuda as a pseudo-alternative build. Almost everything which is there in the original can be built by yourself with very generic parts. But what if you want to build a new pirate ship as well? When would TLG have released something like that again? In my eyes those specific ship parts and the amazing sails are much more of an advancement than some general room builds. The whole thing have became more like a true piratey patchwork built hideout. Also for how many years we Classic fans had been waiting for to get something specifically made for us too? I don't see how is this not an ultimate win situation. This is more like a negative attitude in my opinion and not the quality and perspective of the redesign. These should be the days to celebrate and be happy about this... not being disappointed.

Pretty sure it is just an Easter Egg. As far as we know Lego had a really hard time with Polynesian culture protectors because of using their historical names with Bionicle. I'm not sure what is their stand on Islanders. They've made a PotC set of the natives but that was a fictional tribe if I'm correct. Anyway as you've would probably guessed I'd be quite happy to see the Islander's return as well :- Classic-Pirates.com looking for blogger to write one blog post per week
I can take the one with the News Editor with only the Eurobrick Frontpage version if that is still needed. I don't really have the time to do work with an other website as well. I think the Clipper was a nice banking all the same. She's a fine ship. Also from my experience not having the biggest set just imprints eternal commitment and since it's Pirates, that is a good thing. Thinks about this way: I only have the Schooner, the Runner and the Imperial Flagship at the moment. You don't know how much I crave for a Clipper to finally be in my ever loving hands!- Resurrecting the Black Skull
- Could another LEGENDS-type Line be Successful?
Like an another Barracuda or Eldorado Fortress like revamp? Hell yeah. But Lego does not go blindly guessing around. The Pirate Bay what we get instead. Probably gonna be quite a big hit. I think the best we as a community can do to submit as much mindblowing pirate designs IDEAS as we can. AT LEAST if we're talking about the pirate theme. Altough with other themes I see the similar strategy to make any effect as well. Vote by buying. Vote by not buying.- Resurrecting the Black Skull
To my experiences warm soapy water was no trouble to the sails, but can depend on their state of course. If only the sun got them and had nothing of some sort of force impact, like tearing or exhaustive crumpling you'll be surprised how much the water will help. Obviously you shouldn't wash it like your socks, just put it under and smooth the soap over gently. Half a minute should be well enough. Then take the brush and go over it just as gently as well. This is what I've followed if you want visuals: Ahh, the Schooner is just da best set ever released, so good to see it getting so much attention by others as well. The more renovated the better for all humanity, but probably for the whole galaxy.- Resurrecting the Black Skull
Brush, soap, warm water in undefinable amounts, yes. Giving the brush for every piece by hand depends on the state of the set, but generally yeah, I do it while watching a movie. If the previous owner was an indoor smoker it's a must, because it can be sticky by the dust mixed with the constant cigarette smoke being around. With the sails you have to be extremely careful, altough this old type of cloths are quite heavy-duty the edges tend to start fraying, as we all know. I've read fellow members here talking about irnoning by putting the sails under cloth not to burn it. I've never dared to try it myself, because the water can iron it very well by itself and you can also put some books onto them. Have to say I still have some minor fold marks on the Runner's sails so maybe I'll give it a try, very very carefully. I'd suggest a just enough mildly warm temperature, no more.- Resurrecting the Black Skull
Nice thread @harry27! It seems The Schooner (or the Black Skull when it's roaming European waters), is truly such a legendary piece it's getting renovated all the time. I indulge to append the story of mine: This lost gem was stored on a sunny shelf for 25 years 'til I've bought it from the mother of its previous owner who - for some silly reason - wanted it off his hands. A couple of pieces went missing and the yellowing was so harsh one of the blue bandanas almost turned to turqoise (check first picture). Except these, the pieces were just MINT. The sails were like perfect, the figures still stiff without any scratches and fractured arms. And only for 160$. Sadly no box and instructions and the most valuable missing pieces were the two blue palm tree tops for stern lanterns. So I've started to wash things out as well: After reassembly the ship is ready to take back its former glory again on the battleseas: Ready to take action against rivalries: Battle is ON. The blue lantern pieces and some of the hoses are still missing (used black palm tops as substitution) and I've havent fixed the discloloring of white parts yet. To be honest it gives such a kind of patina, vintage-nostalgic feeling I like it this way very much as well. The figurehead was also absent so it is missing in most of the pictures. It is replaced now however. @harry27 I'm very interested of the finished version of yours! Is it already done or you're waiting for parts?- [MOC] Tintin Unicorn Ship
This is...... .... instant eyegasms. I still have my creased and re-released The Secret of the Unicorn & Red Rackham's Treasure comics from my childhood in Hungarian versions. Thanks, now I have to spend the day going over my old stuff! Gee. To IDEAS with this. Now. Nu. Maintenant. Jetzt. This is an order. Not debatable.- 26 replies

Hey Captain Moore, welcome to EB! Great find! Haha, we were just talking about Treasure Planet in the future pirate speculation thread a coupld of weeks ago. Now this is an exact example of some smart part usage. I'd be interested how Jayfa has managed to connect the balloon body part and the legs. Also the Morph implementation is funny, could be a bit more 'blob'-like but I guess it's not easy to catch in such a small scale.- Future LEGO Pirates Set Speculation
So true, I HATE that. Barbarossa's and other bodies would be super cool for if not for that flesh chest color. - Your First Pirate Set!
