GirchyGirchy replied to Romanista's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHooray, thanks a bunch! We appreciate your work on this. It really does look great. I wish I had the time to make one of these, I have something I'd love to make. Maybe next year.

[MOC] 1:8 Ford GT
GirchyGirchy replied to mihao's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThat's fantastic! Looking forward to the instructions. What % of the parts would one have if starting with a 42143 Daytona?

[MOC] Rat Rod (Alternative build for 42141)
GirchyGirchy replied to A Great Builder's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThat's pretty cool! I wouldn't call it a rat rod (they're normally rusty rods put together with questionable materials and skill), more of a hot rod that appears to be able to go offroad. It reminds me of the Stance|Works Model A hotrod with a lift kid. Very creative!

[MOC] Depeche Mode - Violator, LP Cover
That's super cool, nice work! It's one of my favorite albums as well, and I have always loved the album art. You should create one for the Enjoy the Silence single as well. :D

42143 - Ferrari Daytona SP3
GirchyGirchy replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingMy Majestic Tiger was missing several (can't remember if it was three or four) black 1x2 plates. Didn't bother emailing Lego, just grabbed some spares I had. It happens.

42143 - Ferrari Daytona SP3
GirchyGirchy replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingFor some reason it was left off from some price increase lists until after they'd gone up. I found it on one, but it was missing on several others. I went ahead and grabbed one when they had the 2X VIP Point days.

Interesting photos from LEGO store at Mall of America 1993
That's great! I was there around that time, maybe a year or two prior...picked up an 8856 Whirlwind Rescue that I still have. It was the first Lego store I'd been to and I loved it.

Your Best Technic Bargains
GirchyGirchy replied to Kumbbl's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingBest deal I've gotten was the 911 GT3 42056 for $200 USD, a few years ago from Craigslist. Well kept in the original box, along with extra pieces he'd ordered to Pimp it Up. I passed up being able to pick up a Bugatti 42083 for another $300, but the Porsche turned out to be a far better deal! Other than that, I paid $120 for the 911 RSR 42096 and $56 for the Ducati Panigale 42107, both on sale for new kits. Also paid $130 for an 8880 Super Car, but that was years ago when it came out.

42143 - Ferrari Daytona SP3
GirchyGirchy replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSheesh, it's not a Taschen Ferrari book! Why bother? Regardless, not nearly as irritating as scalpers. They ruin everything.

42143 - Ferrari Daytona SP3
GirchyGirchy replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingDid everyone see you can cash in VIP Points to win one of five of the first slipcase books? They're 50 pts/entry.

42143 - Ferrari Daytona SP3
GirchyGirchy replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingOK, I see what you mean. I know English isn't the primary language for many here, so I assumed your rotor meant something on the engine rather than the brake rotor. Adam after the build: I agree with you. These are Technic sets primarily...they're complex and just aren't as pretty and shiny as the Creator cars. And that's why I like them.

42143 - Ferrari Daytona SP3
GirchyGirchy replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIt sounds correct - an upshift means the engine rotates slower relative to the speed of the car, not faster. Think about driving your car...1st gear, the engine is spinning quickly but you're not moving much. Once it gets to 6th gear, it's turning slowly but you're moving along quickly. Try to downshift to 1st, and your engine will explode as the spinny bits try to turn 20k+RPM. This is assuming by rotor, you mean pistons. Regardless, yes, right is upshift and left is downshift.

42143 - Ferrari Daytona SP3
GirchyGirchy replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThose are my thoughts exactly...although I think it's becoming a little more blurred as time goes on and Technic sets look 'prettier', but generally, Technic vehicles are a compromise between looks and function. Creator/Creator Expert sets have zero functionality (other than opening panels) but look far more realistic. Now the supercars are bordering on Creator Expert levels of body accuracy and coverage, perhaps more fans of the Creator style are migrating over, and wondering what all of the funny colored gears and garbage are under the skin. To you and me, those are the fun parts, and we're happy with a generic 8880 beam body or the SP3 Daytona because they include inner workings that vaguely mimic a real vehicle. Buyers complaining about these functions might want to just stick with the more aesthetically pleasing Creator Experts...but dumbing Technic sets down would disappoint many fans, including myself.

42143 - Ferrari Daytona SP3
GirchyGirchy replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThis would make a very nice start to a 330 P4 MOC! The rear hips are nearly there already. I might need to pick up some old wheels to paint gold. I'm not a fan of the Ferrari SP3, but do like this set. It's quite tempting to pick up, if nothing else for future potential.
