  1. I have updated the first post with my final version. I sort of ran out of energy, so the update over the version posted on the 5th is just the round water plates.
  2. Regarding this rule - My 6235 Buried Treasure remake was posted two days earlier than that, and was started in late July I think. Does this mean I can not enter it as a small set? I think there are others who also started on small sets prior to the 6th.
  3. I actually considered this, but I think there are several scenarios that can be played out with this: The pirate hiding or retreiving the treasure chest. The pirate being shipwrecked or left by the other pirates to live the rest of his days on this tiny island (living on coconuts) The pirate fighting the monkey over the treasure (maybe too silly ) (At least it is no worse than the original set, I think) Regarding the golden coconuts - I think it is the other way round, that the pirates hid their treasure on the island with the golden coconuts to help them not forget the location.
  4. Thanks for the comments and suggestions! Regarding the sails, I have blue and red flags that I can use. I will not be able to get hold of tan flags or black flags in time. White flags in the current mold does not exist (I do have two old ones). What do you think of the below versions? The red and white is closest to the coloring of recent pirate ship sails I guess... I think the pirate needs the knife (it replaces the sabre he had in the original set), but there is a plate that I can change to a gold bar.
  5. Please note this is a Mini Set entry . I decided to build another entry, and felt like trying to make a small raft. So I built a remake of 6234. My build has exactly 50 pieces.
  6. Thanks for your comments! In my original design I had intended for the treasure to be buried lower into the island, thus I needed the additional height. However it did not really work well, and since I have scaled away the lower layer there is too little room to completely hide the chest. The overhang over the azure plates is the main reason I am going to change to round plates instead. The geometry will be the same as in my render a few posts up.
  7. I think I need to keep the modern monkey, so I have replaced the slope it is sitting on. The only remaining wet sand (dark tan) is where the pirate is digging. (Please ignore the azure wedge plates for now. I have ordered round ones, that will fit the island like in the rendered image.)
  8. Thanks for your suggestions! Here is the different monkeys I know of and have in my collection I used the monkey to the far left (same as in the Eldorado fortress set), and that one is the darker of the two new ones. Then there is the gorilla from 40530, but it cannot hold onto a weapon. Finally there is the classic monkey in Reddish brown or brown, but those are long out of production. Are there any other pirate-friendly monkeys that I am missing? As for the rocks, I agree that there are too many colors. I will look into that. (I think I had some idea about algae on some of the rocks, but even then it is a bit too much for a set.)
  9. With 50 pieces I could still build it like this. (Wrong monkey, I blame Stud.IO ). Thanks! I am short on good corner slopes (or actually wedges in this case), so I will need to wait for a Bricklink order first. I will investigate how best to make the base round. We will have to see what version that I stick with in the contest. If we do get a small set category I might go with the above, otherwise probably the bigger one. (I intend to build both of them anyways )
  10. A recreation of 6235 Buried treasure using 50 pieces - final version. 6235 (together with 6245) were the first pirate set I bought back in the day, so it is a bit nostalgic :) The pirate has come to dig up the treasure buried in 1989 maybe? I extended the sand into an island, and I imagined that the little green leafs from back then would have grown to a palm tree. There is still a monkey. Although a modern one, it still wields a sword...
  11. I will post at least one more entry, hopefully today. A small remake of an old set this time :)
  12. Again thanks. I have removed the jib sail, and have updated the initial post with some new pictures.
  13. Thanks again for all the good suggestions! I have narrowed down the white line and continued it around the entire hull, trying to get the bow a bit more curved in the process. There is now a figure head (and I decided to name the boat "The jolly skeleton" after it). I tried adding the jib sail from the Eldorado fortress' boat (basically the only official LEGO sail that could work). I am not sure how well it works, since it has a different color, but it may be realistic to think the pirates stole it from another ship. Please let me know if you think this is better than having no jib sail. Finally I turned the flag the right way, thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks! Regarding he hat: I tried building it in two different sizes, and this is the one that worked best (the other one was way too small instead).
