Impressive. I miss Johnny Bravo. I should look up clips sometime. You nailed the look. Clever hair technique.
  2. I mean, I am not against a Quidditch set, but I bought so many of those Cedric magazines... But sounds like another banner year for the theme so I can't wait.
  3. Okay, thank you all. You've been very helpful. This is a new area for me.
  4. Do I need to buy one of the hubs and a battery box, or can I just get a battery box?
  5. Thanks all. I'll do some more digging, but this gives me a bit of a starting point. I haven't been too familiar with this section of LEGO, so it is a learning curve for sure.
  6. A new AAA battery box on Bricklink is $50. No used available. The L-motor is $38 and M-motor is $31. No used there either. The items from the Lighthouse are $30 and $22. And that's not mentioning the investment from new Powered Up stuff from S@H, so this will take some investigating methinks.
  7. Okay thanks all. I'll have to investigate a bit more then. And yeah, not a bad idea to manual crank it and see how the gearing works and then worry about the motor after that. I just wanted to be able to walk away from the build at one of my LUG's shows and the kids could still see the stuff moving without me being behind it. Part of the fun is talking to people, but at our shows you don't have a lot of time with your build because you have to volunteer for other activities throughout the day to keep them moving.
  8. Very clever. Looks spot on. My dad has a 1927 Model T. You nailed the shape.
  9. I also thought they did the new broom specifically for the Firebolt so they could have his foot holders on there (even though as a minifigure he can't reach them). So I don't know if they were planning switching full time or just wanted it for that one set narrative. But that opens it up for other sets or reasons down the line if they did decide to keep using the newer style. Clearly being a HP fan for so long and having all of those brooms plus extras from multiple Quidditch sets, I don't picture myself ever switching over, unless I acquired enough in sets going forward to replace what was needed. But I'd never buy any secondhand.
  10. Okay thank you. I will have to look into that. It isn’t about fear of failure or anything like that. That’s how I build usually, try and try again if something doesn’t work out. My concern is I can’t just try with this since I’d have to make a large purchase/investment just to play around with the motors and seems silly to waste money on motors/hubs I may never use. I don’t have a huge LEGO budget these days so really have to focus my spending on the right areas. I need to purchase a lot of lights also for this build and that was already estimated to be higher than expected. So that’s all.
  11. Hello all. I am not frequenting this subforum very often. I don't usually build with technic or motors, but I would like to start trying to incorporate movement with my future builds. One build is Hogwarts staircases that move. But I'm not sure exactly how I should go about it just yet. I definitely don't know what motor or motors I should use to make them slowly move side to side. I have not used the Powered Up stuff yet. I had a train motor for the old Lone Ranger set that I used for a bit, but nothing else beyond that. After watching a lot of movement on LEGO Masters, it made me need to figure out how to build a variety of styles just to further my builds. I never plan on being on that show, but I'd like to become a better builder for my LUG and our shows we do. I know this isn't a lot of information and no one can tell me how to do it but is there a recommended list of items needed to make mild movements like that. I would like to make two staircases move, hopefully at different intervals from each other. But even if I can just figure out how to do one, I'll consider it a success. Thank you for any input you have or any advice. Have a good day!
  12. I just placed an order for both standard and best sellers and it went through. I'm in US. So who knows. But since they always pause it this time of year, it doesn't surprise me.

It matters based on where/who you are displaying it with. I know official sets use dark bley, but my LUG uses light bley for sidewalks and dark bley for streets. So I converted all of my sidewalks to light bley to match even though I haven't really displayed with them as much lately. So it depends on how you want it to look based on the surroundings.

Very clean. I like the straight lines used. The little scenes/details really add a lot to the MOC as a whole. But even without the main figures it stands alone pretty well.
  15. Since I'm trying to build a massive Hogwarts (like so many others) getting a staircase from official designer might be a good starting point to add/modify to. The wall portraits can be tricky depending on scale. Stickers would make sense and in this situation I don't mind as much. But MOC brick built versions have left a lot to be desired, so I guess I will wait and see. But I definitely am running out of sets to buy to get these GWP. Need a large purchase for June for the classic castle stuff and then July it looks like another large purchase but only HP products...hmm.
  16. I understand LEGO needs to release things to try to make people buy things, but Buckbeak being white doesn't make much sense. They have a bit of white on their chest, but otherwise they are really a light gray, so the old mold looks more accurate from that perspective. I don't know if I need a white version. And the figures only being slightly different... hmm.

I'm concerned of the floating head! giggle I understand what you were going for. Too bad there isn't a way to have shoulders sticking out. I've done just torso on top of the tile, but then how many people are that tall out of the water either. The house otherwise looks really good. Neat style. A white and black seems like strong colors for a house, but they work well together here. Well done.
  18. This is very impressive! I love that you did both interior and exterior. A lot of dedication.
  19. 3. Oky A lot of neat choices this year. Time slipped away for me to enter, but I guess that means I get to vote!
  20. Looking at my account, my VIP points have not been credited yet. Interesting. I guess we will see whenever that piece comes back in stock if they credit it. I honestly didn't think to check which means I'll likely forget to check again and maybe that's what LEGO counts on.
  21. Having just recently watched bits and pieces of this show with my daughter, it is neat to see someone building something related to it. So far so good! Hopefully you'll have time to get back to working on it.
  22. @timemail As much as I'd love to see 20 figures in this set, I can see LEGO giving us 10, maybe even fewer. They seem to be quite stingy on minifigures in most sets.
  23. Is anything on the mouse official LEGO? I haven't seen some of those pieces, but admittedly been out of the loop for medieval type pieces for a while. Otherwise, the shrubbery looks neat. The claw pieces work really well for needle leaves.
  24. @williejmI think Man-bat and the bats from Monster Fighters have noses also. And the Native figures from the mid 90s had noses. And I think the NBA figures had noses too...soo I don't know why they chose that for some figures and not others. But the eyes on the Native figures are also different if I recall correctly, so not sure what they were going for there. @DBlegonerd7In terms of all being deaf because no external ear...well they all have jaundice also since they are yellow, right? I guess I don't know what to say to that person that said that.. shrug
  25. My order from March 17 just shipped. Looking at my account, it still is listed as waiting for new stock, but when you click on it it reveals everything has shipped except for one part still needing new stock. I've never seen that before. I always thought they held the whole order until everything was ready. So, I'm assuming they'll ship out the part later once it comes in stock.
