Future Set Wishes and Speculation
thekoRngear replied to SheepEater's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingDunno if it was discussed I would really like to see a Hummer H2 with I dunno 4.5-5k pieces with a solid gearbox. A somewhat spiritual successor to the LRD.

Technic 2020 Set Discussion
thekoRngear replied to dimaks13's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThaks guys. I guess it will be comparatively a simple set. Um I dont know if it's right to discuss here- any new set for H2 that will be like the 42110? I mean something That sits between a UCS (bugatti/pirsche/lambo) and a 42096?

Technic 2020 Set Discussion
thekoRngear replied to dimaks13's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingWhoa!! It is surely then one of (if not) the most tightleaped lego sets ever. However I was able to see a Lego Technic FB group post (which was pulled off not so immediately) where the poster said it will have independent suspension and unfortunately the other point I forgot. Prolly a month ago. yeah. It better be damn good. Btw it is also a less discussed one right??

Technic 2020 Set Discussion
thekoRngear replied to dimaks13's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingSo I guess the concrete mixer (42112) has now beaten the 42115 in terms of tightleapness. Just that (not so) blurry set pic which I cannot remember the date it was posted lol.

42110 - Land Rover Defender
thekoRngear replied to 1gor's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIf you are talking about 20-tan bevel gears then yes, it is discussed somewhere in the Eurobricks forum. Cannot remember where the post is but he showed a photo of the bevel gears of his Land Rover and an older Technic set's ones. Turned out the newer (LRD) has less tapered (more thick) bevels than the ones found in that set. He replaced them with those (older ones) and experienced better results. In some other posts I saw some people were saying the bevel gears of some people's LRD were defective. Lego replaced them. My conclusion is Lego used newer Bevel gears which are thicker and hence do not yield smooth experience for the 42110. However, each of these factors are not solely responsible for the whole drivetrain to "fail". Incorrect alignment of u-joints, the u-joints themselves, the Red clutch gears being inefficient in higher gears (causing more friction) and also these culprit bevel gears- all them came into play

42110 - Land Rover Defender
thekoRngear replied to 1gor's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingThe steering is your own problem buddy. No known issues with steering. The drivetrain/gearbox is a flawed one. Lots of people have problem with it. The most pathetic thing is- even if you somehow manage to build it with all the gears shifting smooth and fine, after a range of 2 weeks to a month it will start clicking/cracking (confirmed by other EB members along with me). Yes, the suspension in my Landy's front is saggy, but not to a point what Bugatti faced. It's minor for me. But then again, seeing the slightly sagged front suspension won't make me feel too happy about it lol. I heard people attached two red springs (left and right side, 1 each) and altho' it improved the situation there is a tradeoff which I cannot remember now.

42110 - Land Rover Defender
thekoRngear replied to 1gor's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIs it possible for anyone to make the gearbox of the official 42110 model a less friction less tension less complex less gears and cogs 2-speed one? with Only the parts provided with? Has anybody already done it?

42110 - Land Rover Defender
thekoRngear replied to 1gor's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelingexactly. When I built my 42110 for the 4th (and the last) time ? I checked and saw at D/Hi 2nd gear it ran smoothly, the piston moved almost immediately. Since I was never able to make it able to run smoothly beyond 3rd gear (D/Hi/Lo) so I kept it as a display. However, I observed at the end of the 3rd week the gearbox cracked even in the first gear of D/Hi. In my previous builds I have observed the same phenomena. After the end of 2nd week the 1st/2nd gears would even crack. But I thought maybe it had something to do with my mistake or such. Since this is my first Lego technic set after prolly 18/20 years I did not know it was actually a phenomena until another 42110 set owner came and reported this in Eurobricks. I had had simple Technic sets (8225 etc.) when I was a child and had fun playing with them days after days ? I wonder Chiron and Porsche do the same??

42115 - Lamborghini Sian FKP 37
thekoRngear replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingLOL, it has nothing to do with the countdown although the point is valid that no one needs to wait until it hits June 1st. It was a comparison between two model's "revelation" timeline. We got a 9 sec vid teaser just a couple days ago where the wheel is mostly teased. Compared to that we'd seen the W16 engine and some bits just before a month for Chiron. I was just supporting the fact what the other poster was saying. I like this slow-paced revelation though. If a 1 or 1+ min long teaser video (like 42107 or 42111) or even something better is released in a short while, then it'll be actually better than that countdown. Because you are pretty much stuck with that pic and countdown timer for a month for the Bugatti. For Lambo there is no such thing ? so yeah, lets see

thekoRngear replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingLuckily I had a screenshot saved for 42083. It was on 1 May, 2018. Lego was (albeit not significantly) more revealing. Situation is different now though....

thekoRngear replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIn the 9 sec long Instagram vid we also heard the Lambo roaring. Hopefully it won't be replaced by clicky/cracky gearbox sound (that we have faced in most of our Defenders and few others including a few Bugatti sets) ?

42110 - Land Rover Defender
thekoRngear replied to 1gor's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingYes. I did, twice. I mentioned it in another thread. My gearbox worked fine upto D/HI/LO 3rd gears. Two weeks of playing with it’d gone nuts. Cracks even in the 1st/2nd gears. After my final build I have decided to keep it as a display model which has been almost a month now. Now I am worried after looking at your post. Previously I had thought it was a unique phenomena occuring to me.

42110 Land Rover pointers
thekoRngear replied to Brooxy85's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingIt is a design flaw and I actually do not blame the designer as Lego intended to have it as much authentic as the Original Landy. It is the set's inherent problem. Too much gears and hence, too much friction specially in high gears. Most of the people are facing it, and those who are not- actually a few. From Amazon's 42110 review page someone just demonstrated the whole thing in the most efficient way: From my observations which are mostly from Eurobricks forums and youtube, there are few things that can be done to "improve" the situation: 1. Make sure to leave TINY LITTLE GAP behind and between EACH gears. People reported after having it done they have seen buttery smooth gearing 2. slap some WD40 grease to the gears 3. Replace the newest 20 tooth bevel gears with the earlier versions as they are more tapered (less thick) 4. Replace the Red Clutch gears with old DBG clutch gears. The red ones are newer and improved but when it is about moving a vehicle smoothly at high gears they are nightmare. That is why people who create MOC they dont prefer Red clutches for high gears. 5. Pimp up the 42110 (jb70, rebrickable). It completely eliminates the u-joints. BTW, Aligning the u-joints is only part of the solution. Again, some people aligned the u-joints and are now having smooth gears, congrats to them. From my personal experience, I also have observed one more horrible thing: the gearbox is not stable. After my 3rd build the gearbox caused no cracking upto D/Hi/Lo 3rd gears, previously it was cracking-free just upto 2nd gear. However, after playing with it for around 2 weeks the gearbox started to crack even in the 2nd and 1st gears! However, I never had any issues running all the gears in the Reverse. And also, my vehicle's Engine pistons move almost immediately as it is pushed forward or backward. Update: I am not alone So, my advice would be, build it, enjoy while you building it. Pay attention to every detail. Then if you see the gearbox works okay up to D/Hi 2nd gear be happy as many other pointed it out you will be ended up having it as a display set which looks really gorgeous on my wardrobe. However, if you want more playability, just go for the jb70 pimp up my land rover mods. If you want to RC it, the original designer also has a youtube video showcasing how to motorize and RC it. There's no regret buying this set IMHO. It is my first set in some 18-20 years and I thoroughly enjoyed building the Defender.

thekoRngear replied to Ngoc Nguyen's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modelinghello, I do not have enough knowledge or expertise to poke and make arguments or even fight regarding the stuffs being discussed here. I just want to know one thing, we have seen in that Lambo teaser it was written, Build for real Do you think that itself is a clue as to what we can expect from this specific UCS series set? If we look at the first UCS car, it had a fake brake caliper. The 2nd one got a more realistic (looking) brake caliper. This year, may be they upped the game one notch? I have just put brake caliper as one of the perspectives. May be this time building experience will be emmm...more realistic. What reality can we expect there?

42110 - Land Rover Defender
thekoRngear replied to 1gor's post in a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingHi, although this is my first post here I actually have been lurking around this forum for around 6 years. I also bought a Lego Technic Defender with which I have been facing gear-cracking problem. Mind if you show me the bottom of your vehicle so that I can make the diffs reversed? Update: I have done the diffs reversing myself. And oh boy, what a progress! Now I can move my Land Rover forward without a single cracking. However, I am not as lucky as you are as the vehicle still cracks in the 4th when moved backwards (previous forwards). This fix is definitely a life saver. Also, it required minimal disassembling. The only thing is we have to move the vehicle backwards less (or pretend it never happens in the (now) backwards).
